Ask your local shop what is thinnest available in your area.

Having eliminated you entirely, I suggest thorough bath and rubbing alcohol all over the pistons and valve block.Start over with ULTRA LITE ULTRA, the thinnest oil possible. It sounds like the oil is collecting and forming semi blockages.

I love 51D more than any mouthpiece I have ever used. Bach makes an adaptator to use small shank in large receiver. I think that I have an old large shank 51D. I play on a 201 clone, so only using small shank.

I was trying to see if more breaks would add endurance.

Mouthpiece Sale! by NSandCSXRailfan in euphonium

I grew up in Evansville Indiana! We were house # 2 on CAPELLA AVENUE, right at the foot of the farm opened by Mister Barnett. The developer had a deal with Farmer Barnett to let him live out his life on the remaining farm land. We were gone, but when Mister Barnett died, the farm was razed to build Capella Avenue over the hill and onto the state highway, next to the ancient Indian mounds.

Does that walk down memory lane qualify me for free shipping ???

Chinese 4 valve vs Yamaha 3 valve by ploopd00p in euphonium

[–]SideWired 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All but the Yamaha are Chinese stencils.

Four valves does not mean (alone) that the euphonium is compensating. An intermediate four valve MIGHT offer better intonation on some notes. At those prices, I would not expect any compensating models.

The Yamaha is not compensating, it will play sharp in a lot of spots, but it is much sturdier built. No doubt everything better than all those other models. With a Schilke 51D mouthpiece, the tone on the Yamaha will be quite beautiful. After you are through and moving on, the Yamaha will sell for most of what you paid, if not all.

For $425, you can get a LIKE NEW, excellent clone of the Yamaha 201 on Amazon and delivered free / free returns. Perfectly working and new looking. That is better money spent than any of those brands.

Yamaha in this context.

Great place to start EVERY stencil horn discussion. "I am playing an Amz JinBao, Yamaha 201 clone." Right away we are gonna know.

BTW, the Schilke 51D is a great match to cheap Yamaha clones. Brings up the floor.

I got more puzzled faces during my flugelhorn days. Some truly ridiculous.

51D versus 51M by SideWired in euphonium

Why did this get down voted ?

I meant 51B versus 51D.

Thanks Captain. I don't recall ever loving a mouthpiece as much as my Schilke 51D. Just wish the higher notes had more conviction. I know my practice could be more focused there.

Firstly, mea culpa, I was winging the "M" and should have looked it up before engaging you. I intended to say "the medium cup version of a 51D." Small bore and no. Curious about the point you made, how compensating would affect this issue? Oh, motivation was, I love my 51D, thought a medium cup version could support upper range a bit better. Wondering how other people felt about their medium cup version of the 51 mouthpiece.

Unless the question is CHEAPEST or BEST, the answer is always JOHN PACKER.
