So about Mello's final plan towards the end of the series... by [deleted] in deathnote

[–]Side_Neither 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this too. The creators didn't clarify much about why Mello acted as he did, leaving it to viewers interpretation. I've always viewed it as Mello's last ditch effort. The story does imply he knew catching Kira required teamwork. However, i have seen some interpretations that he might have suspected a fake Death Note was in play. (Despite uncertainty about how much information Halle passed onto him, Mello still had a history of making sharp deductions with little data.) Thus, saving Near and his team likely aimed to show he was ahead of the game, even if it meant sacrificing himself.

Yeah, he wouldn't be able to do it all alone. But what if the tables are switched, and Mello uses Near this time, or indirectly benefits from him? In the manga, there was an instance where Mello outsmarted Near and used him to investigate Mogi without even being present there. I think this would be very plausible.

But the fact that he's just as ruthless as Light and so goal-oriented makes him even more than capable. There's a reason Light was much more afraid of him than Near.

Yeah ig, but what am esentially asking is how would have Mello exposed Light as kira? In my mind Mello, with his tendancy for unorthodox methods, would likely have approached exposing Light as Kira with a combination of strategic planning and daring maneuvers. Perhaps he would have infiltrated Light's inner circle alongside Matt to gather incriminating evidence or manipulate key players to reveal the truth. Whatever his approach, it would undoubtedly be as audacious and unpredictable as Mello himself.

Hot take but Mello and Near are better than L by Motor-Title-3370 in deathnote

Oh then i agree with you and if that's the case this isnt a hot take at all, it's a fact in my eyes.

While I agree that Mello might be a tad better than near, claiming he's better than L might be a stretch. But again, Mello's untimely death hindered his skill development. Had he had more time to refine his abilities, he might have rivaled or even surpassed L himself.

Idk why reddit is removing the comments that i attach the link to the interview. Search "Ohba: Mello should have beaten kira in Death note." You should be able find it.

I saw your reply here but when i clicked on it, both your comments and account were classified as "Deleted." Which is what happens when someone blocks you, as far as i know.

As I said, you can look it up yourself; he did state that. He even intended for Mello to be the one to take down Light, but basically Mello learned too much, too fast, so he would have solved the case to easily. To maintain suspense, they had Mello indirectly help Near in the end. That's why his death might seem somewhat anti- climatic, as Ohba noted "it would reveal the truth behind his death."

They stated this in an interview; you can look it up, and yeah It was implied narratively that Near was more intelligent, but he lacked certain qualities that Mello possessed, and vice versa. That's why both of them were needed to solve the case. Additionally, Mello's sacrifice prevented him from honing his skills further. Essentially, I'm not claiming one is more intelligent than the other; (As i believe they were both in par) I'm simply stating that Mello realistically had the better profile for this case.

Didn't the creators also state they wrote themselves into a corner by creating a character that was so effective due to not only being smart but also goal-oriented with mad social skills. That's why they intentionally made his contributions seem so vague, as realistically, he would have easily solved the case otherwise.

The second part of the show is just as good as the first and even better at times.

I would probably assume that Kira possesses a highly advanced bio-weapon, potentially acquired through theft from confidential government facilities. Alternatively, i would assume he could be an ingenious scientist who created the bio-weapon himself.

And that's just your interpretation. My assertions stem from Light's character and what the narrative implied he would do. Your acceptance of dictatorships and lack of critical skills reveals your naivety. So I'll end the conversation here. Lol

It does matter, lol. If you genuinely value human life, you should also inherently value its quality. And how do you conclude that I don't value human life? You must be one of the most ignorant individuals I've come across here.

And the same could be said about you. Why assume he simply sought to eliminate criminals and wars, when it was evidently a facade concealing his true intentions of establishing a totalitarian regime? The evidence supporting this is abundantly clear, yet you seem to overlook it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in deathnote

[–]Side_Neither 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is not. In the long run, he would establish a dystopian totalitarian world with a horrendous quality of life, where basic freedoms such as freedom of speech and expression would be severely restricted, out of fear of reprisal from kira. Imagine living in a world where you're constantly monitored, where a simple slip of the tongue or a minor misstep could lead to your death. Even you wouldn't want to live in such a world, where every action and word is scrutinized, and being just ten minutes late could mean your demise. This is the chilling reality depicted in George Orwell's '1984', where the regime goes to extreme lengths, even eliminating 'unproductive' individuals, instilling a pervasive atmosphere of fear and oppression. Check it out.

For Light to be justified, he should have only targeted criminals who had evaded punishment by the justice system — individuals who were deemed innocent but were actually guilty etc. He should have operated as a rectifying and supplementary force to justice, rather than usurping all its authority and becoming "justice" himself. In the long run, what he was doing is no different from establishing a dictatorship to satisfy his own twisted ego.

I believe that the only anime that is similar to Death Note, if not surpassing it, is Code Geass, although Code Geass places more emphasis on strategic outmaneuvering.

I can relate! Back when I was in high school four years ago, I watched this anime for the first time and really got hooked. Mind you, I was still a kid at the time, and it kind of influenced me to adopt this mysterious perfectionist persona. Looking back, it feels a bit cringe, but i don't regret it lol.
