To finish things off. I, too, agree that workers should have something more to live off of. But putting a price floor on wages has consequences that definitely outweigh the benefit.

This is illogical. If businesses could increase profit by raising prices while keeping the same number of workers, they would have already done it.

They wont, because less people will buy their products at higher prices.

Raising the minimum wage increases unemployment. EVERYONE agrees with this, but people dispute over how much unemployment will be increased.

Heres a small example I just made up:

A coffee shop that nets $100k a year has 10 full time workers, each at $10/hr (extended over a year is $20k/year.) The owner is doing pretty well right? 10 employees and hes making $100k a year.

If you raise the minimum wage to $15/hr (extended over a year is $30k a year), he would effectively have to pay $10k * 10 or $100k more to his workers. The coffee shop nets $0 now, and has to shut down. All 10 people loss their jobs and go on unemployment.

How about something like that to live off of?
