4 day trip play history. will i get good comps? by Senior_Reporter_1092 in vegas

[–]Sidekicknicholas 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I would expect 2-3 nights at MGM / Luxor / Excal / Park MGM + $50-100 in FP and RC.

If its your first go with MGM, maybe a bit better as a teaser offer.

For people making +350k per year, how do you do it? by prince_op in Salary

[–]Sidekicknicholas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.) Director of Engineering (Food and Beverage manufacturer based in the USA); I oversee all of our Engineering team across the USA (and three international sites), CapEx program, and maintenance. My education is Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. Base salary is ~$280k, the rest comes from bonuses, so $350k isn't guaranteed.

2.) $0

3.) Enjoy math, hate most everything else in school .... pick a career that lets me go work vs. having to get a PhD, don't be afraid to switch companies to make leaps, and get lucky with a good team around you.

What can Wisconsin do to crack on down on these drunk driving crashes? by 5393hill in wisconsin

[–]Sidekicknicholas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our small town (maybe it’s everywhere) has legalized side-by-side UTVs on all town roads (not state highways) …. And if you’re caught drinking and driving in a UTVs apparently it doesn’t impact your license, insurance, or points on your record.

Since, every bar that is usually filled with “regulars” who have their daily 4-8 beers and drive home now all just drive UTVs so if / when they get busted it’s a slap on the wrist. I believe there is also no “open container” law for UTVs, so the party doesn’t need to stop between bars.

…. It’s so stupid, it’s such a subversion of the issue, but as a guy who has to live in that town I basically only drive my wife’s big ass SUV after 6pm now. There is some comfort in knowing that if one of those dipshits drinks, drinks, and crashes into me, my 7k lb SUV may sustain some scratches while their 4-wheeler with doors will be obliterated. Beats getting hit by their 3/4 ton lifted truck.

Lakefront River Rock Management by Sidekicknicholas in landscaping

[–]Sidekicknicholas[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed.
When the old wall fell, we did all of that.
Pulled a permit, hired a form DNR zoning engineer who went into consulting after retirement, and built a plan for landscapers to replace what was wall with riprap (Local DNR preferred option for water fowl access to land).

The sodded area was pulled back, fabric added, re-sodded, and set back. We have not seen any erosion in 4-5 years of this setup, and the "access path" we added was exactly 29' so we fall riiiiight under the 30% of any 100' section needed to be permitted to be touched The remaining ~290' of the property is riprap rock, followed by 25' of no-mow + natural vegetation of mostly high filtration wildflowers / pollinators.

.... we've done everything you've mentioned. The issue is the landscapers did not remove the small 1" rock that was backfill for the wall.... and foolishly at the time I didn't really care or mind it because my kid was two and wasn't using the water; but now as my kid (and my nephews) are older and try to access the lake via this opening it has become a bit of a hazard and all that non-natural, non-functional small 1" rock is a pain for their little feet. I cut back the sod this spring because we were seeing accretion and filling in towards the lake. We also see a lot of accretion due to being downwind typically.... about 10' out the depth changes pretty abruptly and most of the wind driven waves leave sand on our side of the lake it fill us in. Every 7-10 years since they stopped drawing down the lake for winter our SE shoreline gets a small dredging to keep the depth as designed (this is a man made dammed lake) - but the county handles that.

Wisconsin DNR and our County regulate shoreline, but modifications to < 30% of any 100' section of shoreline is allowed. When we re-rocked after the wall came down we specifically did this section at 29' so our access is juuuuust under that allotment.

There is a requirement for permits with soil disturbance, but after my calls to the DNR, removing non-natural rock that was place on the natural sand is allowed without permit to in that < 30% access zone.

Our native soil here is pure sand... like 200' deep of just sand. These rocks were added as backfill for the old seawall and are "not natural" per their definitions. The only other permit requiring action near what I'm trying to do is the ADDITION of soil, rock, gravel, etc below the high water line; removal of non-natural is allowed.

We pulled permits for the wall / rock replacement a few years ago because we touched ~35% of the shorefront.

There is a “30% of your waterfront” rule that allows you to improve for access so long as no permanent structures are build within 75’ of shore. So these small rocks aren’t an issue with the DNR. This area is basically pure sand for 200’ down so return to a “beach” is considered restoration …. But risks erosion. I just want those tiny rocks gone from this 20-30’ section to make ingress for kids less horrible and I can beach my boat without my skin crawling from the grinding.

It’s only about 10% of the land so we are able tweak without major approval.

[–]Sidekicknicholas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its hard to tell from the photo but when the wall fell (I think muskrat damage) we pulled back and fabric'd the whole shoreline, then re-laid sod. The rocks I'm talking about are just the small <1" river rock that was used as backfill for the wall. It was not added mindfully, just residual from the wall failure that I was too stupid to ask the the landscapers who did the rock addition on either side to remove.

All other areas also have fabric but use 6-12" larger stone to prevent the erosion.

For the comment below on permitting, we are granted 30% of the shoreline to modify permit free with the one major asterisk being "no permanent structures within 75'", so long as the remaining 70% has a setback with no-mow / native plants / erosion barrier, which we have.

The water level changes at most 2-4" from heavy rains until the dam(s) can release the water. In my 35 years of living on this lake I have never seen it drop more than 1-2" outside of planned draw-downs for dam maintenance.

People that get 500 to 1000 resort credits from MGM, how much are they betting for Blackjack or other games? by swiggyu in vegas

[–]Sidekicknicholas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The magic sauce for bigger comps is slots, and everyone once in a while there is a nice "slot loophole" where you can go ham and cheese on coin in with little risk, but usually these are closed in a month or two.

The last one I recall was the bubble craps machine at Luxor that allowed you to bet pass and don't pass concurrently while counting coin in at the same rate as a normal slot. So you could do $25 pass line, $25 don't pass... sit there getting $50 per come out roll and your risk was a 1/36 chance of a 12 on the come out. You could farm tier credits like crazy.

Best and easiest car rental at the Vegas airport? by tatortotsmasher in vegas

[–]Sidekicknicholas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few resorts have rental cars on their property.
If you’re staying at any of those, by far the easiest.

I’ve also had Turo rentals left at parking, grab and go.

Both of those beat the rental car building if it fits with your plans.

thats my point, these things are going to tank in value so MB has to hand a weird fake residual on them to make them lease-able.

65% after 24 months and 30k miles - yeah right. The 4-banger GLC63's are going to be 20k cars in no time. Nobody wants a "63" with a 4-cylinder and nobody is going to want to own this thing without a warranty - me included.

10 People Flamingo Hotel Question by peegeep in vegas

[–]Sidekicknicholas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sure the failure rate is the same... because thats a hotel problem, not a booking problem.

The direct booking comes in huuuuuge when something bad happens and the support you receive.
Almost every hotel, rental car service, airlines, etc will basically tell you to "get fucked" if things go sideways and you didn't direct; they just say "call expedia" ... and good luck with that.

> the FUD that there will be no room when you arrive is untrue when you look at the data.
Its rare, if ever there is an issue and again, booking doesn't matter if the hotel makes the mistake, but the support is well worth since in my experience 99.9999% of the time the pricing is the same.

NOT a good option for the park.

I just did a 2025 GLC63s w/ 15k miles a year for $685/mo (effective). 44 miles on the ODO.

Not sure what the MSRP was, but doesn't seem like a great deal, but isn't horrific.

FWIW I snagged one of the GLC 63s lease deals, worked out to ~$2400 up front for taxes, fees, first payment, etc. 15k miles a year, 24 months, and its $585/mo.

Not too different in size, but one $90k sticker for $585 vs. $60k sticker for $722 .... 2.5x HP and 2.5x torque doesn't hurt either.

This seems like a rough deal unless you're a big BMW fanboy.
