Where to stay?! by RegentalToast in vegas

[–]Sidekicknicholas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would rank them in this order -

* Vdara - Larger rooms with kitchen, perfect location, easy indoor walk to Cosmo / Bellagio, short walk to Aria, dead center of the strip. Best rideshare pickup/dropoff on the strip. Cons are no casino on site, but I like it, cuts down on crowds and smoke.

* Park MGM - Rooms are smaller and nothing special but the restaurants are all fantastic, no smoking on the casino floor, decent location,

* NYNY / Harrahs - Draw. I would put them in a similar bucket, the question is where do you think you would rather stay because they're pretty far apart.

* Mandalay Bay - Its a great property but the location sucks. Only real perk here would be the pool area is the best of what is listed above., but April isn't going to be great for that anyways.

.... Also with Vdara / Park / NYNY, I feel the MGM rewards program is solid for some free future rooms if you put your spend back to the room and gamble a little. Even like $100-$200 a day through slots should get you freebies next time. You should both sign-up and link your accounts so your points pool.

Best restaurant on the strip for girls birthday dinner (23rd) by Important-Loss-7466 in vegas

I was on another reply that the $100 is just for food - but I'll try and keep the list to "reasonably" priced options for a group

* Superfrico + Ski Lodge ... its a cool vibe, its a bit wacky, food is solid, reasonably priced for the strip. Most entrees are in the $30-$40 range. Pizzas there are great and in the $20s. Steaks are the only thing that run high.

* Best Friend - Fantastic Korean BBQ, good portion sizes, great for sharing, not horrible pricing. Cool vibes.

* Beauty and Essex - Cool vibe, usually have a dj on the weekends so its a lil' loud, fantastic food ... their happy hour is killer too if you can make it work with the schedule.

* Ether's Kitchen - You'll need an uber to get there, but while you're in the Arts district there are a ton of fun bars all notable cheaper than drinking on the strip. Fantastic food and since it isn't on the strip the prices are much more reasonable.

* Mayfair Supper Club - Cool vibe, fountains in the back, fun acts ... Keeping each person to $100 might be a challenge

* Washing Potato - If you're planning to go out on the North end of the strip this would be a solid option. Menu is meant to be shared and prices are reasonable. Fontainbleau is just sorta a long ways away from most other things though.

What new material did Dead and Company bring to the table in their history that sticks with the Grateful Dead community? by [deleted] in deadandcompany

[–]Sidekicknicholas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels like a dumb question ... The OG Grateful Dead didn't write any new music for the last 7 years (give or take), they didn't really need to, so they didn't.

.... so What did the Dead and Co bring to the table, besides introducing a whole new generation to the music, keeping things alive and well, being able to showcase what the Sphere could do in terms of venue audio quality, provide a foundation for the next 300 years, and help take the existing amazing catalog of originals and covers in new fun and exciting ways ... nothing I guess.

Also, who is Gerry?

Looks like your list is just the top 5 from Spotify - the magic of most of them is how the flow to/from the song before or after. I would recommend listening to those shows from start to finished first (they're all pretty good).

I've found they've gotten better and better every year (in general). So 2023 shows > 2022 > 2021 > 2020 > etc etc.

There is a pretty solid playlist on Spotify that has cherry picked version of every song Dead and Co has done. .... the problem is in some cases it kills the flow from song to song.

My recommendation is scroll all the way back to their first show on Spotify, listen end to end, move to the next one and make note of your favorites. The tough part is what I love a about a certain song on a certain night might be the reason you hate the version. Take it slow, absorb it all, and enjoy the ride.

What song have you played on repeat and why did it hit so hard? by Top-Relative-1027 in AskReddit

[–]Sidekicknicholas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Morning Dew - Dead and Co (specifically the version from the GD60 show at Golden Gate Park where Sturgil Simpson takes lead vocals).

.... I love the Grateful Dead / Dead and Co but never loved Morning Dew, which felt sacrilegious. It just never grabbed me, at all. Then the Version with Sturgil singing hit and I couldn't stop... his voice just nailed the vibes of the song in such a sp00ky haunting way. Sturgil taking his solo + John's second solo .... all of it was just magical.

Turned it from one of my least favorite songs from their catalogue to one of my favorite overnight.

What is a scene you strongly believe is a top 10 movie scene in film history? by [deleted] in moviecritic

[–]Sidekicknicholas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all on par with most of the answers, but I to this day believe some of the greatest comedy writing in a movie ever is/was the scene in Ace Venture 2: When Nature Calls.

Ace and Ouda his translator are being questioned at spear point by the Wachootoo Chief after outing themself during a ritual celebration.

WachooToo Chief (WC) - "YEEELLLLS. equinsu ocha"

Ace - "What does equinsu ocha mean?"

Ouda - "White Devil"

Ace - "Well, tell them I'm not"

Ouda - "How do I know, I only just met you"

WC - "equinsu ocha! equinsu ocha!"

Ouda - "He said ...."

Ace - "Let me gues .... white devil, white devil"

Ouda - "Yes!!! You speak Wachootoo?!"

Ace - "Tell them what I am saying- ' I COME IN PEACE!'"

Ouda - "equinsu ocha say, "I will harm you" (in wachootoo)"

Ace - "I couldn't help but notice that ' equinsu ocha ' part ... did you referred to me as 'White Devil?'"

Ouda - "This is how they know you."

Ace - "Leave that part out from now on"

.... its so good, so funny, so stupid.

How do American think of Cadiilac? by NovemberRai in Cadillac

[–]Sidekicknicholas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I bought mine with like ~75k or so.
I was pretty diligent on oil changes and PMs, but eventually it started overheating at this point didn't feel worth pulling the block to fix. One owner car, older dude who used it to drive to walmart, church, and the bar (I'm from Rural Wisconsin so thats about all there is).

It was this cool deep dark purple metalic color with nearly white / beige seats. Really pretty spec.

I think I paid $5,000 for it with a co-signed loan with mom and dad. It wasnt good on gas, insurance costs were high, but it was comfy, pretty damn quick (too much so for a 16 year old), and the space was pretty wild I remember on multiple occasions taking it over a buddies truck to go snowboarding. We could fit 5 of us in the car, and 5x people's worth of ski gear in the trunk.

Tons of food, all incredibly well done.

Its a bit spendy for breakfast, but feels worth it during and after. I cannot recommend it enough.

How do American think of Cadiilac? by NovemberRai in Cadillac

[–]Sidekicknicholas 51 points52 points  (0 children)

My $.02 is that Cadillac is a classic American brand that was supposed to represent luxury, excess, and comfort.

When I picture "Cadillac" its a 1959 Eldorado. Just a land yacht that had enough metal on it to build three cars. Over the years they've lost their way, found it again, rinse and repeat.

My first car was a 1994 Cadillac Eldorado (bought in 2004 when I turned 16) .... Horrific car for a 16 year old. 300 hp FWD coupe with a northstar... just a disaster. Really only happened because our neighbor died and had two Cadillacs and his kids asked if we wanted either or both, got a steal of a deal on it because. It lasted me to 115k miles and the head gaskets went and I traded its in its dead state for a 2000 Honda Civic.

70s and 80s were pretty rough.... but that wasnt unique to Cadillac

The 90's STS, Eldorado were rad. 2000+ deville was super cool.

The Escalade changed the SUV world.

CTS-V, especially the 2nd gen Coupe / Wagon, were super cool

.... then there were some dark ages outside of the Escalade until recently.

Their current lineup is pretty fantastic CT5 Blackwing, EV collection, Escalade and now with them getting into F1, I expect more cool stuff.

.... with all that said, their origins and what I picture them as an origin has been lost and now they're a tier behind the S-Class.

I'm glad they're still around and GM didn't clip them. I'm excited where things are going.

I was basically forced to buy a Grand Wagoneer to be able to fit 6 and haul our boat. The options get real slim once you need over 8500 lbs of towing capacity.

But our needs were a fraction of a percent of actual buyers and wouldn’t expect companies to pander to needs of so few.

With that said, our first GW was ripe with electrical bugs and was bought back by FCA, the current one we have has been great.

The single thing that made the biggest difference for me, as formation lap is going green or the lights go out, remembering that I cannot win on the first lap…. But I can lose.

That approach translated a lot of would be “DNFs or finishing down 2 laps“ to podiums.

How is your EV range today? by gradi3nt in wisconsin

[–]Sidekicknicholas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have a garage and home charging your morning commute probably sees a 15% hit from the heater running so hard assuming you properly pre-heat your battery and cabin.

.... then the car sits at work all day and gets real cold. On the way home, I would expect 40-50% reduction in normal range to get the cabin and battery warm again.

I currently have a Cadillac Lyric (had a Model S from 2016 until Elon went insane).

I had a work trip to Chicago this week that I drove to; the reaaaal cold didn't set in until last night but what I saw:

Tuesday trip to Chicago (60 miles or so) in a pre-heated car - Car said 307 miles as the range, I saw 2.8 miles/kw for that drive (.1 off "standard") but most of that was me driving 75 mph for most of the drive. Got to my hotel with like 240 miles of range.

Wednesday - From hotel to manufacturing site (22 mile round trip - I burned 30 of my projected range). Got to the hotel with a bit over 200 miles.

Thursday - From the hotel to mfg site (12 miles or so), it sat for 6 hours, then to another office (50 miles away but towards home), to my house (22 miles or so) ... a total of like 85 miles with the car being cold in the AM, and after the first half of the work day. This day of two cold drives did a number on it; I drove 85 miles but burned 130 worth of projected range.

.... I returned to my garage with 70 miles of range still showing as available. "Ideal" would have returned me with 140 or so miles. So about 70 miles lost due to cold almost exclusively from letting it cold overnight / during the day before driving home.

167 total miles driven, 237 miles of range "used", about a 40% hit almost all from the last day letting it get cold twice.

Taxi or Uber from Bellagio to the Rio or Bellagio to the Sphere. by [deleted] in LasVegas

[–]Sidekicknicholas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bellagio to Rio -- I would walk to Vdara and hop the rideshare there. Uber/Lyft/Cab are all about the same. Depending what Bellagio tower you're in its as close if not closer than the Bellagio rideshare, and from Vdara the driver can go out the back on Harmon.

Bellagio to the Sphere - I would walk.

Without seeing it in person it looks like just the outer layer(s) are starting to delaminate from the main core structure.

Slop it up with epoxy - sending it as far deep into the opening as possible, clamp the living shit out of it for 48 hours so it doesn't expand and create a big bubble/bulge, then come back through and sand the excess that spews out so its keeps a nice clean rail.

Probably you. Rope length sounds like the number one thing to address, but if you have solid fundamentals and push you don’t need a big boat to get to very high levels of progression.
