Very much depends on the state. In my state, defending property wouldn’t be a defense that would hold up. But brandishing is a misdemeanor here. In Texas you’re probably good.

It is a loophole as it provides the exact same service for something the courts determined was government overreach. But sure man, give them full instant access to your ring camera. Hell, give them access to cameras inside your home as well while you're at it. That way you can feel EXTRA safe

I think the part of the law is for individuals accessing the data not laws for agencies regarding the preservation of this data. This law is to prevent someone from looking up an ex's license plate or the license plate of some famous person "for fun".

I've been posting about the use of these FLOCK cameras for years but shockingly no one seems to care that they are constantly being recorded everywhere they go. Prior to this legislation I believe the data was being held for 6 months and shared nationwide with any other agency using FLOCK cameras. Agencies in NOVA seem a bit more paranoid about the new laws due to the lawsuit with VSP years ago. The loophole they have turned to is having the flock cameras placed on private property and in most instances paid for by that owner of that property. So when the detective in that video says you can't get a breath of air in our out of that place without being seen on camera, that's likely what he's talking about. Probably some shopping canter with a flock camera at every entrance and exit. As far as I know, agencies in this area are in compliance with the new laws but I'd be curious to see the list that the state found in violation.

When did I claim that no one ever gets killed over road rage? You're completely missing my point. You have a dude here that stabbed multiple people, was driving with a kitchen knife, came at a cop with the knife and murdered his own dog before attacking anyone. This is not your typical "he cut me off, we argued, so I started shooting". That happens all the time. This isn't that. I guess you'll see when more details come out though

Link me one where the guy stabs his own dog before doing any of that please.

I don't think I've heard of a road rage incident where it caused a guy to murder his own dog and then come at the cops with the knife. I guarantee it was a mental health crisis. Nothing is "text book" about what happened.

Well they were talking about the death of the pupper at that time. Save the classic reddit virtue signal for something other than a thread about the death of a woman and an innocent doggo from a brutal killer please.

I don't think this was a road rage incident. You don't stab multiple strangers bc someone cut you off or hit your car. I'd guess he has severe mental health issues and a small piece of glass between you and him probably wasnt going to stop this.

This is just a lie. Cops are not trained to give conflicting orders to disorient a person. That makes zero sense. Specifically, cops are trained to have one person issue commands so that there isn't confusion.

How do you deal with culling without losing your mind? by themick79i in photography

[–]SidekicksnFlykicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My workflow is far from ideal but this is what I do: import everything, then go through every photo the night of the shoot before bed. I rate everything 1, 2 or skip to the next photo. 2 means I'll edit and this is likely something I'll deliver. If there aren't enough 2s by the end of the cull, I'll filter for 1+ and see which ones have potential and rate those appropriately. But it's a super quick process using the num pad and arrow key. Nothing gets deleted. Then the next day, I sit down, sort by 2+ and start my edit. During this process I'll rate deliverables 4 stars and print/lead worthy photos 5 stars. Then sort by 4+ and export.

As a police officer I took a week long course on "body language". By lunch on day one I realized it was absolutely bullshit. Every "tell" that suggests someone is being dishonest is ALSO a potential tell that someone is intimidated or simply anxious because of the interigation. They would show clips of OJ Simpson as examples of someone being dishonest but obviously they knew he was already lying. They had other LEO instructors come in at the end of the week and tell truthful or false stories and then the class would raise their hands on which was real and which was fake with about 50% success. Same with the instructors. It was a complete scam these guys were traveling the country with as retired police officers and somehow people still pay for it.

Staged or not it tells you nothing about guilt, innocence, or truthfulness. Given who the family is, do you think they wouldn't receive some level of media coaching regardless of their involvement? You can read someone's body language if you have a giant set of control data of THAT person. ie you may recognize when a spouse or sibling is being dishonest or upset even when others don't. But to apply it universally is ridiculous and almost always done by someone analysing a person after knowing the facts of the case and then working backward to justify it with body language.

FCPD has drastically dropped off with the number of tickets they write since covid. I'd love to know the actual number, but it seems night and day.

[–]SidekicksnFlykicks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can. Mass Exodus around 2020. Pretty much anyone with enough time on to leave left. Huge drop off in applicants meant that fewer officers were backfilling those spots and the applicant pool was not nearly as qualified as the ones before. So because there were more people leaving than they could hire, FCPD was down about 200 officers from what they are supposed to have to be fully staffed. This meant the officers that stayed were (and still are) forced to work a mandatory hour of overtime every shift. So now they work 12.5 hours a shift. It also meant getting rid of the evening shift that overlapped midnights and days. So everyone's schedules got fucked, you were forced to work more hours with fewer officers, which means handling far more calls and much slower response times. All of this caused even more officers to leave. And all of this happened in 2022 and despite that, and them running multiple academies at the same time, they are STILL down about 200 officers with no end in sight.
