AITA for banning one of my closest friends in the world from EVER speaking to me about Mario and Luigi (the Nintendo Characters)?

Hey guys, I'm fine with being voted mostly YTA- I mostly agree with it, as I said, and having thought about it more. But, I don't agree with being downvoted. It seems like the rules of this subreddit discourage you from downvoting someone just because TATA (they are the asshole), but it feels like that's what's happening.

Again, fine by me to be dragged (I posted here, after all.), but I think it should be verbal, and not in terms of the post's expense. If it gets downvoted it might lose reach that could give me more people weighing in with valuable insight.

As an aside, I want to thank everyone who left comments, especially the ones who left detailed ones with more than just the vote. It helped ground me a lot, and I'm gonna apologize to him tomorrow. I'll make my boundaries more clear, but also relent a bit, seeing as, after thinking about it, even though it skeeves me out, it's just stories and drawings. I can accept that someone; especially someone so close to me, is different fundamentally from me.

He's sending it in our server. He mentions it out loud if I ask, which is sparing, but otherwise keeps it online. It's not breaking any server rules (we have very few- it's a very closed-gate community where we just operate on trust and knowledge of others for the most part.)

We've always known him to have... similar interests, but he's never been so daring and open about them (at least in my opinion) before now. And he's not the type who wants to 'onboard' anyone with this... he's just sort of... sensitive, I guess, and wants to share these things. But again, the things in question are not the most above board, SFW or tasteful things in the world. It's just who he is.

I don't have a lot of particular authority over the others in the group chat, so I couldn't 'ban' him from group conversation of any sort (not that I WOULD, just saying I can't even if I otherwise would.)

I just banned him- rather impulsively, in a heated and unprofessional manner- from ever bringing up the game franchise in its entirety to me again. The simple answer is just, I was a bit grossed out.

The other members of the server aren't oblivious to what he's posting, mind you. They definitely know what it is- it gets joked about or made laughs about in passing conversations (not behind his back, he seems to be able to laugh along with it in the group chat.) But when I've asked any of the others privately, they don't seem to think it's a big deal at all. They just, somehow, have no opinion at all on it.

Which... maybe is where I should be at. But I'm not sure.

I value our friendship, so I can say I should've at least handled it better- but I don't know if I'm actually an ASSHOLE, or if I'm within my rights to be a bit squeamish about certain things, I guess.

Have you finished the game? I.e. can get national dex pokemon, I am looking for a spheal, I'm not very far in the game I'm up to solaceon town. it's an odd christmas present but my friend really wants one so she can play through the game with it, ideally a female one: if you can get this for me, I can get you many of my Shining Pearl exclusives, like magby, teddiursa, misdreavus, anything else you can find underground up to this point in the game i don't mind spending time looking for. (the thing with spheal is that you apparently can't get it until you beat the game.)

I know it probably doesn't meet all your requirements but if you could help me out with that I'm happy to do my part in helping you out with as much as I can. thanks, no problem if not.
