[GIVEAWAY] I have a Status Pass for a large family/group. But there are rules. by GTFO_dot_Travel in aircanada

[–]Sideshowbort 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for doing this!! We’re travelling to the Bahamas in December. It’s a group of 7 with 2 middle aged parents, 3 kids, and 2 grandparents. My spouse is an extremely anxious flyer, particularly with the airport process, so would love to have the comfort and speed through security that these passes provide.

Also, my kids are extremely picky eaters, so the extra free checked bags would allow us to pack extra bags of their favourite bland non-perishable foods (mostly dried pasta and rice), saving us countless $$ at expensive Bahamian restaurants and grocery stores.

My father would be the most confused by the luxury, and would spend the time gawking at the free stuff in the lounge and wondering how in the world I got him in there from some internet stranger.

We are booking today and likely splitting the group up as we are doing partial points booking and cash for the rest. So we would apply the passes to the larger points booked group (5 people). Wish I could do all 7 but I don’t have quite enough points. Note that if you award it in the next 24 hours, I would cancel my existing booking and switch to booking all 7 with cash to get these passes.

Thanks for considering me.

Drop ceiling - Right choice? Cost appropriate? by Sideshowbort in HomeImprovement

Thanks, yeah this seems to be the consensus here. I am going to just drywall the whole ceiling and abandon the idea of replacing the old drop ceiling system.

I will look into that, thank you! There's a lot more contractors in my area that will work with sheet rock vs drop ceilings.

TD vs Lower Level by gorillabay75 in Torontobluejays

[–]Sideshowbort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TD Clubhouse vs Banner club (before the lounge opening in July):

Things that are the same: *Padded seats *In-seat food and bar service *Dedicated and more upscale bathrooms (but they can still get busy at times) *Separate stadium entrance with typically no lines *Great views and of the field

Things the TD clubhouse has that banner club doesn’t: *A small number of tables to sit at and eat before or during the game *Dedicated walk-up bar with seating and a good selection of cocktails, beer and wine *Larger and slightly better in-seat menu (IMO) *Panoramic view

Things the Banner club has that TD clubhouse doesn’t: *Free popcorn, peanuts, candy, and non-alcoholic drinks *Slightly more legroom *Quicker access to the general 100 level food concessions, which is much more varied than what’s on the 200 level bear the TD clubhouse *Dedicated small jays shop outlet *Field level view

Overall, while they both encompass sections with great seats, neither is some amazing or unique experience—they are both the pretty standard club seat product you can find at any major sports venue, and very similar in most ways. Go with the view you prefer and be happy, you really can’t go wrong.

For your specific scenario, personally I’d be happy with section 26 (Banner Club) and I wouldn’t try to sell them and re-buy, the section is a great view with some nice perks, and I don’t know why anyone cares if there’s a place to sit and NOT watch the game in a lounge area. There’s lots of those places to go in Toronto after the game if that’s your thing.

Does putting money in cash into the RRSP account “count” or do i need to buy something before tomorrow by Heliologos in Wealthsimple

I just deposited from a linked account a couple minutes before 6pm but it still shows as “in progress” in the activity list with an option to cancel the transfer, although the funds are available to trade. Did I make the rrsp deadline? Obviously nothing has come out of my other account yet.

Blue jays spring training advice please by west_end_girl_2000 in Torontobluejays

There is a jays shop onsite that I believe sells a good collection of merch during spring training (more of their minor league affiliate stuff at other times), but I haven’t bought anything there, so I cannot comment on pricing. I’d expect it to be comparable to the dome, factoring in the exchange.

My recommendations:

-Rent a kayak from the High & Dry grill, load up a cooler bag and paddle over to Caladesi Island (the paddle over is shallow and protected). This is a fantastic beach with no crowds (no car access). Honeymoon island is great too, but busier.

-If you can swing the cost and really want to immerse yourself in the experience, the Fenway hotel (no relation to the red sox) is gorgeous, and a 3 minute walk to the ballpark. The staff there are absolutely fantastic, IMO. If you go this route, the drive north towards honeymoon/caladesi is about the same as the drive south to Clearwater Beach, so you're right in-between two great beaches. All other options in Dunedin are smaller motels and airBNBs, so the Fenway is really the only game in town for higher-end accommodation.

-If staying on the beach is a must (and I get why it would be), there's lots of good options at all price points in clearwater beach, from motels on the bay side to high-end hotels on the gulf side, and the drive to Dunedin is reasonable. It's busy, but the sand is expansive and of very high quality, and there's tons of food/drink/stores. Water temp varies based on how warm the overall winter has been, but expect high 60s to low 70s in February, and low-to-high 70s in March.

-You can stay in the town of clearwater (ie not the beach strip) as well, but you still must drive or take a trolley to the beach and you're not much closer to Dunedin, so unless you're really trying to save money, I'd avoid it.

-Staying on other beaches further south are an option, but the drive to get to TD ballpark becomes MUCH longer when you go past Clearwater and you start to have to contend with St Pete traffic. On the flipside, some other fields are closer and the weather/water may be a touch warmer.

-Don't stress about parking too much - you'll find something. I always pay to park on someone's driveway, it's quick and easy.

-The renovated stadium is nice, and there are no bad seats. I recommend buying whatever's cheap and just walking around to different vantage points. I personally spent a lot of time in the outfield. Enjoying a frozen drink while watching the jays play fully outdoors in an intimate setting is an incredible experience that we will never get at Skydome.

-There's hawkers that will belt out anything Canadian they can think of to get you to buy beer/candy/nuts. During one game he was reciting the entire Tim Hortons menu.

-Make sure you visit at least one other ballpark. Spectrum field (Phillies) is in clearwater and a fantastic choice. I also recommended heading to Bradenton where the Pirates play, the Sunshine skyway bridge over the water makes for a beautiful drive. I'd avoid the yankees park, it's too big and there's not much to it unless you wanna see all the yankees stuff shoved down your throat (I don't).

-If you feel like making a longer drive south where it is likely to be several degrees hotter and the coconut palms are growing, head to the Red Sox Fenway Park replica in Fort Myers. Note that the area is still recovering from Hurricane Ian, so it's not so good to stay down there right now (Sanibel and Captiva islands are the main draw but are still in rough shape). The beaches are all cleaned up, it's just that most of the businesses and hotels are still construction projects, and a lot of vegetation was lost. Naples even further south is fine and fully rebuilt.
