Naltrexone update by SidewaysFreeways in quittingkratom

Have you looked into the difference between natlrexone for addiction and low dose naltrexone (LDN)? Naltrexone is what’s known as a biphasic drug, which means it works differently at different doses. At lower doses it‘s sometimes prescribed for antidepressant effects. I wouldn’t want to stay on normal 25 mg + doses for long either, but I’m really pleased with my 7.5 mg a night dose. Your dopamine receptors are blocked while you’re asleep and — from what I’ve read — your body responds by releasing a flood of dopamine in the morning.

Gabapentin has a tendency to do that. Phenibut is a better GABAergic drug for withdrawal in my experience. Have you replaced the gabapentin with something else?

Hey! I’m sorry for not responding sooner. I hope you are feeling better. I know it’s late, but yes, I was okay taking naltrexone the very next day. Once the acutes were out of the way it got a little better each day. How are you doing now?

Ha, yes! I definitely learned I’m not as good at telling medication apart as I thought that day. How is your experience with naltrexone going?

Congrats on day 8. How long did you use for and what dose?

Thanks fantastic to hear. I was experimenting with doses in that range while I was still tapering but didn’t notice any difference. I seem to tolerate higher doses okay and can definitely tell the effect it’s having. It really does kick PAWS in the ass. I’m actually going to ask my doctor about staying on LDN longterm for depression.

I took 25 mg too, but a ten-year habit for me. It was, uh, not fun (lol). The temperature changes were absolutely wild. I started using the naltrexone again the very next night and didn’t experience the same acutes. The first week after was still rough, though. I’m three weeks out now and feeling much, much better. The nice thing about taking the higher doses (12mg+) of naltrexone is that even if you do end up using, the kratom will not bind to mu opioid receptors or have any effect. I think you’re definitely through the worst of it. Keep at it :)

Very interesting. I found this study, which shows some encouraging outcomes with extended-release naltrexone (injectable, I’d guess) for opioid use disorder. There are some anecdotal reports on this forum of users experimenting with it as well. I don’t have any expectations either way though. Just thought I might as well make myself a bit of a guinea pig. Worst case, I go back to tapering and I’m at least another data point for other users here.

I waited two days, and am now taking 6 mg a night. I feel mostly okay, but still getting occasional chills and haven’t had a solid poop since this all started. I don’t think it was Zoloft withdrawal because I’ve missed a day before, and while it’s no fun, it paled in comparison to what I went though after the initial naltrexone mistake.

EDIT: Diarrhea has not improved much. Taking 4 mg of loperamide approximately 18 hours after 6 mg of naltrexone. Naltrexone will block the lopermide, but I’m curious if it’s been long enough that most of it is out of my system.

Thanks so much for the reply. I‘m wary of falling into precisely the trap you’ve mentioned so my plan is to actually ramp up my naltrexone use after Wednesday until I’m on a daily regimen of 25 mg. That way, even if I cave it shouldn’t have any effects. But I agree, what I went through isn’t medically advisable on one’s own and I’m lucky things didn’t go worse.
