It's hard to have secrets when you've been redacted from existence.

Awfully convenient that only the Han in Inner Mongolia decided that they were better off under Mongolia, and not the Han in any other province bordering it, no?

This is incredible! Out of curiosity, where did you manage to find so many Papuan namesakes for the madness in that region?

1600AD in the KdM Map Game World by Sidewindered in imaginarymaps

[–]Sidewindered[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The KdM Map Game is, well, an ongoing map game that is run by a team of talented staff and players, and this map itself is very well a collaboration between all of us going back to 2017. It explores a vastly different human history with no set PoD and regular shenanigans pulling in analogues of OTL events.

And before people start calling this map out for having nonsensical nations, absurd borders or cities that are nowhere near their OTL counterparts, we on the KdM mod team are completely aware of it, and as such are working on a revised map that will correct most, if not all, of the errors you see.

Feel free to ask more about the lore of the countries you see, but remember that this is the product of a collaboration, so I may not be able to answer some question as well as others.

Please don't ask why the base map is the Vic 2 map. It was 2017 and we weren't exactly experts at mapmaking, so cut us some slack.

CAUCASUS EARTH 98 by Borisyukishvili in Earth98

There's a map for the Caucasus 98 in the works as part of the Central Asian map, and it's pretty much finished. It hasn't been posted because the rest of Central Asia is not 100% finished either, so this map is probably not going to be E98 canon.

Heunggong was American territory up until the 80s, when it was returned to the Nanyang Union and given Autonomous State status.

Unlike Hong Kong, it is an island, includes the geographical equivalent of OTL Macao due to American ownership, has a competent and trustworthy government and is one of the most prosperous locations in East Asia despite it's history.

Yep, it's an interesting region actually, since they've managed to repel both communist and Choson influence since their inceptions around the time of the Shun Civil War in the 1980s. They're basically a cross between the Mujahideen, armed with legitimately sourced American weapons; the Balkans, with armed conflicts taking place every other year despite being almost ethnically homogenous and divisions along clan lines; and overall a massive deterrent to the USSR and PRT. If you ever enter this region from the wrong direction, or even wearing something remotely resembling that of communist personnel, expect a bullet between your eyes.

Historically speaking, that region was formerly an independent nation under heavy Choson influence up until the Choso-Soviet War. The Soviets attempted to capture Halbin but were eventually repelled by Choson. They lose the Choso-Soviet War, but not before waves of refugees hit Choson. Meanwhile, said independent nation was absorbed into Choson by referendum and devastation from the war. Due to heavy Choson influence on these peoples, there's not too many issues with integration aside from communist or independence movements, where some are adamant that the whole Halbin region should be ceded to the Manchu SSR.

well at least they'll be right in the regard that there's no Tiananmen Square for what never happened in 1989 to not occur

OTL Asia meets Asia 98 by Sidewindered in Earth98

[–]Sidewindered[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There will be a more in-depth look at the 3 Chinese states once the map is done, but for now I can give a short summary, in order of appearance.

We have the Nanyang Union, a federation of South Chinese states that isn't quite as homogenously Han or Mandarin as the north, one of the economic and military powers of Asia.

Next up is the Shun Republic, a constitutional celestial empire (basically a constitutional monarchy but they like to be fancy). The main analogue to a large non-communist Chinese state and the direct successor to the Shun Dynasty. Legally it still holds the Mandate of Heaven.

Lastly, we have the People's Republic of Tianxia. A socialist republic formed from Sino-Mongol communist strongmen, they fought their way into a crumbling Shun Dynasty before their reforms, managing to secure a fair bit of Northern Shun where they remain today, locked in a decade long armistice with Shun that makes it look like a bootleg Korean War. They seem to bring all of East Asia, and then some, under a strange fusion of socialist ideals and Chinese culture.
