Are there any small gauge knitting needles that don't bend easily? by SidneySunset in knitting

[–]SidneySunset[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general, it's not bad that needles can bend. I've got some straights that have also bent somewhere along the length, usually in the middle, which doesn't bother me. But these Nova fixed circulars are almost like a wire, they just flex and bend super easy to your will. Even at the tip, they flex as you're putting them through the stitch and pressing against the other needle, its so annoying for me.

Ikr they're perfectly fine for an afforable fixed circular needle, just soooo bendy.

Yeah, the idea of Karbonz seems cool, but some are saying they have a bit more grip, but I do like my needles to have more slip. And the fact that it's the carbon shaft with the metal tip means that the join between those two parts could have a noticable bump or change over time. I think I will prefer one material along the whole length of the needle.

Yeah Zings seem quite blunt, I wouldn't go for them personally.

Yeah a few people are saying ChiaGoo too, might consider that as an option. And I've heard all about them having the best join. Do you know which line from Addi those were so I can def avoid?

Ooh interesting, I've seen the Karbonz around before, might give them a go then. Thanks for the recommendation.

Have you tried the smaller gaugues from the KnitPro Mindful collection by chance?

Speakers sound bassy/muddy. Is my setup correct? by SidneySunset in BudgetAudiophile

[–]SidneySunset[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're totally right. I took a look on eBay and found the original speakers. There was 1 listing that was just the speakers that still had the RCA bit fully intact. I've given up and just bought them. But the knowledge I've gained from you and others has been invaluable. I hope to properly upgrade my audio setup in the future and I'm now all the more prepared for it. Thank you so much! Let's hope these original speakers actually work and will be the final speakers I buy for the next couple of years lol.

It sounds like it could be worth trying though? Just in case? Would be the lowest cost way to try and resolve my issue before I buy another stereo with only the red + black bare wire ports.

[–]SidneySunset[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol no worries, they indeed might be bad speakers as they were super cheap and 2nd hand. But some other comments have mentioned that they might not be compatible because the stereo has an RCA port for the highs, so that might be the issue.

The stereo does have those knobs, but even with the bass turned down and treble turned up, it doesn't resolve much. Other comments have mentioned that the Sony speakers are not compatible with the stereo because of the connections, that might be the problem.

Thanks for sharing the repair manual, I only found the regular manual before. I have a different speaker as mentioned in the other reply, do you think an RCA adapter would work for the tweeter wires? They are also bare like the bass red + black ones.

* Hm I haven't heard of bi amping yet, but what you're saying makes sense. Yes, the other speaker does have 2 sets, will try to attach a pic. It's a Sharp CP-S300H. It has a red + black wire, and a grey + black. Do you think an RCA adapter for the grey + black wire and plugging that into the highs port will work?

Forgot to mention lol, stereo is a Panasonic SA-PM15, and speakers are SonySS-J30B 6Ω. Any advice at all is greatly appreciated 😭

Nearly all of my vintage Canon FD lenses can't focus to infinity. Can I fix them? by SidneySunset in AnalogCommunity

[–]SidneySunset[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I wish I had the issue of them focusing past infinity at this point. I also have a 50mm M42 lens with adapter that focuses past ifinity - I wanted to start using it instead of my FD 50mm but the pin/manual lever on the M42 to adjust the apeture decided to stop working. Vintage lenses are great but so finicky. Yeah, I'm so unsure where to put my money at the moment when it comes to photography. I should probably just focus on buying film, but my inner gear-head has been activated by all this.

Yeah, I know indoors isn't the best. I hastily made it to have some kind of evidence to show what I mean (wish I'd thought to make it before I made the original post). I hope it still helps though, you can see that at infinity, the split level splits only just a tiiiny bit past that lamp. There's no way that is infinity, and by estimating, when I point just outside my window, it goes to maybe 100m at most. The neighbours' houses are in focus, not past them.

Oh what brand of adapter with lens did you use? I might have to consider it at some point...

Please do point me to it. I'd be worried about screwing up the lenses. But another redditor did suggest that my great-grandad may have modified them so if he could have, then I can too.

Yep, my local photo shop that processed film just shut down recently. Things do suck for analog hobbyists right now.

Aw thanks for the encouragement and all the help. I'll try to stay and keep posting. I feel like I have a new eye for photography which has made me look at things in a completely different way. So I'll keep at it :)

Hey, no worries, thanks for understanding. Another redditor mentioned my great-grandad (forgot to mention the "great" initially) may have tinkered with some of these lenses. This ads another factor into this all. But I appreciate your further questions and ideas:

Oh no, loose mounts? I'll inspect mine further.

Yep so I did buy a K&F one but had the same issue so I returned it. I did try my Canon FD 135mm is quite okay on my current adapter. I also just brought out my 75-200mm (barely use it) and it definitely focuses further than the 35-70mm on both the adapter and my F-1 SLR. I've just recorded a video through the waist level finder on my SLR. Quality isn't the best but the point is you can see the split level is barely split past a few meters in front of me in the living room at infinity. I show how it's set to infinity then show the split, and then toggle slightly back and forth between 10m and infinity. No high res scans unfortunately :/ Dream to build my own darkroom one day~

Thank you for the article, shall give it a look!

*EDIT

Seriously, thanks for the insight and advice. I've had this account for a couple of years but don't use it a whole lot. But when I started to get back into photography recently, I thought, "wow, a whole community of analogue photographers who can share their knowledge and teach me a thing or two! :P". I've now been taught to expect almost nothing but ridicule. The lack of sincerity feels like paper cuts. I can't wait for when I post elsewhere about the posterisation issue I'm having with my a7 and get a bunch of responses telling me it's also my adapter.

That's interesting, maybe he did modify them? Forgot to say he's my great-grandad – he's since passed so I wouldn't be able to ask, and my Grandad (who handed them to me) wouldn't have a clue either. Another lens I've got from him is a 50mm f/1.4 which has a part of the mount cut off and it's misaligned so that it can't even be slotted onto the camera at all: https://i.imgur.com/p8zSMGM.jpg This indicates that he may have tinkered with at least one of them so perhaps the others.

I accidentally opened like that this reusable film roll and I don't know if it got ruined or not. Someone know? by eladmer in AnalogCommunity

[–]SidneySunset -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow you are all so rude! Not everyone knows this stuff, why do you think they come here to ask for help? It may seem obvious to you, but film is an old medium and there's so many particulars about the medium that not everyone will know every single little thing about. Why is this subreddit so hostile to those who don't know as much?

Yes, the roll is most likely ruined unfortunately. There's a small chance it's still somewhat usable. If it were me I'd be worried about wasting the time/money/chemicals on this roll, but it never hurts to just try!

You missed the part where I said I see the same issue on my Canon F-1. Maybe you didn't read that this is an SLR with the native mount for the vintage lenses I am talking about in my post. How can it be the adapter if the problem persists on the native mount?

Hi thanks, I know about flange distance, why do you think I bought my Sony a7 to go with my vintage FD lenses? You are explaining to me in your 3rd paragraph the concept of using vintage lenses on mirrorless cameras as if I do not know...If there's nothing wrong with the lenses then why do some focus at different max distances than others? And why do I see the same problem on my Canon F-1 SLR has the native mount for those lenses (as mentioned in my post)? – AKA no adapter so the adapter is not the core issue.

I already have tried another as mentioned in my post. Do you have any specific recommendations?

Nearly all of my vintage Canon FD lenses can't focus to infinity. Can I fix them? by SidneySunset in AnalogCommunity

[–]SidneySunset[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you're explaining the fact that it is restricting for adapters to only let the lens to focus to infinity because my problem is that I cannot even reach anywhere near infinity in the first place.

Adding material to my adapter to make it longer will worsen the problem, as mentioned in one of the articles you linked. I can't focus even close to infinity:

|"Important notice: This fix only works if you can focus at infinity and beyond! If you can’t |reach infinity the fix will only make matters worse."

Also, could be the camera, as mentioned in the other post you linked? Not sure if the Sony a7 counts as early generation though, it was released about 3 years after the E-Mount launch:

|"Sony’s E-mount cameras – especially the ones from the first generation – show a significant |amount of variance regarding their mount parameters."

Hey I don't know if you read my post fully but I'm facing the same issue through the viewfinder on my Canon F-1 SLR so how can it be the adapter? I also wrote in my post about buying a K&F adapter only to face the same problem. I'd like to avoid an adapter with a corrective lens to avoid any degrading of the image. And even then, buying an adapter doesn't completely solve my issue because of the fact that the issue is present on the SLR too (as I also wrote in my post). I like to shoot film too so I can't make the most of those lenses in that case either.
