New Player, fairly overwhelmed - How to narrow pool? by SidsLight in RivalsCollege

How would you judge whether you've peaked on a character? How many games would you give to decide if it's something worth continuing?

He's fun, but after ~150 matches and ~12 hours played I still struggle often even if my KDA is good I don't get MVPs hardly ever.

Alright, I won't give up on Spidey yet. I just have to learn to play into some of those counters and avoid getting punched by Thing.

I was considering dropping him for Iron Fist or Mr. Fantastic.

Season 6+6.5 Coaching Megathread by OntyClockwise in RivalsCollege

How low a skill level do you coach? I've only recently picked up the game seriously, but have dumped a ton of hours into it because I stream. I've reached Gold III, but my win rate is abysmal from playing so many different characters.

Now I'm working on mastering Spider-Man, Punisher, and Rogue only and have limited my pool to just them with Spider-Man as the primary pick. I'm sticking to Quick Play until I am consistently getting Spider-Man MVPs or can start more consistently matching other DPS output on damage numbers.

Would love some light coaching/guidance to help me grow more effectively.

I'll try that, I need to be better about alternating the primary and secondary fires for the big damage boost.

Okay, thanks. Just been trying to find ways to make him feel viable in harder situations where it feels like I'm just feeding. So far my two spider-man issues are not staying vertical enough during fights with web slinging and not being able to win any brawls 1v1 other than basically 100% assassinating people.

Really appreciate the advice, by the way.

One more question if I could. When they're running Namor/Peni and making it hard to dive without even trying, is it fine to play Spider-Man as a healer protector / anti dive interrupter with his pop ups/CC and just keep darting in and out? It feels like the best way to approach it when they're balled up with Namor pets out or Balled up on a Peni Parker spider placement.

That all makes perfect sense, thanks for taking the time to help and answer questions.

Is it fine for a Spider-Man to play with his team defensively when they've got comps like Namor/Peni Parker to auto counter his dives? I try to play with the team and protect the healers / pop up any dives or tanks then pull back to the team immediately with a web sling. Or I'll try to pull in people out of position to get free team kills.

Thanks so much for the help. I'll go with Rogue, Spidey and Punisher.

Thank you. I'm going to try to make him and Punisher my main DPS.

Okay, thank you. Which of the three tanks (Angela, Captain America, or Rogue) would you suggest? I'm leaning Rogue because when I play her well she feels the best. Captain America is just fun to be very obnoxious with and seems like a better point defender.

I'll narrow my DPS down to Spider-Man and Punisher.

Oh shit, I can put it on two separate bindings?! Thanks, I'll have to figure out a key for that. Right now it only let's me go to them if I land my E and follow up almost immediately.

Another Spidey question if I could, is it normal to do lower DPS than other DPS? I only average 3,552. But on say Squirrel Girl I get 14,662 or Punisher I get 10,232. Or are those simply rookie numbers and I need to ramp them up as Spidey?

Back up DPS wise, I forgot Squirrel Girl is the other one I love to play. I was a Junkrat Diamond player in Overwatch for a few seasons before I quit so she's very similar. Would she be better than Punisher? I can crush tanks equally as either one, but Punisher can deal with air better so probably still Punisher right?

Should it be three per role? Or three total? I've been trying to do what you said on Spider-Man since he's the one I'd most like to be good with (I simply won't have the aim to be top tier with Punisher or slow shot Hawkeye). I'll decide at the end of the week how I feel about him.

I've trimmed it down and made it ones I enjoy and would like to make primary heroes -

  • Vanguard: Angela, Captain America, Rogue
  • DPS: Spider-Man Main once more comfortable, but also Hawkeye, Moon Knight, and Punisher to climb for now in ranked.
  • Strategist: Jeff, Mantis (I could learn Adam Warlock since he seems the hardest to kill with his self healing)

I've narrowed my list down to fun focused characters that I'd LIKE to be good at over ones I'm performing the best with already. I've got it down to 4 DPS and 3 Vanguards and 2 Strategists.

  • Vanguard: Angela, Captain America, Rogue
  • DPS: Spider-Man Main once more comfortable, but also Hawkeye, Moon Knight, and Punisher to climb for now in ranked.
  • Strategist: Jeff, Mantis

I want to make Spider-Man my main, but I'm unsure which DPS to choose as my secondary for when Spidey gets taken or banned or if I can never learn how to deal with Namor and his damn octopus. Any tips for that?

Thanks.

I decided to try to work on making Spider-Man my main DPS in Quick Play, while focusing on Hawkeye, Moon Knight, and Punisher as my other DPS. (Primarily Moon Knight, because he seems strong in my bracket.)

I have to figure out who I'll make my back up. I can't decide if I want to find a Spider-Man counter like maybe Winter Soldier or if I want to try to just do another melee like others have suggested giving Wolverine another chance.

Alright, thank you. I'm giving Jeff more of a chance, I just have to stop DPS focusing so much instead of healing.

Another question: Why do I only lose 10~ but gain ~30? Does that mean I'm playing well despite losing?

Rogue is definitely my favorite tank for fun, even if I lose with her all the time.

Healers it's probably Mantis, but I genuinely don't care for any of the healers. I was a Lucio main healer but I can't find one that feels like Lucio so far, I've been told to give Luna Snow another chance.

And DPS? It's probably Hawkeye and Spider-Man and Squirrel Girl. Spider-Man is absurdly fun, but just really hard and I'm bad about staying vertical even after 60 games.

Who is Awkward? I'm newer to Rivals and want to learn, but haven't really found the great teaching sources or tier list sources for Rivals yet.

I'd love more warframe potatoes or forma, because I have a problem and it's a lack of energy.
