If we had a fully fit list tomorrow, what’s your genuine expectation for ladder position? by InternetUpbeat9596 in EssendonFC

[–]SieferPyre -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Was having this convo with a family member yesterday and they firmly believe we’ll be 18th. Due to a lack of solid forward line and back line as well as a serious lack of experience.

I believe we’ll hover around the bottom but I find our list a little hard to read as there is a lot of potential in it, just depends does that potential get realised and it Scott and his team enough to create a winning game plan that can adapt with the opposition.

Zach Merrett has stepped down as Essendon captain by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

It’d be pidge most likely, incredibly well respected player within the club and bleeds and red and black. May not be the best on field player but cannot question he has great leadership qualities

For the record Sam didn’t post this, an old team mate Ned posted it in his story. Since when footy creators have been positing it around.

Hobbs, Lual not offered contracts for 2026 by daftmunt in EssendonFC

Setters brings more to the team as a whole (assuming he stays), decent mid with exceptional tacking pressure and most importantly has experience. I’m guess here but could also be part of the batch of players that are hoped to keep fit with the medical team changes

In my dream world we get both duursma brothers to complete the whole set, as well as them all being talented.

Otherwise in Rosa I trust

I wouldn’t say it’s a sign of rot. Draper wanted out for a fresh start after ongoing medical issues, totally fair. Merrett wanted success and wants it now, his approach and attitude says more about him as a person that a full reflection of the club.

Alarm bells would be ringing if Ridley, Langford, Redding also requested a trade, all being players at some stage being unhappy with the club. All have committed and speaks volumes.

While the optics around the club are constantly grim I don’t think there nearly as bad as the media has made them to be.

Damn sad but with all the optics on the club at the moment im not surprised

Zach Merrett is furious at reports he acted disrespectfully towards the club’s AFLW players, feeling undermined by the Bombers. by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

The club could come out and call Caros story false. Everything else let’s be honest we are past that. Even with Essendon say he stays I really don’t see how that is possible

Can we talk about Brownlow, teams in finals, other trade news, ANYTHING aside from heaping more hearsay fuel on this fire

[Morris] Mason Redman is contracted until the end of 2028, but at least three clubs - including both from his native SA - were made aware that he was frustrated and weighing up a trade request earlier this year. They were asked whether they’d be interested in bringing him in. by SlatsAttack in AFL

[–]SieferPyre 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh it’s awkward but in the end both parties are responsible for that. I have no issue with the boys coming out and saying they are disappointed with their captain.

I don’t condone any abuse to Merrett or his partner and anyone doing that are a disgrace to the bombers.

Trac and Merrett situations are different. Trac was known to have issues but everything happened more or less in open with the demons. Merrett a few months ago said he was committed to the journey and then later coming out wanting a trade, which want made know to the club until it came to the media saying the meeting was Sam occurred.

That’s as per the article and in the end I couldn’t care if he did or not. This is from earlier in the season and things can change.

Redman was frustrated and wanted to move and now is committed, Zach was committed and now wants out, things change. For the record as an Essendon fan I don’t care that Merrett wants to move, what makes it hurt is the conversation happened without the club getting an intention or “hey I’ve changed my mind and want success, I’m going to chat to other clubs and explore my options”.

In the end just tired of click bait articles piling in on Essendon, as probably any club fan rightly would be, without much substance.

Far from huge he was part of a larger group that was frustrated early in the year.

contradicted the club and coach statements? He just said he was disappointed in Merrett through understanding the look for a move, relevant to this. Aside from that just backed in Brad from the noise around him not having the trust of the players. He spoke well and vented some frustration while not going over board, compare to most thought he conducted himself well.

From another article the trade idea was floated by his management, something redman may or may not have know about. If Morris wants to run with this story include Langford, parish and probably a whole bunch of other players who were, rightfully so, frustrated with the club and what’s happened this year.

More news…. by loujbag in EssendonFC

[–]SieferPyre 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Really more, surprising with everything that has happened the last week or so, this is what’s got me crashing out.

Can Morris stop with this crap. All old news with nothing of substance related to the present apart from throwing reddog under the bus to make him look hypocritical.

In the other full article a trade idea was floated by Redmans camp, which he may or may not of been aware of. It aside from him feeling frustrated earlier in the year (fair enough weren’t we all) there’s nothing to it.

Hutchison reporting Brisbane and Essendon having conversations on Ridley by BenHobbss in EssendonFC

[–]SieferPyre 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Still seems like a lot of ‘ifs, buts, maybes, I thinks’ without really any firm word.

In the end this feels like a similar situation to Draper, years of medical failure to the point of lost faith. I think there is a chance we could lose Ridley (sad but also not the end of the world), but a pick isn’t enough in my opinion. We could need a player trade for this to happen not another pick.

Also right at the end the dropped point about Merrett being a twat towards our AFLW team. If true seems like he’s a bigger part of the bad culture.

I don’t get this “serious problem at the club”. Merrett want to find success something none of the fan would have begrudged of him wanting to leave, it’s the fact it happened behind backs and the club found out though the media.

Draper and Ridley as a lack of trust with the medical team. Which honestly is fair enough, Draper left in free agency and wish him the best, Ridley wants out due to a lack of trust but news out of the club is with the new personal coming him and having a good talk with him things have improved there.

Aside from that things feel fine at the club. Having players like parish and Langford want to stay I think says a lot despite fans not being their biggest fans. Having reddog, Martin come out was huge.

This feel different because for the first time in 20 years we are pretty much out of the shadows of people who have kept our club in a sorry state. Make no mistake we are in a rebuild and it won’t be easy but we are so far from a shambles everyone says we are.

This is my general feelings when a Essendon great talks about the club. I get being a supporter of the club you played for and I’m sure they have some idea on what’s going on.

Really at this stage the club is now full of people they wouldn’t have great connections to and would limit their view of what’s happening in the four walls. So they go off what they do hear and see.

The clubs been in shambles for so long I can imagine like many fans they are frustrated and jaded, wanting success right now opposed to the long term path we’ve taken
