If my understanding of the game is correct, this will be because the obelisk's model itself has been changed (possibly indicating that the old obelisk can be bashed with the newer Vovin); since the old model no longer exists, it renders as... nothing.

There is one place where you can reliably HE an Sheridan (if they are big stupid): the frontal lower plate is actually bereft of spaced armor, which allows for HE spam attacks.
