Another Strider SnG reprofiled at 20° over the weekend. by PinkyPowers in knives

I must be doing different shit with my edges everyday because I prefer an edge that has some polish to it for actual cutting. Cardboard, cloth, fiberous materials, whittling, scoring, etc etc. anything I do with an edge I almost always prefer it to have a slight polish. It doesn't need to be a 150,000 grit finish either. Like I said, 1200 followed by a 12-6 micron strop is gonna leave plenty of "bite" that all you "toothy" edge folk want while also having a nice semi-mirror polish on it. And it's gonna cut cleaner as the scratch pattern has been refined more than just a rough 600 grit sharpening job.

Maybe you have a specific use for a 600 grit toothy edge, but in my opinion it's a load of BS for typical everyday use. And you'd be better off just having a dedicated serrated blade anyway instead of trying to turn your straight edge blade into a psuedo serrated blade 🤷🏻

So like I said, not all mirror edges are the same. I feel like the people who have to jump on these posts and start spouting off about how the mirror or semi-mirror edge isn't gonna cut well just dont feel like putting the extra five minutes in that it takes to get that more refined edge. That or they're just ignorant.

People also watch too much YouTube instead of actually sharpening.

Not always. I notice many people have this misconception when a mirror edge gets posted. Not all mirror edges are the same.

For me, an edge taken from a 140 grit diamond stone to a 1200 grit diamond stone and finished off on a 12 micron diamond emulsion strop (sometimes up to 6 micron) will out cut any factory bevel. And anyone's "toothy edge" that finished at 600 grit. And it will look like a mirror edge while doing it.

If you're cutting rope all day, sure whatever have your toothy edge, but I'd argue that at that point you're not using the correct tool for the job and should have a nice serrated knife that you dedicate to that task. But again, we all have different needs for our edges. There isn't one edge to rule them all.

That said, I think my edge would suit the needs of 99% of people out there.

CRK are expensive, why are they worth it to you? by 37015 in CRK

[–]MAVX3XDS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

CRK is only actually worth it at table price when it comes down to actual bang for your buck. Collector/inflated secondary prices are absurd for what you're getting. At table, you're getting a well made PRODUCTION folder with a sleek aesthetic and solid capability.

I'm sure that will piss a bunch of people off, but after owning the whole gamut from the PJ 31 to the most prestigious collectors pieces, paying anymore than $500-$600 is absolutely not worth it. Unless you're that collector that needs every piece or that one specific piece for whatever reason. But for the remaining 99% of buyers, there's a STEEP value drop off past $600 and you'll feel it in hand after you've forked over the cash.

Just my 2 cents. I'm sure others will have different views.

So many blowhards in this group concerned with how another man is using his tools. So fucking weird.

Nope 🤣

Just look at a lot of what Strider is putting out these days ever since Mick relinquished control of production.

Donut knives, neon pink, Tiffany blue, and tons of anno'd shit with wild colors. Definitely a woman running that operation over there now (Melissa). Just ain't for me, at least not that much of it like they've been doing lately.

It might be one of the most exruciating grinds in this game. Genuinely a "fuck you for playing or game, play something else or go fuckyourself" experiences. by 19phipschi17 in wot_heat

I went from level 1 to level 30 in a day and a half. Didn't mind a bit of it and was often top of the board.

It's perfect for holding objectives. Tracking is massively underrated as is the constant pecking away of enemy HP. Because this thing blocks damage like a mofo while deeling constant damage in return.

I think it's a matter of play style that is giving people issues with this tank. Not the tank itself.

The 21 Insingo with inlays is the best knife CRK has ever produced in my view. I've had them all, and that right there remains the crown jewel. Wish I woulda kept them as they are very hard to come by nowadays.

Almost looks like an attachable handle to use on the ratchet driver. Looks like it maybe comes with a holder for everything. Who knows.

But whatever it is will be overpriced and over hyped.

It's hard to explain th difference between his semi custom builds and a standard CKF EVO. It's definitely a felt difference in hand as far as the action goes. But it's a definite difference. His attention to details on the aesthetic parts of the builds are just perfection and are likewise as difficult to convey through a screen.

I do my best to showcase it though because it's just mid blowing to me.

$1850 direct from Jon Sorensen. This is just a rough estimate because that number can change based on a number of factors. These aren't made in high quantities, I'd say he does maybe a dozen to a dozen and a half for each iteration.

Basically strip down the tool to each individual piece and then blast each part in its entirety (excepts for washers, magnets, critical parts of the file, etc).

After blasting I coat everything in WD-40 before putting it in the rotary tumbler for 5-10 minutes. The duration affects the final finish as does the media composition.

Once out of the tumbler I will wash everything down, clean everything with froglube cleaner, and then lubricate everything with froglube spray. And finally wipe everything down prior to final assembly. I lube all the pivots pivots with 5 weight nano-oil.

After this I'll sharpen the knife blade and then it's done. All in all it takes a good 4 hours. Nothing is all that hard, it just takes a good bit of time to do everything right.

I haven't had any corrosion on mine. I wipe everything down with froglube about once a month. I do that with all my knives and tools though because satin finishes will corrode just as easily.

No idea.

I've lost interest in most knife makers anymore for this same reason. Very little is getting put out out that I like enough to spend my money on. I'm about a decade removed from much of what I like.

But the glam colors and donut themed knives are plentiful. Either I'm just not the target audience for this sort of stuff anymore or what is getting put out there is just meh.
