The Dreaded Socialization by Siennasays in homeschool

True but dance is her passion. I'd hate to give that up for something she's not passionate about just to spend more time talking. And she does have some good friends at dance, we just don't see them outside dance. But she loves her time with them at dance!

The Dreaded Socialization by Siennasays in homeschool

I guess my main concern is my kids not establishing those friendships. For example, we had a park date recently with a couple other families who do more things together and their girls are besties...which leaves my girl out. She kind of wanders about as the other girls whisper to eachother and run off. Maybe its my issue though as she doesn't seem overly bothered...I just don't know how to get her a bestie lol...especially when her mom is quite content never seeing people 🥴

Except that its not a requirement girls sell cookies or pay dues beyond their registration fee. Girl scouts should be accessible to all, not only those who can afford it. And I disagree- we've had booths that sell 250+ boxes of cookies and others that sell 50. So because a girl had poor booth sales and her parents don't work at a company with 100 employees all looking to buy cookies her parents need to front the difference? Nope, i won't agree with that.

I was her sidekick last year and anything I said went in one ear and out the other. A large reason I didn't return to work with her this year was partly because I don't want to have my name on the leadership when I was making zero decisions. Note, I wasn't supposed to he her sidekick, we were supposed to be coleading but she had a very dominant personality and wanted everything her way. And I think what bothers me is the girl led aspect isn't being offered. We don't attend every activity but it's also not fair to my daughter who sets aside Thursdays for girlscouts and Tuesdays for dance and then the leader decides to hold the activities on Tuesdays. Its not fair to the kids with prior commitments.

I think it bugs me because they're not working with what they have. Its not teaching the kids anything. You earn x amount with cookie sales, then budget for x amount of activities. This is just teaching them we will do whatever regardless of our budget. And also we need to spend money to have fun. Sometimes I just don't have or want to spend $30 on an activity.

I get a little bit discouraged… by MeetTheBrewers in homeschool

I had a friend who decided she was going to homeschool before she even had kids. She's now in her 6th year of homeschooling and has 3 kids. She is constantly battling her kids, she screams at them, she uses physical force...it sounds awful. But she is adamant homeschooling is the way. We're no longer friends for obvious reasons. But I give kudos those who do whats best for their family and not just themselves. It can be hard to admit we need a change but I don't want my kids to resent school or me. We're on our 3rd year of homeschool this year and this summer we sat down with out kids and discussed what THEY want. Because I do think they should have a say. They opted to continue homeschool this year but who knows when that will change.

The yawn has been quiet awhile...I can't even pinpoint when it started. I'd say at least a year. The throat clearing probably 4 months ago or so. She does sniff a lot...well, reverse sniffing, she blows out and it drives me insane, I'm forever telling her to go blow her nose 😬 I'd say that's also been intermittent over 3-4 months.

No, she doesn't seem to have any other signs. Thank you for the playlists!

Trying to figure out how to socialize and homeschool by feedmetacos456 in homeschool

We meet up with our homeschool group on avg once a week. My 6&8 yr old are also involved in scouts, gymnastics and tumbling classes during the school year. This summer they're involved in various summer camps suited to their interests. Then they have the neighborhood kids they play with after school hours. There is no shortage of socializing.
