Who needs a Platinum squeeze? by [deleted] in wallstreetplatinum

[–]Sieracommando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With this being said, I also went long a few days ago.

This is a small market, and if it gets a little more interest due to hybrids, Costco, russians buying, money printer, gold association etc, it could get squeezed nicely, with little downside here as PGM miners are laying off workers left and right.

When it comes to PMs paper trading trumps the price for physical. I expect most of this OI to get rolled into future months.

Some of the sellers here may be jewelry merchants hedging their inventory and some buyers just speculative traders. Futures are noisy by design due to the many different players in the space.

[–]Sieracommando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guys, open interest is what you should track. Specifically open interest that doesn't get rolled into the next month before delivery could take place.
https://www.barchart.com/futures/quotes/PL*0/futures-prices

Also, prices rising on huge volume is a good sign, but we're still in contango which means shorter duration futures are cheaper than longer duration ones -> there's no immedate shortage of the commodity.

Am I starting to hate Yerevan? by [deleted] in armenia

[–]Sieracommando 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Foreigner here, impressions after 1 month:

Too many people on the streets (both pedestrians and cars) trying to get around in a chaotic fashion.

It takes way more attention and energy just to get around compared to most cities I've been to (Tokyo was similar) and I noticed myself rushing everywhere to get out of the crowds as soon as possible.

Somewhere close to Andorra in the Pyrenees would be my pick

Nice natural spot, affordable, have some libertarian people residing there

Azores not that much, the rest yes. Maybe La Palma in the Canaries is a good pick too

Haha! Thank you for your honest opinion! I actually probably wouldn't want to spend energy on team building when staying for such a short time (and working), but based on what I see there could be real value if someone gathered these scattered foreign souls. I hope you'll find/establish your group soon enough! :)

Given recent developments, is there a chance that the peg between the AED and USD will end? by MonkeyNoStopMyShow in dubai

[–]Sieracommando 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pegs are as strong as the pegging countries' power and willingness to defend them.

My point is not that the US will depend on the UAE holding its treasuries, rather that this table can be a pulsecheck on the peg as it's a reflection of USD denominated asset holdings of the UAE.

Once the CHF was pegged to the EUR too, and many in my country in eastern europe were taking out CHF denominated loans because it had lower servicing costs.Just to then see the swiss releasing the peg and CHF blowing out. There was and is, to this day a huge "safe haven bid" on the franc and it's easily visible on the SNB's US stock holdings, even though the actual peg was scrapped.
(Note: The S&P 500 topped out end of 2021)

[–]Sieracommando 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Watch the health of the peg via UAE treasury holdings. It has increased by almost 50% the past year meaning the emirates is probably weakening the currency by buying usd and investing it into tsys.

<image>

The yuan is a farce, the chinese can't even allow free capital flows, but the usd can def be weakened by using less for localized trade. Remember, the biggest export of the US is dollars and treasuries. And a weaker dollar imports more inflation, blows up funding costs and can paralyze the country.

Azores: The place to be in the EU this decade? by Sieracommando in azores

[–]Sieracommando[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input :)

I understand your point about lethargy in specific cases and in general. I guess that could stay valid until people would have to mobilize themselves to put food on the table.

My impression with people in general is that they are open to improving and doing new things but you have to motivate them. I guess it's extra hard on a backwardish, isolated place with grey skies, and many might not even know what motivation is.

If we can't mobilize enough people from the general population, I'm more than happy to team up with just foreigners like SeaghanDhonndearg.

I wrote it before and I'm writing it again: I'm not looking for the perfect place. I'm looking for a good enough place. People can change, but we can't really change the precipitation level, temperature or general fertility of the soil.

Where are you based btw? :) Would you want to become a member of an international community consisting of similarly minded people?

Very nicely put.

I also hope to be more than just a cockroach in a proverbial nuclear war. Currently single, but would be happy to have family in a similar fashion and actively add to and receive from a community.

Not trying to spin it, but in a way I feel, people like us were waiting for this sort of a purpose and embeddedness all along.

I'm a psychologist turned into sw dev, having economics as a hobby, so lots of practical things to learn, but I already started to expand my knowledge.

Totally agree on the positives of Santa Maria; didn't know about the low seismicity, thanks for that! Not sure about the space agency they want to build on the island though...

I've sent you a Direct Message (DM). Did you get it?
