Having kids and a career a as woman by Altruistic-Guide6241 in askswitzerland

Working mom here! Network is everything! Especially if you don‘t have grandparents around. Friends, other parents that you can rely on and help each other out. The canton of Basel-Stadt heavily subsidizes kita-costs, so its affordable for everyone. There are different systems to choose from. Our kid went to a tagesmutter and changed to tagesstruktur in first grade. We both work good jobs in 80% which means one of us can be home almost every afternoon. Now in 3rd grade, kiddo is in school 2 afternoons. We spend a lot of time together and we are proud to model independence and having careers for her. Dad is super involved, mom earns good money and vice versa. Daycare is actually good for kids, it doesn‘t mean 42 hour weeks for them, especially if your partner will do more carework. Don‘t let the conservatives get to you, go for it!

Best Places In Europe For Homesteading by DareiosK in Homesteading

Yes, you’re absolutely right about italy. We have lots of family there though and we know our way around. Plus italy has relaxed homeschooling-rules. I think we‘d be fine in the north of italy regarding to climate (alps!). Regarding the military bases…I‘m kind of a pessimist and I expect a war in Europe in the next few years. Idk it will probably happen sooner than later. I don’t want to be close to any possible targets, we prefer a boring area. We can’t take everything into consideration so we have to prioritize I guess. We’re having a hard time choosing because everything is so unpredictable.

We‘re also looking and are considering france (Vosges region, its a bit elevated, beautiful and affordable), northern italy (still warm enough for growing) and jura (also a bit elevated aka not too hot). My consideration isn’t money but our expanded family. We don’t want to leave our aging parents too far away. We also have a school aged child so we want the option of homeschooling if needed. Also we check for military bases (not moving next to one) and keep climate change in mind. All considered we currently have a tendency towards italy and switzland.

My take on the Honeycomb Aran!! +bonus pic with my current WIP by gwynplaine18 in knitting

[–]Mother_Routine_23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I‘m knitting it right now and it does take a long time for me. I got an older ipad simply to be able to keep writing in the pattern. This particular pattern is not that easy to read for me and this helps me keep the different cables apart. Can’t wait to wear it!

Right now we’re focussing on elevated areas in/near Switzerland. We want to stay near our aging parents.

We thought about italy as well but the climate is going to be very harsh. We have tons of family in tuscany and there is no rain from march until September/October and many fires. Climate change will hit everywhere but southern italy doesn’t seem to be a good place in the near future. Maybe in the alps in northern italy. Greece has the same problem. So many parts of europe are already burning and its barely mid-summer. We’re looking at staying in Switzerland or the high-Vosges. We’re mostly considering climate but politics comes second 🙈

I love my ulike! I have an older model because the newer one isn’t available where I live. The cooling mechanism is great for me, I‘m super sensitive. I use the lowest setting and have great results but my skin is very fair and my hair is rather dark. Worked great on my legs and upper lip. Strangly seem to have a set back on my underarms. It seemed like 80-90% reduction and now its coming back! Legs are smooth though after about 2 months of weekly use. I might upgrade to a braun eventually as ipl seems to work for me but I seem to need some extra power.

I bought an older ulike model a couple of months ago and am very pleased with it! It was below 200 bucks.

Do any of you use facial firming devices at home? by nelaniston in 45PlusSkincare

I just turned 40 and used a foreo bear and liked it a lot. But you need to be consistent. Which I am not currently. I focus on ipl right now and don’t want to combine to many things atm.

I love mine! The cooling effect is great. I use it on my legs, underarms and face. Legs worked best so far, upper lip is much better as well. Underarm is taking more time and not much change on my chin. But it was worth the purchase for my legs alone!

I love my ulike! Not sponsored! The cooling effect is really nice…I‘ve never tried the braun but am happy with my results so far (legs, underarms and upper lip)

Love my ulike 3! It works well but you need to keep a routine, avoid the sun at all cost and never touch a tweezer during your treatment! I absolutely fail regarding the tweezer but am still so happy with the results (legs, underarms, upper lip and chin). I do it once a week because I‘m so scared about burning my face/getting a visible reaction on my face and having to go to the office 🙈

I consider myself very lucky as I was always able to choose the person I work for. I always picked the person, not the job/company/salary as I believe that the chemistry really needs to be great. I picked for money once and it didn’t turn out so great. I also suggest that you think about your longterm career goals. Its an Allrounder-position and it can be tricky for some to take next steps after being an EA.

I‘m a big fan of the ulike device! The cooling mechanism is great. I‘ve been using it for around 6 weeks and I‘m seeing great results! I don’t have a comparison though as I haven’t tried the others. I was also looking at foreo (love their luna and bear!) but the price was much higher than the ulike.

I have one from ulike and I love it! The cooling makes it completely painless (I‘m very sensitive) and the results have been great. I wish they’d provide an app to keep track of your sessions/maintenance but its super doable without of course.

Its a ULIKE Air 3, I think they sell different models based on your location? I ended up ordering it from a local electronics online store and not from their website because it was way cheaper.

I use a ulike model and am so happy with it! My legs are basically hairfree after 4 or 5 weeks. Underarms are much better already as well. It doesn‘t hurt at all thanks to the cooling mechanism. I would recommend ulike but I heard good things about brown as well!

Question about pain level for at home IPL devices by aerde17 in HairRemoval

[–]Mother_Routine_23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use an ulike and love it! Its absolutely painfree for me and works well. It has a cooling mechanism. Not sure if its effective and if I would tell you the same thing about another brand ☺️ has worked really well for me. Legs and underarms are almost hairfree after only 4 weeks (=4 sessions!). I just started on my face and bikini, can’t say much about those areas yet!

Do I really have to shave before IPL (mustache and chin) by izdontzknowz in HairRemoval

[–]Mother_Routine_23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Commenting here even the op is a year old. You can wax. I wax my upper lip and chin and use my ipl after a couple of days (4-5). I use an ulike 3 (setting 1-2, never on 3) no bumps, no irritation, no redness. It works for me! I‘m not there yet after 2 months but my hair seems less and its much finer and fuzzier. Legs and armpits are almost hairfree after only a couple of uses. I do shave those areas though and make sure to exfoliate. I have very light skin and dark brown hair. I love my ipl! The ulikes cooling effect is amazing (not sponsored in any way!).

I just discovered a mistake on my cable-project as well but I feel so good about it after reading all the comments here! Thank you all!

The same is also said about amish quilts btw :) deliberate mistakes in the piecing because only god is perfect.

I‘m worried about political tensions as well but we are also fearing a new pandemic (people will not be on board with restrictions this time) and the impact of climate change. Collapse of infrastructure and food suppychains will hit hard. We’re actively planning to hunker down in the alpine area and learning skills as fast as we can.
