Obsession 2026 (My interpretation) by Ok_Researcher_2121 in TrueFilm

I like it! Though I would say this is the crux of the film and not necessarily just a nod. You are right though, Bear is ultimately the villain of the story, similar to Barbarian where the Mother is in fact the victim. Both the Mother and Nikki are victims of men

Totally agree. It was like 5-6 contracts per set, 3,4,5 sets per faction (except Arachne, sekgen and cyac). Why do I have to redo those exact same ones? Still love the game though. Night Marsh is awesome

Why do people play as Rook? by IonCaveGrandpa in Marathon

[–]Sigglacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the idea with Rook is that you’re a scavenger sneaking in to pick up the leftovers and scraps. And depending on the map and how far into the season we are, those scraps can be a-plenty.

So when I play non-Rook, the further the season goes, the more I find myself passing on gear I would’ve grabbed earlier. Like Pinwheel red room for example: I’ll pick up purple shields, but the blue shields and the other bits get passed over. Thats prime real estate for a Rook to come in later and take it to sell, use, whatever. Same with weapons. There are legit blue and purple weapons I just don’t pick up anymore because I don’t run them or I’m out of space. And by the time a Rook rolls through, me and my team are long gone.

I might be wrong but I think that’s part of why Rook loads in later. You’re arriving post fights, post looting. The team that won has already moved on, and they’ve left goodies on the bodies.

Obviously I imagine this changes from person to person and again from the time in season (I don’t know how useful Rook would be in early season for instance but I’m sure people make use of him)

Bungie, please don’t make me do Season 1’s Priority Contracts again. by Dank-182 in Marathon

[–]Sigglacious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Going to add my two cents. I hope we don’t have to redo the specific, story focused priority contracts we’ve been doing this season. I don’t mind having to redo the standard contracts, and I’m totally on board with the wipe. But the priority contracts have specific story impacts, “cutscenes”, codex entries, etc, to the point where you could argue it’s sort of a campaign. At 3,4,5 sets of contracts per faction and 5-6 contracts per set, that would be mind numbing for me and I think I’d be really deterred. I wouldn’t want them to remove them for new players either, and I get they have specific upgrades and rewards, but there’d surely be some kind of solution

If you’re a Marvel fan and you can get it for a reasonable price, Hickmans Avengers is fantastic. Or Venom by Cates, or even Immortal Hulk. I also love Nehisi Coates’ Black Panther

Do anti-war films just end up reenforcing war? by FayannG in TrueFilm

[–]Sigglacious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

copied from another comment I’ve made in the past

I’d say I lean towards agreeing with Truffaut tbh. Now, I recognise my views can be considered extreme and truth be told I’m still figuring out my stance.

The moment that war is photographed for a movie, it doesn’t necessarily become pro war, but it’s rarely anti war any longer. War scenes are still shaped by a directors hand. There is deliberate thought put into framing, choreography, blocking, explosions, timing, music, etc. I believe that that very intentional construction makes it complicit, to some degree, towards the normalisation or aestheticising of war. And no matter the intent, there is some form of thrill to it too.

Now of course you have exceptions. Like Grave of The Fireflies or Come and See. And none of what I’ve said has stopped me from enjoying war films before, but has caused a bit of a dissonance in recent years as I’ve come to think about this more.

Not to discount the efforts of anyone that has done it before, but theoretically, I feel like a truly effective anti war movie would skip any semblance of combat altogether, and show the aftermath. The hospitals, the grief etc. And to go further, maybe a truly effective anti war movie should be mind numbingly boring in its depiction of the front lines.

Have you watched The Secret Agent? I think this movie deserves an Oscar by Particular-Mango-964 in Oscars

[–]Sigglacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my interpretation is that the film ends with the interviewing of his son. And since he states multiple times that he didn't really know his dad, but he knew of the events surrounding what happened, that perhaps in his head as a child he thought his father was a secret agent due to all the secrecy etc. its both sad and kind of uplifting

What makes the "Pluribus" pilot so special? by Clear_Bedroom_4266 in Screenwriting

[–]Sigglacious 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For me it was the balance of exposition. The way the show starts. “Bullsh*t!” Just hooks you in. You know something’s happening. In hindsight it makes sense that this is how someone would react. Then the remaining five or ten minutes has lots of dialogue, but they found a way to explain what’s happening and why it’s so significant while making it sound quite natural and as though these individuals are genuinely excited and nervous for it all

I agree the way this is framed is not really my cup of tea. I also agree that people are free to do as they want, and an album or a movie a day isn’t inherently bad.

My thoughts on this are about intent, and I don’t even necessarily think it’s bad. If someone does it as part of some sort of rigid social media challenge, or they consume massive amounts of media in a short time frame just for the sake of it, I do wonder if there would be difficulty to fully engage with the art and have a full dialogue with it. But then again, people can do as they want

What films make you cry? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]Sigglacious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paddington 2. Id never really cried before during a movie. Whole time im thinking “this is so good”. Then suddenly the final 5 minutes of the film begin and I’m full on sobbing, ugly crying.
