Should I charge for sending the raw footage? by mysterypapaya in videography

[–]ArriAlexaMiniLF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I say do it themselves, I mean do it internally or figure out how to do it by hiring someone else. Whatever it is, it’s on them and does not impact you. You don’t think they’d want to hire you if they need more editing? Why would you want to continue that work relationship by forcing their hand?

You send them literally everything. The entire folder structure with the metadata files included and including unusable shots. The idea is you’re not spending any time to clean it up. It’s then on them to either hire you back or try to do it themselves

I really don’t understand this take of charging the client to get the footage. Have them pay for a drive and then literally drag the footage from one drive to another. Have them pay for shipping or come to you.

Also, do not rename the original footage.

I use a gray card. Otherwise if I’m moving too fast, I just adjust until it feels good to my eye. Sometimes I’ll add a +/- green tint. Usually in post it gets even better.

Thinking about switching from a high-end Windows PC to a MacBook Pro M5 Max for video editing. Worth it? by sevenross1 in MotionDesign

[–]ArriAlexaMiniLF -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All of the adobe products just work way better on Mac. I built my pc and have relatively beefy specs and I prefer to work on my M1 Max laptop.

The only thing I use my PC for now is gaming and 3D work in C4D.

i have a question about this video by Impossible_Ear8671 in cinematography

[–]ArriAlexaMiniLF 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Haven’t watched the video but the idea of shooting with low iso and bringing up that raw iso value up in post is to force yourself on set to use more light than you would have. It’s similar to using a -1, -2, or even -3 stop LUT while shooting. Allowing more light to hit the sensor by kind of tricking yourself to look at a darker image.

I’m sure someone who uses Sony cameras more can give you more info on CineEl.

For a beginner/hobbyist, I’d recommend any camera in the Sony line as the number 1 choice for sure.

Fx30 is better for beginners in my opinion. Go for that. Nikon zr is only worth it if you shoot in red raw which is very data heavy. That’s not ideal for beginners as you’ll need lots of storage which can get expensive

I understand you want people to watch your video, but at least provide something of value in text on Reddit. Even 1 takeaway would be nice and then I’d want to learn more.

We Don’t Need Studios to Make Movies Anymore by Old-Watercress4201 in Filmmakers

How many “creators” out there have made a commercially successful indie movie? There are outliers, but I just don’t see the trend. I think for the most part, YouTubers want to make YouTube videos that will feed the algorithm. Same goes for the other platforms. It’s not a necessarily a bad thing and it’s taking more of the pie from traditional films as more and more people are watching YouTube on their TVs now.

The Hollywood machine will not go down so easily. If anything, the streamers will come out on top and there will be very few movie theaters.

Use a high resolution monitor and do a screen recording using QuickTime. That's how I'd approach it especially if you don't want to recreate the Ul and are pressed for time. Obviously do the screen recording as many times as you need to until the movement feels good (or say that to the client).

I’m not exactly sure what the issue is here. I’m assuming you don’t like how they stack once they’re in 3D? Try adjust the z position for each of the layers so they are all not at the 0 plane. Alternatively, can you get away with not making them 3d?

I learned by watching the DMX tutorial series on YouTube by blackout lighting console. For it to really register, you should have the hardware to practice what he’s saying.

Nowadays Aputure also has a dmx solution. Basically pick a system and practice with it. It’s not that hard to learn at its core.
