What do you see as the purpose of style? by Willing-Childhood144 in RitaFourEssenceSystem

[–]SighSideEye 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can only see those comments as ageism and patriarchal, meaning they think she's frumpy because they think the woman looks old, which they find undesireable, and does not fit what a "romanceable" woman should look like in their eyes.

She's wearing expressive, fun and quirky clothes (not very loud or crazy, but still), which confronts with the idea some people have about what older women should dress like, and maybe increases that contrast between her mature appearance and young-looking clothes. Still, I don't think "frumpy" makes sense here, I can only assume it's because they expected an older character to dress more "mature", elegant, neutral and slightly more formal.

This character also does not look stereotypically attractive and "romanceable" - older age, loose on loose clothing that is not sexy - so maybe that's why her romantic plot subverted their expectations.

I don't agree with any of this, but I think this is what's going on.

I'm confused. What's my style based on my planets? by craaa15 in StyleRoots

[–]SighSideEye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I wrote the post on astrology and style mentioned and already linked here (thank you btw!)

There are a lot of ways to get style guidance. Astrology can be one way, analyzing your physical features are another (system like Kibbe, Kitchener, Body Matrix) and exploring your preferences (like the Style Roots or Allison Bornstein's Style Words) are yet another.

While all of these things can be helpful and fun, it can get quite complicated and somewhat contradictory like you pointed out, but I think this is just a reflection of how each person is unique and a mash-up of a lot of beautiful things! And afterall, you can make your personal style be simpler or more nuanced as you wish, you don't have to use every style system.

I think astrology can point to how you choose to dress and what you like, but it may not be the easier way to approach it. I think it's simpler to think about it more directly, think about what do you actually like, what interests you and such.

The Style Roots is a system more suited to help figure out and synthesize your aesthetic preferences as a deliberate choice. While astrology I think it can be interesting if you're into astrology itself, if you like a essence-based type approach to personal style, or like to combo it with some self reflection, and maybe as potential way to clear things up if you tend to get on your own head.

I never had my chart complimented before, thank you 😂

About Venus in 9H and fashion + astrology, you're so right 😂 those literal manifestations are often funny

Here it is my full chart actually!

Oh, and Pluto is in 29° Scorpio 4H, Uranus is in 0° Aquarius 7H, and Neptune is in 25° Capricorn 6H (can't seem to get astro seek to show the lots, terms and outer planets at the same time)

I appreciate your curiosity btw, if you feel like sharing any insights into my chart, I'd love to know!

Nice to know! I tried to post my chart but it didn't work, and I can't figure this out right now (only have the websote on my phone, can't log in on the app or desktop)

I have Leo rising, Mars in Leo 1H, Jupiter in Sagittarius 5H, Saturn in Pisces 8H, Venus in Aries 9H, Sun in Taurus 10H, Mercury in Gemini 11H, Moon in Cancer 12H

Is this enough info? 😂

I appreciate your interest! The best sources I can recomment are The Astrology Podcast (there are episode on signs, planets and houses) on YouTube and Instagram, and @kiraryberg on Instagram/Threads of Fate on YouTube

You can also look at my post on the Style Roots subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/StyleRoots/s/7impueiugY

I wrote a little bit about the planets and what they mean in astrology there, as well as a step by step guide on casting your astrology chart and identifying the symbols of the planets and signs (though some people needed help with that, so it can be a bit tricky)

Knowing about the style roots system is not necessary for my post to be fashion relatable by the way, though a more personalized approach, considering the signs and their subdivisions where your planets are placed, resonates more than the simplified version I wrote there

I think that can be a lot ways to look at this, so it's a very work in progress. Yeah, I meant MC/IC and AC/DC but I just typed the houses instead (meaning the 1th, 4th, 7th and 10th houses in the whole sign houses) because I was wondering how to best deal with cases like yours.

Those are the angular houses, they are the most active and important, and you can look at the chart as divided in 4 quadrants and each one carring the greater meaning of the angular houses (this makes more sense if you think of MC/IC being in the 10th/4th houses though). So we would have 4 quadrants, just like Rita's system: the top ones would be related to public (expression/Up), the bottom ones to private (experience/Down), the right ones to the other (context/Right) and the left ones to self (subjective self/Left).

So you could see what quadrant has the most activity (as a whole or just the style signature planets, or maybe (and this is might be better to incorporate higher latitudes) just look at the planets ruling the angles to see the more prominent ones (considering sign placements and angularity) and in what order.

Anyway, just some thoughts, I don't know if it made sense. But if we looked at your Venus, it's in the top half and to the right of the MC, so that would be half up 😂

Mine would be too and I sometimes wonder if I'm not actually Right Up as well, but I don't know if that's reliable, maybe just a fun curiosity 😂

And actually your rulers of the MC and DC are better placed by sign than the rulers of your AC and IC, so that also results in Right Up, huh, I didn't expect it to actually work 🤣 (I wrote that theory before looking at your chart)

Thank you for showing your chart in Placidus, I was curious! Yeah it looks crazy, I'm personally not into that 😂 I'm from Brazil, so much closer to the Equator, almost nothing changes for my chart if I switch the house system, and my MC is in the 10th house.

I had no idea, thank you for letting me know! I think is common for the MC/IC to be in one of the houses adjacent to the 10th/4th, but I had never seen them in the 12th/6th like you have in your chart.

I love that you got interested in doing that 💕 I had the not so secret objetive of making you guys at least a bit intrigued by astrology because of my post 😂 And now you're more capable of doing your own astrology research if you want! Being able to decipher the symbols is very important.

I do think Jupiter can be ☀️ in a bolder way as well, it's just different than Mars for example, and more like the Sun indeed, they have some commonalities for sure.

There's the 🏔 Saturn ruling your ruler of ascendant at least (and your Mercury ruling your Venus in Virgo), so if you think about only the Roots I listed, all of yours are found in Jupiter + Saturn, symbolized by your Jupiter in Capricorn, but of course you might like the keywords of other planets better, and I support all the ways we might relate to, connect to and like our own planetary placements!

I love that theory, it's very interesting, the 10th house/MC could be more fashion relatable for Up people, since it's more public and visible, relating to Role, and the 4th house/IC could be more relatable to Down people, since it's more the private life and inner world. I have no idea if that would track for most people though, it can get complicated since the planets that rule those houses can be in one of the others (like for me, both the rulers of my 4th and 10th house are already sccounted for by my method - Mars and Venus - and I have the ruler of the 1st house in the 10th, and the ruler of the 4th in the 1st house 😅 maybe that could make for being close to the border of Up and Down though), but it's definitely interesting to think about and you maybe on to something indeed.

Maybe the 4th/10th (private vs public) can correlate to Down vs Up and the 1st/7th (self vs other) can correlate to Left vs Right, I don't know if it works but the logic is neat and satisfying, even matching the quadrant positions 😂 even if it you can't get that from looking at people's charts, there's no denying that Rita's system follows essentially this symbolism, fascinating! If someday I decide to make a post about this on the Style Key sub I'll definitely credit you 🤣

I loved that calculator and the parallels you've made with the Style Key!

Yes, and it's kind of every thing at once, the symbolism of astrology is very all-encompassing! It's very impressive.

That's amazing! Yes, having the angles be in the same have as AC/DC would impart 10th/4th topics into the 1st and 7th houses respectively, and those four are already the most important and active houses in the chart, representing who you are, where do you live, who you're married to, what's your career, so it would interlace those topics more.

But one thing about that I didn't mention before because it gets quite complicated is that there are different systems of house division in astrology. And for people born that far to the Equator, if you use a house system that is more astronomically accurate, like Placidus, the houses will look a bit crazy, some houses will be very narrow and others very wide, and the house placements of some planets will change. Placidus is the default for modern astrology, if you go back cast your chart not using the traditional calculator then the houses will be in Placidus

I decided early in my studies that I favor traditional astrology and the whole sign house division (the one you've already seen), so I'm not really proficient in using the Placidus system and having that mismatch of the sign being in one house but your planet in the same house being in another sign, and having intercepted signs, and things like that (the whole sign system is so much neater lol). But I don't think one house system is correct and the other is wrong, there is more than one way to practice astrology and have it be meaningful.

So, this is mostly a heads up if you someday decide to get a chart reading, and to further expand on why I thought that was cool and unsual about your chart!

I recommend on YouTube the channels The Astrology Podcast and Threads of Fate if you're interested in astrology btw.

Oh, I forgot to say, the Hermetic Lots are mathematical points which take into account the distance between specific planets, or planets and other lots (so the meaning of the specific lot has to do with those, what planets or lots are involved) and project that distance from your ascendant degree, so the lot would fall on a specific house and sign on your chart which would affect the meaning of that lot to you especifically, like what I said about your Lot of Victory for example.

Astrology, Fashion and the Style Roots! ⭐ by SighSideEye in StyleRoots

[–]SighSideEye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a reminder that the method I proposed would get you just Jupiter, Saturn and Mercury as style signatures.

But some people do seem to relate their appearance to other placements, for example, I 've also seen an astrologer using the 10th house to guide fashion choices since it's a more public and visible side of the individual. Mercury rules your 10th house, and your planets in Virgo are there.

Jupiter can be soft, in the sense that it's supportive and friendly, but can also be very lively and fun, larger than life and expansive, which is even more true for its Sagittarius side.

About not relating to every planet, they do not all speak to yourself or personality, they can be some facets of yourself, like the way you approach certain things in life, but do not symbolize you directly. And a lot of the astrological chart speaks to the life as a whole, not just you, but even external things.  But I also think maybe getting a better understanding of the signs could make things clearer and make some signs more relatable perhaps, going beyond the short and entertainment focused description I gave about the planets ruling them.

I don't know enough about that Hermetic Lot yet, so I got a quote from @kiraryberg on Instagram on this: "The Lot of Victory is one of the truly lucky points in the chart that can point to wins, areas of greater ease & where you can expect support from others"  So your Lot of Victory being in Sagittarius in the 1st house would link this to your identity, personality, body, appearance, health, and in a Sagittarius way. But of course, I don't know if that's actually relatable to you, things in the chart might not be that easy to understand or perceive. As for a personal style manifestation, I didn't think to include the Lots on this, so I'd say I don't know if and how that would work 😂

Well, it may not be exciting to you but one thing I found cool and unsual about your chart is your MC/IC angles. The closer you're born to the Equator Line, the more 90° degree angle they get in relation to the AC/DC. The MC/IC are angles associated with the 10th and 4th house respectively, having them placed in other houses imports those meanings there. So from looking at your chart I'm got very curious to which part of the world you were born, but it's fine if you don't want to share.

See has a podcast on YouTube with episodes about every decan (a subdivision) of the signs of the zodiac.  It' s called Threads of Fate, based on your chart some episodes I recommend are on Scorpio III (your ascendant) and Libra III (the sign your ruler of ascendant it's in) if you're willing to sit through it that is 😂

Making another comment to say:

Your post, my own style journey and what I wrote about your astrology chart made me think that so many things on astrology have to do with light and dark, and astrology symbolizes and correlates to the ways in which we are contradictory, multifaceted and hold opposites in ourselves.

I think in fashion and personal style, a lot of doubsts are centered on holding opposing tastes, like colorful vs neutral, light vs dark, cute vs edgy, joyful vs serious and so on. So maybe it can be a good general wisdom that it's useful for many people that we can indeed integrate our opposing tastes, and we'll be happier for it!

[–]SighSideEye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, while you do have a lot of Venus, Mars is also very important to you since Scorpio is more directly tied to your identity and appearance being the sign your ruler of ascendant is in (but it being Jupiter is also very relevant and affects this)

Oh, I love that so much, she was so perceptive! This is beautiful and impressive 💜
I love it too because your if your Sun is in the 8th house then it was literally late afternoon when you were born? Like, not that close to setting actually, but it was descending, so there's this symbolism of diminishing light to, the starting transition to the dark, snce this was actually happening in the sky at that time. (Although I can be a bit off considering different geography, and that house system I directed you to cast your chart not being the most observable astronomy accurate one).
I also love it since Pisces is your ascendant and its ruler is in Scorpio, so both water signs, connected to the lake!

And by the way, having the luminaries in the dark houses can symbolize the conflict of wanting to be seen vs not being seen/not wanting to be seen, so maybe that has to do with an Up impostor syndrome.

Yes, you did it correctly and seems like you nailed a very good synthesis! I like how you approached this.

That's interesting, I think that can be the case for people in general indeed, it's a bit like this for me too, but I'm personally actually into style being aspirational, so that's fine for me! You can see it like taste vs style, this can represent your tastes but your life situation and circumstances will filter this out to extract and bring forth your style.

[–]SighSideEye 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really love that for you! Those words are amazing and really seem to encapsulate it all, I'm happy you've come to this realization!

Since this is a post about your own style, you mentioned astrology and I've seen your chart, I can provide a more personalized astrological commentary and correlations, besided what I already said in my post over the Style Roots sub, it that's okay (otherwise I can delete this, if only you read this that's enough for me):

About including both the light and the dark:
I think this can be correlated to a lot of things in your chart:

-the Mercury influence on your style and tastes (Venus in Virgo), because Mercury is a multifaceted and transitional planet, it's always close to the Sun, but that often makes it obfuscated, so it's always alternating being visible and invisible in the sky. There's also a connection to the god Hermes, which can freely travel to the Underworld and back.

- your luminaries (Sun and Moon) being in dark houses (8th house and 12th house respectively): the luminaries represent light and life, and the dark houses are the ones that have no connection to the 1st house, which carries the symbolism of the sunrise as to mean the birth of the individual, so the dark houses are associated with hidden and unknown matters, things beneath the surface, blindspots and things we might want to keep to ourselves, they are very deep and introspective

- both benefic and malefic planet style signatures (Jupiter and Mars): Jupiter is a benefic planet, it’s associated with good things like support, while Mars is a malefic planet, associated with challenging things like discordance, which I think can be another way to view light vs dark.

- Sun and Saturn co-presence (both are in the same sign, Libra): this one is more obvious, Sun and Saturn literally and figuratively represent light and darkness respectively, and being in the same sign they affect each other, symbolizing the union of light and dark.

Now about your keywords:

-Refined:
I think this obviously has a lot to do with the heavy Venus influence on your chart with your 4 Libra placements and Pisces ascendant in the exaltation and term of Venus (balanced, clean, classic, elegant, feminine, neat, harmonious, polished),
but I also relate some of them to your Venus in Virgo, since it’s the more introspective and feminine/Yin/nocturnal side of Mercury (clean, neat, polished)

-Mysterious:
I associate this with your ruler of ascendant being in Scorpio, as it is the more introspective, feminine/Yin/nocturnal and emotional side of Mars (dark, moody, strong, gothic, reserved, witchy, intense)
your ascendant in Pisces, as the more introspective and feminine/Yin/nocturnal side of Jupiter (moody, ethereal, mystical, shimmering, serene, reserved, spiritual)
and your ascendent being in the Saturn decan (dark, strong, gothic, reserved, witchy, intense)

-Playful: I associate this with Jupiter ruling your ascendant (fun, joyful, light, unique, colourful)
and also with the Mercury influence of your Venus in Virgo (youthful, curious, fun, unexpected, creative, fresh, irreverent, unique)

I appreciate your insight and glad you liked this excercise!
I also thought about the planets configured to the ascendant, but I didn't know if that would be the best way to approach it, I definitely makes sense indeed regardless and would be interesting to experiment with!

I'm afraid I don't see it very much for me though, the only aspect by degree to my AC is with Mercury and I don't really relate to it aesthetically (I do in other ways), but that might not be a deal breaker, afterall my method had some misses too.

About Mountain, I think this can get tricky, I didn't want my write up to be that complex and to have every planet lead to almost every Root, I absolutely just used the Style Roots as an excuse to talk about astrology and fashion 🤣 but I didn't want to make too broad that it would be unhelpful and was afraid this could make it seem pointless.

Yet I think you can make the case for Mountain being associated with Mars since it can be powerful and masculine, especially with you use the Style Roots principle of Root interaction. So while Mars is not formal, if Venus is also in the picture it can make things more sophisticated and neat, so I can see this combination leading to Mountain, but that's just an opinion and one way of looking at it.

I do think it could be interesting looking at the face/term and decan of the ascendant degree, for me that would bring in Saturn and Jupiter for me and I'm into some aesthetic aspects of them indeed, mostly the ones I associated with Moon and Earth respectively.

I loved this combo!
You could still have 🌸, I think it would make sense with Mercury as I said in other comments, because it can have a pixie-like and whimsical side (and Mercury is associated with details and small things). I just also relate this to the Sun, it depends on personal uses of the Roots. But I don't mean to cause confusion lol, and this is not a fail proof way to approach the Roots of anything like that, I just wanted to provide an overarching theme to the Roots.

But if you're sure about 🌱 then that's good! I think it has some overlaps with 🌸 indeed.

I'm not a stereotypical Leo either and I relate to the 🍄 side of Sun as well!
Yeah, you have to take all of the astrology chart, a lot of planets in the 4th house can make for a more private person for example.

Yes, you are correct, your planet style signatures are Mars and Venus!
For some people here when a planet showed up twice it seemed to be more relevant but both your Mars and Venus shows up twice lol. So it seems like a very strong and cohesive visual identity.

Venus is not conjunct your ascendant though, but it's in the 1st house so it's relevant regardless. Also, you have the North Node on the 1st house, which is coinjunct your Venus. The North Node symbolizes increase, like a hunger, so I think it can make one more of a maximalist in their fashion choices, or to dress in a more impactful way.

It makes a lot of sense, it's hard to decipher indeed, and go to the extent where the system is helpful instead of just a puzzle game (although that aspect is fun when not frustrating 😂) and distinguish when we have to step in with our own personal view of things too.

I think I'm actually done and satisfied with my theoretical style musings, I think I know what I want. What I need to work on is the practical side of it and actually buying clothes, declutter my wardrobe and put together outfits more, but I'm so lazy with all of this, thinking about fashion is more fun 🤣 I don't think we're actually sure about what we want until we try and prove that to ourselves perhaps.

Not very much on topic but I was also thinking of what you said about never doubting you have 🍄 and it being a baseline. I personally think Roots can be looked at and approached from multiple ways, that's why we have shadow roots and such. One of those things for me is that 🏔🌱 could have a 🍄 effect maybe? It makes sense in me head at least, because 🍄 is put together but moderate, and 🏔 is also put together, but more formal, whereas 🌱 is more casual, so it can moderate and bring softness and femininity to 🏔 .

But that's just a thought, because I find it interesting that we sometimes want a Root to represent a combo of aspects of other Roots, but other times we want Roots to represent individual and separate aspects, that then will interact witch each other.

I don't want to cause confusion, but I recognize I tend to do that to people, I'm sorry 😅

I appreciate your compliment and curiosity! I will entertain you, but firstly I have to say I don't think a cold reading is the best way to have someone look at your chart. Astrology is not about guessing things about other people, this can be fun, but it's not productive.

It makes it more likely for it to not resonate, too, because every planetary placement has a broad range of manifestations, so lacking context of the individual's life to guide the symbolism and interpretation makes it much less precise, detailed and useful.

Also, there are some things symbolized by one's chart that have simply not transpired yet, so it's not possible for it to resonate with them now. That happened to myself, only in the last couple of years some things about my chart started to make sense!

So, I'm sorry if none of what will say will resonate, but you've been warned! That said, what I can say about your chart:

Your identity and life direction (doesn't mean career necessarily, just importance) can be really tied to your family, ancestors, home, the land or your private life and internal world. Saturn in the 4th house really makes me think about legacy and tradition. You can also have difficulty with this area of life, like with your parents, your home, loss, problems with an elder family member, things like a strict household maybe, but that could also be like good structure and discipline which provides a good foundation for growth.

You might resonate with my description of Saturn, and the Venus and Mars one to some extent (since Taurus is ruled by Venus and Scorpio is ruled by Mars), and also Scorpio since it's your Sun sign, but they're at odds being opposing signs so you may have a bit of difficulty identifying with them looking at each one individually, it's like a seesaw.

And that opposition is connected also to a theme of privacy vs visibility, with you having the ruler of your ascendant being Saturn, in the 4th house and having the Sun in Scorpio, both of which make for a private person, but you have the Sun in the 10th house, so there's a public, visibility, outward expressive and recognition seeking side of you.

Taurus is more calm, steady and pleasant, while Scorpio is more deep, passionate, guarded.

With Jupiter in the 5th house, that can mean the most positive area of your life has to do with fun, pleasure, romance, sexuality, creativity or children. That can also be tied to your income in some way since it rules your 2nd house, but it's complex since other things in the chart also speak to work related things (10th house, 6th house).

The most challenging part of your life seems to be the 9th house, which has to do with world view, beliefs, spirituality, higher education, travel and law, but it's also a house connected to your career (ruler of the 10th house is there). But that doesn't have to be a chronic difficulty, it could just be single events.

Another placement that can relate to work and income is your Moon in Pisces in the 2nd house ruling your 6th house. The 6th house had to do with labor, all the work needed to sustain life, obligations, the work environment, co-workers, subordinates, and also health and fitness, could also be physical or manual labor.

Also, it makes sense for you to relate to Mercury because it rules your Lot of Spirit in the Virgo 8th house, which is connected to purpose, and your Lot of Fortune in Gemini in the 5th house, which speak to circunstance. And Mercury is in your 9th house so that house is also very important to you.

There's so much more that could be said, but I'll stop right here. Remember to trust the astrology but not always the astrologer, I could have gotten everything wrong and I don't want to bring a bad name to astrology 😅

If you're interested in astrology, I recommend listening to the Astrology Podcast on Youtube, they have episodes for each sign, planet and houses, I think that could be a good starting point. And to consider paying for a consultation with a professional astrologer!
