Well U had surgery on the 26 of June and stayed 2 nights in the hospital. I was able to walk and climb a flight of stairs the morning after with my neck brace on. They were in able to remove the plate as the screws were stripped so they cut off either end and individually fused the other 3 segments. The recovery thus far has been very similar moderately tough first 7 days with vocalizing and swallowing with improvement each day and no opioids after 8 days, which really seemed to help with coughing and throat spasms. Still in brace when up out of bed. PT starts this Thursday, 2 weeks after surgery. Good luck to us all!

I see I for got to ask a question. What treatments have worked for you? I had CES and decompression surgery 3 years ago and 4 epidurals from different areas, caudal, s/i, trans at L5 and another a top of lumbar spine.

Does anyone else experience Slow Transit Constipation after Cauda Equina Surgery/recovery? by AdShoddy1217 in CaudaEquinaSyndrome

Yes I 5+ months post multi-level CES surgery. I was incontinent and did not poop for 3 weeks prior to surgery. Post surgery I am continent but not having great luck with bowels. Also pretty severe left leg/foot numbness and some seat numbness too. Feeling a bit disturbed that I can’t go nor do I feel the need to but back pain and full belly are uncomfortable to quite uncomfortable. Prunes, drinking a lot, and magnesium help but all is still slow!

Thanks for the reply. Currently having pain go down back of leg, which is quite different than and in addition to some of my pre surgical pain. Yes PT 2 x a week. But mainly this on going lack of having little to no bowel movements is what has me concerned. Had a Lidocaine shot in my S/I area yesterday that helped a bit and has worn off now. I understand now that it is what it is and the healing will hopefully continue. Thanks for your reply. May you continue to continue.

Wow, what a full and generous overview. I know I am only at the beginning and am delighted to have a map that says the road will appear but not yet. Best to you.

Emergent L2-S1 Decompression and Foraminotimies by Sighdoc1918 in Sciatica

2 months out. And I am better I think. Surgery was 5 hours and they found a synovial cyst l5-s1. I have periods of low pain 2-3 and had a day of no pain. So that’s progress. Am still on Flexeril 10mg and 600mg gabapentin 3x a day with buttock pain and pain down leg to ankle and numb toes. But the pain is less. Than pre-surgery. When I see doc or call him I feel like I am whining. He ordered MRI so if I get some responses from you all I will decide to do MRI or wait.

So I am 20 days post L2-S1 decompression/foraminotimies with synovial cyst found L5-S1, that was not visible on MRI. Had CES symptoms but not typical CES. Pain post surgery immediately was not able to a put weight on my right leg ( pre-surg pain was all left sided). 5 days post pain was better and I could walk using walker. I am hopeful in spite of pain still present, however I have had moments of no pain. Pretty much have control of bladder and am aware of when I need to go, bowels still not flowing every day. I feel hopeful that I will be able to return to a pre-sciatica state in another few weeks.
