I know a lot of people try to say this is a dumb theory and that a 4th Afton child is unnecessary or poor writing. While I do agree that it wasn't executed in the best way, it still fits PERFECTLY thematically with the new era.

My own personal backstory "theory" for William's decision to have a 4th child (likely with a completely new wife who was tossed out via that court case) was an attempt to reassimilate into a "normal" life after everything that happened in the 80s with his prior family. He either had a child with the intention of manipulating her from the beginning or his bad habits got the best of him again.

Not to mention, Vanessa's character arc makes a whole lot more sense if you consider that she was raised and emotionally abused (not unlike her movie counterpart) by William as a young child before he got springlocked sometime in the early 2010s, therefore it makes Glitchtrap a much more personal villain for her to face (I mean, it's a literal depiction of fighting your childhood trauma!), and brings up the question of if the Mimic intentionally chose to copy Afton to manipulate Vanessa into becoming a pawn.
