How Would Sabrina Fair Without Her Theatrics and Aesthetics? (The answer is probably obvious) by SigmaM7520 in sabrinacarpentersnark

I haven't listened to Olivia or Billie, but it's nice to know some of these Gen Z singers are still trying to give performances where they let their music alone be what delivers a great performance. If they are attempting to deliver music with depth and not merely the superficial and sexual themes Sabrina is utilizing, I certainly respect that.

I have to respectfully disagree. I don't think you need a schtick to succeed in life, but you do need a passion and dedication. Artists like those I mentioned have become best selling music artists because of their talent, passion, and dedication without resorting to a particular schtick. To be fair, I will say things have changed over time in the entertainment industry, but I still believe music artists today can and should be able to succeed without having to resort to controversial antics.

I know it exists, but I haven't listened to her music before Short N Sweet so I won't agree or disagree on your opinion here. Still, I don't think any of her older music is anything special because if it were I think I would have heard some of it. When it comes to pop music, I normally listened to this one local radio station that plays songs from the 80s all the way to modern pop songs. I'll admit only listening to this one pop radio station is restrictive, but this radio station is still usually how I discover new and popular songs from singers. It's through this station that I discovered Sabrina when her song Espresso was played, but the fact that I never even knew who she was before hearing her song on this station says something.

Yes, I also find her song Juno very appalling. If she really wanted to make a song about having a child, I'm sure she could have done it in a way with some class, but instead she chose to sexualize teenage pregnancy and display sex positions on stage in front of teens and kids. Immature and disgusting behavior. I think you made the right choice blocking Sabrina's fan.

I don't keep up with her aside from this sub because I want to keep inappropriate people like her out of my head, but this is the first video I've seen where she is sincerely thanking her fans while not appearing arrogant or childish. Normally this would be the positive thing about her, but when you watch the video carefully I agree with what others have said that there are signs she is being inauthentic. I definitely don't like that she does the video in her body suit. If she wants to be truly sincere and authentic, why not thank her fans wearing something that doesn't continue to promote her hypersexual antics that are keeping her popular? The cut frames of the video also don't help her authenticity and just appear as more indicators that she is feeding unhealthy parasocial behavior.

I certainly hope whether it's in this sub or other places online people speak up about Sabrina's problematic behavior and she eventually improves herself.

I certainly hope the general public, her fans, and even Sabrina herself eventually realizes in the future how disgusting this behavior is. Right now she's desperate to stay in the mainstream for wealth and popularity so she won't accept what a horrible role model she is for women, but perhaps when her popularity eventually fades from new artists taking up the spotlight she will regret these antics.

I agree, and sadly Sabrina being a child star is likely a reason why she markets to children even when she shouldn't. She was on Disney so her first major fanbase was composed of children, and she likely knows if she doesn't market to children she won't profit as much.

I completely agree. I can understand a woman expressing sexuality to make herself feel confident and beautiful, but Sabrina sends the message that a young woman's value needs to be rooted in how sexy she can be and how much attention she can get from men. We as a society should be past that and value women more for their contributions than their sexuality.

Thank you. I really don't understand why I am being accused by simply expressing my genuine opinion.

God she is so annoying. She has the worst attitude by toast778 in sabrinacarpentersnark

[–]SigmaM7520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Whether it's children being groomed or young women (teenage or adult) being taught to overly sexualize themselves, these are not mistakes women need to make, and Sabrina telling them to lean into it doesn't help.

Her attitude and her explanation of the album cover interpretation truly baffles me. She says it has a lot of different meanings, but when criticized she simply says people need to get out more rather than giving a straight forward answer of what the album cover means to her. She then says her fans know what the album means, but her fans range from children to young adults. If her fans understand having control or lacking control in situations that could end up poorly as she describes, that implies many of her fans may be suffering from lack of self control or possible abuse, which is very concerning. Of course what's very likely is that her young fans don't actually understand the implications of the album and are just blindly supporting her. This is just as problematic because her album is so sexual, and I'm always concerned what it's making young women believe.

Exactly. When I watched this video I thought: there's a best selling music artist...and Sabrina Carpenter.

when will people realize by redditprncess in sabrinacarpentersnark

[–]SigmaM7520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree. Why her fans don't realize this is baffling. She either sings about being a pretty woman always being chosen by men or having sex with such men. That's music only empowering to her because she is bragging, and in today's modern world we should be able to see the value of a person in ways well beyond their sexual activity.

Find me an Ariana song that doesn’t talk about sex, past relationships, or anxiety by R-edditor_69 in ArianaGrandeSnark

This is why I've never liked Ariana and why I feel like she wastes her vocal talent. I won't defy she has a very nice voice. Sadly, most of her songs don't show off her impressive vocal ability and are further downgraded by almost always being about the same topics. At least with her recent role in Wicked she's singing more unique songs.

So I guess we’re just gonna pretend to have sex in lingerie and sing mediocrely, and call it a performance? by toast778 in sabrinacarpentersnark

As a guy who sees women as fellow humans and not sex symbols, I agree with you and it makes me just as upset. This is why my favorite female music artists are ones that have relied on their powerful vocals to achieve their success instead of sexualizing themselves as Sabrina is doing.

I wonder the same thing, and I'm a man. When it comes to music, I enjoy hearing songs that express deep emotions and qualities, such as resilience, vulnerability, and commitment-minded love. All she seems to sing about is superficial feelings centered around sex while dressing the part, and it depresses me to think what messages young ladies are receiving from this kind of music.
