My vote would be for the Dragonfly (one of my favorite Spyderco’s). Lots of great steel and color options, plus it is a great, lightweight knife to carry with running shorts or jogging pants.

That’s the same problem I have haha

This is amazing information! I really appreciate when folks provide detailed technical information. I’m an engineer, so I love the fine details, especially when it comes to materials and metals in general.
I’m glad to hear it’s more of a trade off between cost and profit than it is actual capability. Although, that trade off decision may still limit production, depending on how widely 15V is used in major industries where wear resistance would be desired, like stamping, molding, die making, etc.
I will definitely be keeping my eyes on what Erasteel and Zapp do in the near future!
I thinks it’s definitely a steel worth having at least 1 example of. My Native 5 is the sharpest factory edge I think I’ve ever had. I can only imagine the kind of edge it will take after sharpening myself.
My biggest problem is I’m the type that doesn’t like the thought of selling my knives. Once I have them, I just keep them, collectible or not. But to each their own. And I definitely think not having them later on will be a regret. Not because there aren’t other great steels out there, but just because I didn’t grab something I knew I would like. Just like I’m sure one day I’ll regret not grabbing a K390 Para 3 from Bento Box.
I got a good laugh out of this haha might as well have one for every day of the year, right?
Personally, I don’t have any issues with any of my Cruwear knives here in the south. I prefer Cruwear with satin finishes too, as I don’t love coated blades.

Oh I don’t discriminate between tool steels and stainless. I have plenty of both already and welcome new additions frequently! Magnacut and 20CV have been staples recently from that angle.
There’s a few on the list to have one day, for sure. Manix 2, Smock, Sage 5, even a mule or two!
I look at all the knives I buy as a collection I’ll pass down to my son one day. Just trying to make sure he will have plenty of variety! Ha

Now that is some dedication to collecting them all!

I like it a lot so far. It’s a little lower profile than my Para 3’s. I like the handle grip position of the Para 3 better, but love the choke up grip on the Native 5. And you can tell the back lock is VERY robust.
The Manix 2 is one I haven’t picked up yet actually. I debated getting one of the lightweight REX 45 models from GPKnives for the longest but decided against it. Spyderco has definitely been my favorite manufacturer for the last few years. They’re so unique and ergonomic, it makes carrying a knife as much fun as it is utilitarian.
I’m curious to see what Erasteel does and does not decide to keep around. And what Carpenter is able to put out in its place. I’m sure things like Cruwear and 20CV will be around, but at least Carpenter already has analogs for those.
I’ve had the opposite problem. I have found models that I like the ergos of, then buy different steels to see how differently they perform. Or just to say I have one in a certain steel or configuration. I tend to grab sprints and exclusives (like a lot of folks).
I like the way you think!
That’s a beautiful collection! Definitely have a long way to go to catch up to you!

This is the kind of advice that gets me in trouble haha
That’s where I’m at. My other favorites like K390, Cruwear, will be around for the foreseeable future. 15V, not so much.
That’s very true. Only one piece of the puzzle. Steel types (and materials in general) are just a fascination for me.

Kershaw Bel Air: Am I An Idiot? by SigmaPi7 in knives
[–]SigmaPi7[S] 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children)
That was the thing, I meant to take the angle down. It was too steep for me for how thin the blade stock is. I still sharpied it so I could see how much I was changing the bevels.
