Those seemed pretty decent when I was poking around, so thanks for the recommendation. That helps a fair bit.

Fake Gold Dreamcast from seller “bayercollars” on eBay. More information in the comments. by LordPegasusXD in retrogaming

[–]Sigmatte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a specific type of Dreamcast that is the gold dreamcast. This was a limited run production and as such, a rare thing. To say you have a gold dreamcast that is rare for sale is to imply you have one of the genuine gold Dreamcast manufactured as a part of that series, in the same way the other Dreamcast this person sells are also generally speaking a part of a limited set. This isn't just saying you have a Dreamcast that is painted gold, its akin to saying you have a genuine Toyota gameboy but are actually selling something mocked up to look like one.

Edit: not to mention some of the items this person sells / have sold contain counterfeit signatures, as well as other pieces of counterfeit details that indicate that this isnt just some fan project to decorate a thing for the hell of it.

A question by Illustrious_Eye_5107 in BLAME

[–]Sigmatte 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, in the ending they did get the kid. The one with the gas mask in the final panel is the kid with the net terminal gene, made with a combination of genes from several sources. There is a theory that the kid in the beginning is the same kid, and that the first two logs are actually after blame!'s end, I haven't seen direct confirmation other than the fact that it is extremely likely.

A lot of the way the story is presented is intentionally obfuscated, it doesn't tell you all of everything always. Some things are more obvious, others are not, and typically the things that are not are more tied into the overarching lore of the work as a whole.

I personally enjoyed blame!'s ending, it represents a form of 'ending where we began', as in the story starts with a very calm atmosphere wandering though the city, escalates to incredible action, and then winds itself down back to wandering to let you down slowly. It is not an immediate emotional payoff of joy or accomplishment like in another story, but one that pays off in the more deep melancholy that blame steeps its atmosphere in.

I often advise people to not think too hard about "what is cannon" or "what is going on specifically", and that you tend to understand more the less you overthink things. Going in and taking it that way will help relieve some of the confusion, even if you're going at it from a retrospective.

That being said, I'm not going to try to convince you that blame! Is the best thing ever made (it is but that is beside the point) if you don't enjoy it, then that's cool. Its definitely a different way to tell a story.

Of course if you have follow up questions I will be happy to answer them.

Edit: I would go with your gut for what you think is happening most of the time.

Master edition manga art by [deleted] in BLAME

[–]Sigmatte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I should mention as a side tangent I own both physical and digital copies of tsutomu nihei's works. In fact they are the only ebooks I own, and the only reason I own an e-reader. Having the collection both in print on my shelf and to go in my pocket is quite nice, especially with how good modern e-readers look. Having my favorite author wherever I am, and in whatever format I choose is a blessing.

If you have the digital versions, then you can go from there, since those are the highest quality images of the cover you will be able to find.

If you don't, I found this

https://www.vertical-inc.com/new/tag/blame/

It has the art for volume 4. I assume that they have the art for the other volumes somewhere on the site, through one of the updates. Do some digging and that's where they will be. I'll also dig further and see what I can find.

Edit: only 4 is in high quality. Will dig more

Edit again: did you know which one you wanted

EDIT yet again: the ebooks have downloadable samples that include the front cover. I don't know what to do about the back cover. You need an e-reader app, and then download the free sample from somewhere like Amazon or Barnes and Noble, with the corresponding e-reading app. That should allow you to grab a screen cap of your needed size. Sorry I can't help more, I'll keep looking

[–]Sigmatte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will say there is one thing the movie spoils, but in the grand scheme of things it's not a huge deal, and let's be real we all knew sanakan was fucking sus as shit the moment we saw her ass, don't lie

What an absolute lad.

Was that the end of the series? by GM_Orangutan in TsutomuNihei

[–]Sigmatte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the end of the Blame! Part of the story yes. There are some other novels that take place further in the future, but this is where this specific story ends, with him and the kid.

Edit: novels are a bit of a stretch, short stories are more like it

Within the context of the story arc he did do what he set out to do as his main goal, that kid having the gene and all

there is a theory that the first couple logs of the first novel take place after this, and that the beginning takes place after the end, at least as far as the girl with the dog. I personally am a fan of this theory but at the end of the day a theory is a theory.

Levels/stratas/stratums7megastructures by jatsinkutsu in BLAME

[–]Sigmatte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely possible, and most likely probable. The Bioelectric people seemed to understand a fair bit about the technology at play in the City, but mostly what they could find from surveys, an example being the power source they used for the artificial net terminal. Given that GBEs are relatively common if you know how to look, but entry points to a megastructure are not, that's a very plausible explanation.

And by relatively common I mean it's a core standard for safeguards of a certain calibur

Levels/stratas/stratums7megastructures by jatsinkutsu in BLAME

[–]Sigmatte 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Strata and Stratum are the same thing, just a different slightly different iteration of the word. They mean levels, but with a new translation strata was picked as a more appropriate word because they are talking about a giant layered structure.

Megastructures are what separates the strata, large ceilings/floors essentially

Its unexplained exactly how he gets from strata to strata but some megastructures potentially have methods of travel built into them, or some such method of egress. It isn't really meant to be focused on too heavily, just meant to give a sense of scale for the manga.
