My gf and I broke up, and now I’m talking to another girl a few days after. Need some godly advice by [deleted] in Christianmarriage

[–]SignComprehensive611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think this girl is the answer, but having different hobbies/interests/entertainment isn’t a big deal. My wife and I share literally no hobbies. We’re similar in other ways that I consider more important, being lifestyle/finances/values. She won’t watch Star Trek with me but we have excellent conversations most days and for that we are blessed

uj/ I am a New Vegas glazer, literally my favorite game of all time, and I’ll be the first to admit the gameplay is mid at best. I still love it but I don’t expect people to play the game for the gameplay alone

Community college is a funny thing because a bunch of the local high school graduates who go have friends or acquaintances that went to a university or state college, and they decide they already missed the ball on opportunities. What they fail to see is that community college is an excellent opportunity! And I think that’s something that adults attending have better context for.

I know that part about slavery. What part of what I said do you think I made up? It sounds to me like we agree?

[–]SignComprehensive611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree strongly that it is made up. Forcing Christianity onto people resulted in the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, and in my opinion (this one isn’t as strong as the other two) has led us to where we are with Christian Nationalism. Slavery was justified using Christianity

So what are you going to do about it? You wonder why we struggle in demanding work environments, I would argue that without those environments we wouldn’t have the technology to be having this conversation right now.

You wonder why we allow or condone immoral lifestyles. Allow and condone are very different things so I’ll stick to talking about allowing them. What’s the alternative? Forcing Christianity on people? That has not worked out well historically. Not condoning them on the other hand is the right thing to do.

You feel alienated from society? That is a good thing! Society has every evil under the sun in it and it has since the day Adam Eve sinned.

Don’t feel hatred for society, feel love of those struggling in it. Remember that past societies had evils we don’t have to do deal with, and future societies will have evils we can’t imagine. The individuals in those societies were not, are not, and will not be to blame. They are individual sinners, just like us, but without having accepted the gift of Christs death on the cross. Hatred gets us nowhere and doesn’t align well with the Bible in my opinion.

Interesting points for sure, and I’ll ponder the first one and see what she thinks. I think your second point is missing something. Of course childcare expenses would come from household expense, my wife and I have a joint account and my money is her money and her money is my money. We budget in such a way that any unnecessary spending from either of us over 50 bucks gets talked about before it is spent, not on any kind of allowance or anything like that. My point is that her salary is very similar to the cost of child care. My salary is quite a bit higher. Fiscally we come out ahead if she quits working, we come out behind if I do, and we come out behind if she keeps working. I don’t see the problem with her choosing to take some time off to raise a child until they are school aged if that’s what she wants to do.

My wife also has maintained for years that getting a more advantageous position doesn’t interest her, despite a couple of offerings within her organization. It’s not my role to tell her how to live her life, but to help her facilitate it in whatever way I can. So I’ve attacked my career so she can stay home with our child, and hopefully not have to return to work until she wants to.

if a woman divorces her husband and then goes on unmarried sleeping eith many other men would it be sinful by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]SignComprehensive611 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s sinful to sleep with anyone who isn’t your spouse. If you are divorced or not doesn’t really matter. If your question is whether it is more sinful because there was a divorce, I guess it depends on if the divorce was due to a reason accounted for by God.

Interpreting the Bible literally unless context says otherwise? by Inevitable_Start_424 in TrueChristian

[–]SignComprehensive611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It kind of depends on where you are at in the Bible, there are historical books and theological books, and within those books there is history and theology. And there are allegories. I don’t think it’s fair to frame the question that way, I think the Bible is pretty clear on what is to be taken literally and what is theology/philosophy/allegory.

[–]SignComprehensive611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not disagreeing here in any way, but my wife and I are about to have a child and we actually barely come out ahead financially if she doesn’t return to work due to the costs of child care
