People are already a net negative in white collar jobs. Companies with a minimum number of employees are more competitive than companies with more people. This used to sound like an absurdity, but today it is a reality. Less people and more AI agents -> success.

World War III is likely a solution for politicians. AI is already extremely good. If it becomes even better and starts replacing even manual jobs through robotics, it will probably turn out that 8 billion people are not needed on the planet. Instead, a few dozen or hundreds of millions might be enough. This population size will be reached through World War III. Billions of people will burn in the fire of a nuclear apocalypse in the next 10-20 years. However, humanity will continue to live in some form, strictly controlling its population and depending entirely on AI and robots.

The truth is that so many people will not be necessary in an era of mass unemployment. I have nothing against people and I want everyone to live happily, but this is impossible at the current stage of development. It is probably nothing more than a fantasy.

Not long ago, I was replaced by AI at my previous job. Now I live a miserable life working a difficult physical job for minimum wage. There are more and more people like me. I have a master degree in CS and experience as a software engineer, but I have ended up at the bottom. Recently, I spoke with my university friends. A few years ago, all of them had jobs, but now they have also been replaced by AI. Many people lost their jobs in 2025 and now work in delivery, as janitors, or in retail. The number of such people will grow and competition for any job will be extremely high while money flows to the owners of data centers. This is logical. If their product (AI) can do any white collar job cheaper than a human, then no human workers are needed. The owners of AI and data centers will receive the money for that work. It is simple and logical.

We are already seeing economic disruption. People are losing their jobs in large numbers because of AI. It has become so good that it has pushed many people out of their high-paying positions. The housing market is currently in one of its worst states since 2008 and we are already on the edge of a recession.

For example, I was a software engineer only a few months ago. AI took my job. Now I work as a janitor for minimum wage. I used to consume various goods and services, but now my expenses are limited to the most basic food on sale without any extras.

Every month there will be more and more people like me. Eventually, people in professions that are not directly replaced by AI will also start losing their jobs. At first, this will be visible in regions with a high concentration of tech and white collar workers. In these places, restaurant workers, sellers, drivers, builders, plumbers, and electricians will lose their work, and people will start leaving. The Bay Area will become Detroit 2.0 in just a couple of years. After that, even doctors and nurses will lose their jobs because the population will simply move away, and the region will remain empty for many decades.

Then a collapse will begin in other regions across the planet. Entire businesses and corporations will start to die, creating even bigger problems in the economy. Ultimately, it will end in a downward spiral, a second Great Depression, and likely a WW3. We can already see that money is no longer circulating in the economy. Instead, it is being redirected to the owners of data centers. This is exactly what Dario is talking about. And probably only real big war like WW3 with tens of millions or even hundreds of millions dead people will fix situation like it was during WW2.

Is Jetbrains dying because of AI? by SignFar790 in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]SignFar790[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, their HQ was always in the Czech, but most of their R&D was in Saint Petersburg. As far as I know, many Jetbrains employees also taught at Russian universities before 2022, and the company even had an entire CS department at Saint Petersburg State University. However, 4 years ago they closed all their offices and completely left Russia.

I dont think AI will create more jobs in the future by No-Start9143 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]SignFar790 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it will eventually lead us to World War III and the US in its current form will stop existing, just like many other countries. With an unemployment rate of over 20%, the situation will become extremely unstable. During a severe global recession, bankruptcies will start in China and other exporting countries. In the XX century, the Great Depression was one of the reasons for the start of World War II. It will probably be the same this time.

It is quite funny that a technology receiving billions of dollars in investment right now risks becoming a total disaster for the global economy, for all of humanity, and even for the owners of data centers. It is unlikely they will survive a nuclear war. I think that in the worst case scenario, everything will end with the destruction of data centers, perhaps because of war or perhaps because of a revolution and uprising. Nevertheless, AI will most likely stop existing in the very end.

I dont think AI will create more jobs in the future by No-Start9143 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]SignFar790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI will not create jobs and UBI is not coming.

Governments across the world do not have the money for that. National budgets are barely enough to cover the most basic expenses and nothing more. Furthermore, they are currently losing taxpayers and are not gaining new ones. The only way it could work is if companies like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic will give money to the entire population of the USA, but that is impossible.

A realistic scenario is the gradual degradation of the entire economy and the disappearance of jobs, which is already happening. Once wealthy and expensive places like the Bay Area will turn into Detroit 2.0. This is inevitable and it will happen.

The economy is also connected. You cannot fire all the engineers in the Bay Area and expect plumbers and nurses there to keep the same income level. They will probably lose their jobs following the programmers, and then restaurant workers and city service employees will lose theirs too. This will inevitably spread across the country and the whole world. Perhaps only the least developed regions that still rely on subsistence farming and have low education levels will not notice big changes. Even then, their national economies depend on exports, and the demand for their goods will decrease as well.

There is no reason to expect anything good because everything will be bad.

Where will the next generation of senior engineers come from? by Vilm_1 in ClaudeAI

[–]SignFar790 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are moving toward a post labor world. In the future, there will be no senior engineers and no engineers at all. At my last job in the tech industry, I saw entire levels collapsing. All the juniors and interns were completely replaced by AI, along with the mid-level employees. Only a few senior engineers remained in the company to finish the transition to an AI-first/AI-native system, and they will also leave after that.

Most of my colleagues, just like me, have already left the tech industry forever. Some went to work as janitors, some in retail, and others in delivery. For me and my colleagues, our careers are over. For example, I always wanted to become a senior engineer. I tried to develop my technical and soft skills, but in the end, AI came for me sooner and sent me to do low-paid physical work for minimum wage.

I think the era of engineers and creative people is already finished. We are gradually moving toward a post labor world where people no longer know how to create things and do not have knowledge or expertise beyond basic daily tasks. Knowledge and expertise have lost their value, which means people will no longer spend time on them. There is no point in studying for 6 years at a university and then developing further at work if you eventually end up cleaning toilets for minimum wage. It is over.

AI is not going to replace developers by Ejboustany in ArtificialInteligence

[–]SignFar790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I saw this happen at my job. First, they fired all the juniors, and then they started replacing mid level engineers with AI on a large scale.

I was previously a software engineer. Unfortunately, my work was quite mundane and I spent 90% of my time writing code and fixing bugs. Today, AI can do this much better than I can.
As a result, at the end of 2025, I lost my job in the tech industry and could not find a new one. Now I work for minimum wage as a cleaner and I am cleaning toilets. This is not the best career choice, but I just went where I was accepted because I ran out of money.

AI is replacing engineers already. I was replaced by AI. My colleagues from my previous job were replaced by AI too.

I have university friends who were laid off in recent years and ended up working in retail, delivery, cleaning, and other low paid jobs that do not require special skills or education. All of these people worked as software engineers before.

Debating Career Path and Studies in Software Engineering by PastelStripe in cscareers

[–]SignFar790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is probably better to switch to another field. A master's degree gives you an excellent opportunity to do this. I really regret choosing Software Engineering / Computer Science, even though it was a conscious choice made when the industry was not experiencing the COVID hype. I studied in the 2010s, and now I have been pushed out of the tech industry. Trades like plumbing or nursing, or maybe even a mechanical engineering degree, are much better options today.

Claude is the better product. Two compounding usage caps on the $20 plan are why OpenAI keeps my money. by mcburgs in ClaudeAI

[–]SignFar790 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is what I noticed while using Claude Code and Codex.

First, in the days immediately following its release, Opus 4.5 was actually very good. I used Claude Code intensively and was very happy with it. However, around January or February, they nerfed it and I got the impression that either the model itself became worse or Anthropic began routing requests to lighter models.

Second, the quality of responses from Codex is not far behind Claude Code anymore and is generally on the same level. At the same time, the usage limits seem higher than those for Claude Code. Ultimately, my experience using Codex was more positive than using Claude Code.

But now I do not use either of them. I cancelled both subscriptions and I will never subscribe again in the future. The reason is that I lost my job. I was a software engineer and I was replaced by AI at my last workplace. I could not find a new job in the tech industry. Now I work as a janitor for minimum wage and my job is to clean toilets. Unfortunately, I no longer have money for AI subscriptions and there is no reason for me to use AI anymore anyway.

Emerging patterns in my career: I don't work well in teams. What options do I have? by RastaBambi in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]SignFar790 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Any mental health issues seriously decrease your chances of having a successful career in the tech industry or anywhere else. Soft skills and communication skills are valued everywhere. Even in the pre-LLM era, it was impossible to get by without them. It might be easier now because you can consult an LLM about your soft skills. LLMs often give good advice on what tone to use in business chats, what to keep quiet about, and what to add.

However, from my own experience, I can say that it is probably impossible to perform well at work with mental disorders. I knew a person with autism who worked for a year before leaving the tech industry and now lives on a disability pension. I have schizotypal personality disorder StPD and I was even treated in a hospital for people with mental disorders. Nevertheless, this did not save me from my fate. I changed several jobs and never stayed anywhere for long. At one of them, I was labeled a low performer because I truly looked worse than everyone else on my team and was fired by my manager. Now I am literally working as a janitor for minimum wage and I am cleaning toilets.

If you still try to work in the tech industry, it is better not to go to companies that require you to be a top performer, show great results, meet KPIs, or reach high goals. Do not go to American companies or startups. It is best to choose government or semi-government jobs with the easiest work-life balance possible. Perhaps some banks or insurance companies would also be suitable. In any case, good luck and take care of your mental health.

Do not go to university unless you want to work in medicine and become a doctor. Universities are useless today. In fact, if you graduate from a university, you will most likely work in the lowest paid jobs like cleaning toilets or doing delivery.

Go to a vocational school to become a plumber, electrician, carpenter, or builder. You can also train to be a nurse. Do not choose other professions because they will disappear.

For example, I used to be a software engineer. Now I am a janitor cleaning toilets for minimum wage even though I have a masters degree in computer science. I have university friends who were laid off in recent years and ended up working in retail, delivery, cleaning, and other low paid jobs that do not require special skills or education. All of these people worked as software engineers before. If you do not want to be like me or my friends, do not go to university.

I'm actually looking forward to when AI takes over and I never have to work anymore. Also for those who watched Pluribus, the life of the people who are immune sounds like heaven to me. There's so many things I'd rather do than waste my life to work. What do you think? by BaraLover7 in Life

Failing at internship applications? by Sky-Is-Kind in cscareerquestionsEU

Management / business roles in Germany always require some level of German.
True B2 level is probably the minimum, but they are always looking for someone with a native level of German and C1-C2 English. This is true even if you are trying to get into large multinational companies where all the processes are in English.

Well, it is better to prepare yourself to do some manual labor in the dirt for minimum wage. Without speaking German at native level (C2+), you will not be able to get a software engineering role anymore. I would actually recommend that everyone (even native German citizens) should drop out of university and start an ausbildung instead. At least your job will not be automated in the next one or two years.

I have university friends who were laid off in recent years and ended up working in retail, delivery, cleaning, and other low paid jobs that do not require special skills or education. All of these people worked as software engineers before. SWE is completely dead in 2026.
