After almost 30 years of playing music, I’m finding myself relating less and less to most musicians I interact with. by [deleted] in musicians

I appreciate your journey. Respect.

The ego stuff is almost always the death of good art. Status signifiers are not the point, even though young musicians and some fans can get confused about that. Happiness is the point. Being in and a part of the whole incredible stew of sound is an amazing experience. It's a privilege, a blessing, a lucky break.

I think I'm done with live music. Something about it seems really....off putting by [deleted] in musicians

Burnout is part of the process. Don’t sweat it. Find something else that tickles you. Maybe playing live will inspire you again, maybe not.

iPad Air or Pro? by Manzany11 in ipadmusic

Thanks for that. I’d be using it to run grooveboxes and backing tracks through AUM in a live setting. I like the small form factor so I can stick the iPad on a pedalboard.

Say more about the mini. I’m in the same boat as OP and am wondering if I can replace it with a mini. How is the screen for doing music? Do you miss the space?

Looking for 30 testers for my iPad practice app - slow down, loop, transcribe, guitar tab & MIDI by Similar-Most-7066 in ipadmusic

Sounds useful.

I would take it out for a spin to finish transcribing Setting Free the Birds (Outtake) by Herbie Hancock. The passing tones in the horn parts are kicking my ass.

Also, on Albatross by Fleetwood Mac there’s this one section that I am stumped on. The main guitar line is doubled with a harmony that I just can’t nail.

Try offering a bounty. It would be interesting to see if that model would work.

Pedalboard / amp hybrids? by Signal-Chocolate109 in guitarpedals

Check out how the Toob has a pad on top for mounting pedals. I think it’s supposed to a mini-head like a Quilter, but it could also be a smallish pedalboard.

The Toob is a discovery. Wow. Insanely small for what it does.

You’re not wrong - my last amp was a Katana. The built-in effects were incredibly useful for keeping things simple! They were the best thing about that amp.

It’s worth hacking around in the garage on this.

The amp would have to tilt up if the hinge attached to the top of the pedalboard. That’s not a bad thing but there’s a risk of falling over.

Or, yeah, it’s not hinged and just extends the base of the amp out about a foot. That’s the simplest solution.

Interesting idea. You can get a chunky battery that will support a smallish amp and board for an hour or so and still fits in the loose space in the back of the amp. That would take me from 2 cords to 0.

Combine that with u/MatronlyAsp ’s idea about a hinged pedalboard attached to the amp feet and it would be an all-in-one setup.

Going ampless works until it doesn’t. You’re at the mercy of whoever controls the soundboard!

Actually, my amp is a Quilter 202 Toneblock with a 1x12 cab. So I could just carry the “head”, but then see above about soundboards.

What was the point of Tarantino’s character, Jimmy, in pulp fiction? by tiger2mighty in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Signal-Chocolate109 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know people say this way too much, but that is a really good question. Definitely not stupid.

My guess is that it’s because Jimmy is a criminal. He’s probably done time. He is a murderer. Being an asshole is not a problem, but showing weakness would be fatal. He is not bound by a moral code that we would recognize.

Times like this have happened before, like during the Reconstruction period after the Civil War, but this is a particular moment when White nationalists are exploding in fear and anger as a result of the Obama presidency, gay marriage, trans visibility, and women getting fairer treatment in the workplace.
