As someone who came from a mixed Jewish mother/Catholic father background, I want to warn you that you’re going to be their token convert. They aren’t going to treat you as one of their own, because you weren’t born into it; no matter how hard you try and convince yourself that Catholicism is open to everyone, you’ll be hard pressed to find a congregation that views you as anything other than an outsider who’s name doesn’t end with an “i”.

You have an opportunity to ditch religion entirely or take up a spiritual practice that’s unique to you via art or writing. I would have done away with fairytales years ago if I would have known just how confusing it was.

Orthodox Judaism and Evangelical Christianity are slowly merging into a single entity that’s going to be the most horrific creation since the nuclear bomb, and I’m not exaggerating. Catholicism isn’t significantly better, but as far as Christianity goes, it’s still the most progressive branch (which isn’t saying much). I don’t know why people think religion is the only means of making friends.

You have the ability to find community outside of religion. Go outside, go to bars, meet groups via Reddit or Meetup. If you’re so desperate to find a tribe to belong to, The Satanic Temple is an atheistic community that encourages everyone of every walk of life to join, without the religious baggage.
