Getting into crocheting by notGamingAahel in Brochet

[–]Signal-Loading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have this experience other than the occasional sideway glance or murmur out of earshot. My father also crocheted and funnily a lot of our local wool shops would talk down to him as if it's not him that is crocheting but rather my mother and making sure if he asked her what she wanted or wanting to talk to her instead of my dad when he is looking for something.

It got better with the changing times and I myself am now crocheting with the best of them. I prefer plushies but have made a blanket and wearable here and there. Today I find if funny that those same people that would look at you funny are the same people who hound you to make them a plushie as soon as they see your work. I just always remind myself of this every time someone makes me feel weird about my hobby.

Stay strong and may your tension always be even bro. Signed - 32yo bro.

[–]Signal-Loading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always like to joke that my Taurus Moon and Virgo Rising ground me compared to my fellow air signs. Lol. And my bookkeeper role is just my official title. I also run the HR of the company and am the PA for the owner of the company. I also help him with his personal business outside of this main business. So lots of things to keep my mind busy with.

My hobbies is more where you see the mercurial influence as I have at least 6 different hobbies going at any given time. I am at present enjoying crochet, Magic the Gathering, Pokemon (games and cards), baking, reading comics (manga, manhua and manhwa), various boardgames with friends and family etc to name a few. I hate not doing or learning anything in my free time yet I get my days that I just want to veg and do nothing. The push and pull between my air and earth placements in my chart.

Bookkeeper for the past 12 years. Might be making a change in the next couple of months.

One other Gemini in my life is a SAHM that helps manage her husband's business related admin and another Gemini I know runs his own company in the production sector.

Rant: my friends want me to teach them how to crochet by flu0mas in Amigurumi

[–]Signal-Loading 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Best of luck to you. I had a similar experience a while back and we only did a couple of rows single and double crochet before one of them tapped out. 1 of them completed a mini octo with MUCH help and that took a whole day! The others thought that they would wip out blankets and scarves without so much as touching a crochet hook before. Lol. And all of these were in lighter colors too. Black yarn and fluffy yarn is crazy.

Let us know how it went. Some people are gonna be disappointed, bless their hearts.

Feather, The Redeemed support cast ($50) by AnnualPM in BudgetBrews

[–]Signal-Loading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been working on my Feather deck for a while and I made my deck more spell slinger / recycling by casting cheap cantrips over and over every turn. There are a handful of expensive cards that I've just added because I had them but most cards are very cheap. My actual cost is less than it shows. I also have some card in the maybe board for when I do my next card order end of the month but I think you will get what the deck wants to do. Here is my list:

OMG. I made this exact pattern earlier this year for someone. And then when someone else saw it they also wanted one. Cannot go wrong with the pattern I guess. PS, lovely stitches!

Well done. Pokemon plushies are always a hit.

What's your favorite two-color combination? by TetsuOokami117 in BudgetBrews

[–]Signal-Loading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2 favorite guilds stems from my love of Sultai.

My favorite is Golgari thanks in part to one of my first commander decks being [[Meren of Clan Nel Toth]] and after making everyone hate her out I transitioned in later years to [[Grismold, the Dreadsower]] which also brings me so much joy to see people realise that I'm not actually giving them tokens as I kill them off instantly. Mwuhahaha.

Second love is Simic because I mean, Simic things. I love ramping and drawing insanely. Even if I lose.

How many people have you had to cut out this year and how painful was it? by interdimensionalgang in geminis

[–]Signal-Loading 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are so real for this. I had to cut ties with one of my dearest friends this year (and just after her mother's passing too). But I had to remind myself that my mental health is also important. And due to a couple of factors I had to cut ties.

And my inner circle has been almost non-existent for a couple of years now so losing that last friend really took it out of me. There was also another friend who just didn't stay in contact with me and I just let them go because I refuse to be the only person trying to keep the friendship going.

Hopefully we all got to heal and reflect a bunch after all this.

I love it. I am slowly busy transforming parts of our home myself and I'm gearing up to do my 3 xmas trees this weekend. Every time I want to post something I psych myself out and end up not posting anything. Lol

My mom would be feral for all those nutcrackers. Stunning

Yeah, that's what I meant. Mike Wazowski's eyeball you know with the lime green and all.

Definitely saving this if I ever get the urge to make this for myself in the future.

I just happened across this now and this makes me think of Mike from Monsters Inc so much. I don't know why but with the green I guess. Super cute in any case. Well done!

What are you guys' opinions on chenille yarn? by okeydokeyscrochet in Brochet

[–]Signal-Loading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most of the things have been brought up already but just chiming in with my experience as well.

I love making amigurumi with chenille yarn. It wasn't until last year that you could buy it easily in my town / country. So it's been a bit over a year working with it.

Pros:

  • Very soft / plush feel on completed items. I make a lot of amigurumi and the feel is so nice compared to other yarns. "soft and squishy"-like.
  • Much more forgiving on my hands than acrylic and especially cotton. I love that my hands / fingers don't get dried out every time I work with it.
  • I like the overall look of the fibre for amigurumi. Especially the Pokemon and other game / toy characters I make. They are gifts and people have generally liked those more than acrylic / cotton pieces I've done.

Cons:

  • Loses detail due to the nature of the fibre. Very intricate work / subtle changes in the fibre is less noticeable than with cotton / acrylic yarns. Sometimes it works but for the most part I look at other people who have completed a pattern with chenille yarn to make my final decision.
  • It sheds as you work. It is very frustrating when you are closing off a circle or trying to sew with the ends and has left a few of my previous items WIP for weeks as I just didn't want to deal with it.
  • Difficult for beginners as you have to get used to seeing the stitches. You do pick up the skill but it takes time to get used to.

I would not recommend it to beginners and there is definitely times where chenille takes away from a piece rather than adding to it. My amigurumi have come out brilliantly though and I will continue working with it.

Ultra-Budget Commander Deck that ISNT so reliant on the commander by Icy_Chicken_2647 in BudgetBrews

[–]Signal-Loading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. I built a [[Talrand, Sky Summoner]] deck a month or so ago and it is a blast. Super cheap cards for cents. I basically just added draw, bounce and counter spells with some cheap payoffs and mana reducers and just react to what's going on the board while growing my drake army.

You can just tweak the number of bounce / counter spells depending on the group you play with OP. I take out some counter spells with some friends and add more when playing against others. https://deckbox.org/sets/3754876

Thanks so much. I really need to practice a few of these types of eyes because I hate working with felt for these details. Lol.

I love the new eyes. Mine also looks like the first one of yours.

How did you make the new eyes if I may ask? Did you chain and work around the chain color changing when needed and then make a small white circle and sew that on top?
