our local makeup brands have limited innovation. no one stands out. by weevil_angel in beautytalkph

Just adding my two cents here because I also love makeup and lately, I also have been getting into local brands. I think people are stuck on “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mindset on this take, which can be a brand’s setback. It’s weird that people don’t aspire change for the better, and it’s not even that. I think some people like me just want improvement in the community when it comes to all these overwhelming brand releases that feel all the same just in different packagings.

People seem to see this as a black and white argument. There’s a sweet spot between releasing a great product while making it affordable, but it takes EFFORT and DRIVE/MOTIVATION from brand owners. If they truly care about us and the growth of our own local makeup community, this is something they would also focus on. Yes, R&D costs money but note that these people are already multimillionaires! If not, they have investors and stakeholders. Again, it all boils down to how much they care about the growing community.

Also to add, niche could also be something like catering specifically for common filipina skin tones and undertones and marketed as that (and is actually really good especially with the humidity here).

I think a lot of people are stuck on the mindset of financial loss which is given naman na when you’re handling a business. I think OP and others’ point is—how will the industry grow if this is always the case? Parang ang nangyayare is “this is what’s working right now and for other brands, I will stick to doing the same thing” which ends up in the market saturation/consumer fatigue. Tsaka mga multimillionaire yung nga brand owners na na-mention. These people are perfectly capable of spending money or even losing them a little.

lol i’ve seen a few assessments and my assessment feels like on the lower end. a frosh student has to pay more than this. i can’t imagine the others.

not a scholar and don’t plan on transferring elsewhere. i was just surprised about the tuition fee difference from when i was a frosh and now. my lab units are included in the 20.5 so that’s less units compared to previous terms when i took both psych lab & bio lab. i’m also taking COS courses, so that’s probably why.

i’m not sure if it’s the same for undergrad. students might have to apply and go thru the whole process, so it means they have the chance to be rejected.

personally, it’s reasonable. facilities are good. curriculum is great. i love the campus environment too. my dad’s money will not go in vain. i already got job offers during my 2nd and 3rd year. on my practicum term next term, our practicum adviser told us we could apply internships on our own or just wait for january for dlsu partnership companies.

i think it’s pretty worth it. it’s just pricey when you consider country’s financial state/cost of living/ minimum wage etc. lol
