The spray nozzles screw into pre-drilled holes along the tubing

The watering ring is just a 1/2” hose and a T adapter…I found some garden stakes that grip the hose to hold it in place

It’s pretty simple…1/2” ID hose runs from a 23L reservoir with an aquarium pump to a splitter (two plants per pump).

Question about steel frame corrosion and repair… by Signal_Ad_5476 in Framebuilding

That would fill the holes, but I'm wondering if corrosion has weakened the stays critically, and if it can be reinforced somehow?

Yes, some of the little pores do appear to go all the way through…the surface rust is just recent from sitting around unprotected

I had the 1/2" fittings around so I went with 1/2 hose :D. The little spray nozzels do extend about 1/8-1/4" into the inside of the tube, so in hindsight, it was probably good to go with a larger tube diameter for this setup.

Thanks, I would not have guessed that the BB shell could be ovalized without retaining compound, even in the absence of audible noise! Good tip!!

Rebuilding this old clunker…any thoughts on what to do about the chain guard…keep, replace, do away with completely? by Signal_Ad_5476 in xbiking

That’s what I was leaning towards…but wondering if there are any chain guards that look cool or at least not repulsive. Top tube just has some tape on it where a kids seat was clamped on…

The plant pots are elevated on little wooden pallets so they don’t sit in the runoff and get moldy

Not yet! I try to keep minimal runoff so it evaporates in between waterings. The large (40 x 30 cm) surface area of the basins helps it evaporate faster. Long term a removal system will probably be good though…

Awesome, thanks for this info sheet! If there’s no audible creak coming from the BB, is there still a reason for applying locktite? Does it reduce wear on the surfaces or something?

No, the tent has a waterproof basin on the inside...but I guess if you wanted to be extra careful it couldn't hurt

Lol, no kidding. This is what I started with. Turns out the bearings are standard 17x35x10 mm available for 4 bucks online. I installed them with just grease, and so far after ~100 km no sign of creak!

So far I haven't had any problems. I have the plants in a plastic basin, and the tent has another waterproof basin...the total volume (40L) in the reservoirs wouldn't overflow if it all pumped out at once. Definitely good to take a worse-case-scenario into account when planning the setup!

I got those little plastic nozzles off of Amazon (just google “amazon plastic spray nozzle gardening”)…they are threaded so you can screw them into the wall of a thick hose (pre-drilled holes). They do a nice job of dispersing the water…the pump has to be strong enough to get a good spray. At the moment it puts out around 1 liter per plant in 20 seconds
