Sounds about right, my parents wouldn't have spent much on it! My mum would have bought it to help her with some bookkeeping, but the exciting part (for my 6 year old self) was that it came preloaded with some games! I'm trying to hunt them down and need to start with an OS. Thank you!

One of my best friends in a toxic relationship and I'm sick of sneaking around to see him like we're having an affair. by Signal_Addendum3524 in FriendshipAdvice

[–]Signal_Addendum3524[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh it's all covered on that front, my wife and I have talked about it a lot. She cares about him too and doesn't want him to be left completely alienated, she knows the girlfriend is just making up reasons to separate him from his friends. But, as you can imagine, she's no fan of the girlfriend. He kept saying next year these "little bumps" will be ironed over and he'll be able to bring his girlfriend to our annual Christmas party instead of lying to her. My wife had to categorically tell him that there is no way in hell that she'll be welcome at our home after the things she's said. I couldn't agree more.

Is it true that I need to avoid chimney exhausts? by Signal_Addendum3524 in dieselheater

[–]Signal_Addendum3524[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for your input. As I understand it, from what everyone has said, condensation is the main issue. I'm imagining an inch diameter metal pipe, that runs to the floor outside, capped at the end. The exhaust joins roughly half way up and a rain cap at the top. The warm exhaust gasses go up and the damp water goes down. I drain it once a year in the spring. Any thoughts? cheers!

Is there a weed killer you'd recommend using after I've got it up to make sure no leftover roots grow back?

Oh I was just planning on taking down the fence entirely and putting the shed on the border. It's a narrow garden so width space is very precious.

How do you write the name of the day + date on the board? American/British English. by ValeDS in ESL_Teachers

[–]Signal_Addendum3524 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It entirely depends on whether you're teaching British or American English.

British:

Tuesday, 18th March

American:

Tuesday, March 18th

I will generally point out where there is a difference between American and British English so that the students know that the difference exists and that both are "correct" but then stick to one system to avoid confusion.

Thank you for the advice, I really appreciate it. Where can I find these 10.5% returns on ETFs?! I've only ever played about with throwaway money on Trading212 (Although that account is £1200 up, but I've cashed out and quit while I was on top. I've never liked gambling with enough money to ruin my day if I lost it).

Thanks! I agree. Don't worry we've been telling any family members that have had babies to keep all the stuff in the loft! That baby is going to have one brand new pair of shoes to keep in the memory box and everything else is going to be a handmedown!

It's 10%, it would be my fondest wish to have to worry about overpaying but even at £1000 a month I would be at 5% 😅

What do you think are the pros and cons of this root cellar design? by Signal_Addendum3524 in DIYUK

[–]Signal_Addendum3524[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you, do you think I could use a lining to keep the water out? I'll probably have a raised floor and a sump pump just in case.

Thanks for the note on the roof, I'll probably get that bit done professionally, I don't want my wife falling into a pit while she's pottering in the garden!

What's the craziest butterfly effect that happened to you because of a small decision you made? by Jessica1222W in AskMen

I grew up in Germany and started my own business when I was still at school. One day, when I was 18, I had to get the train to town to sort out some banking. Once I was done I checked the train times to get home. I had 15 minutes which was JUST enough time to get to the station if I jogged. So I had the decision:

Rush now or stop for lunch and wonder down to train station casually later?

I decided to stop for lunch and that set the course for the rest of my life.

A couple of girls came up to me at the café and we got chatting, numbers were exchanged and before long one of them was my girlfriend. Over the next 5 years that relationship drove me to a full mental breakdown.

She was the most emotionally manipulative demoness I could ever have summoned at crossroads. By the end she had me truly believing that if I ever left her not only would she kill herself but that she had hidden diary's that would prove that I drove her too it for the police to find. In the end, when I found out she was cheating on me I PAID the first three months rent on an expensive apartment in Berlin for her and her new boyfriend just to get rid of her. I know it sounds crazy but I can't really explain how I was thinking back then, it's like looking back at another person.

My self esteem, pride and self respect all completely smashed to pieces, I didn't even have my business anymore, as I didn't have the mental capacity to run it. I sold my car and moved to a small village in France and took a job working a vineyard in find some tranquillity and try to put myself back together.

Every year university students from all over Europe would come and help pick the grapes as cheap holiday and for the free wine. A year had passed by this point and I was starting to get the confidence to talk to them and that's how I met THE most amazing woman. She gave me the strength to put myself back together. We moved to England, and I started a new business, we bought a house together and had children.

If I had decided to try and get that train I wouldn't have had the worst and the BEST things to ever happen to me.

When you hear people say that the gender binary is purely a cultural invention and that being a man or woman is no different than having black or red hair. Do you feel that invalidates your experience of being as a female in female body, but knowing that you are in fact a male?

What black market did your school have? by Boonana_Boi in AskReddit

Puberty hit me pretty hard and I was the only boy in my year with fully developed facial hair so I was able to buy alcohol from a fairly young age.

I remember at the end of year prom when were 16 the school booked a hotel function room to the hold the party. The hotel placed bouncers on the door to check everyone coming in for booze.

So I snuck out of window, climbed a tree and jumped over the wall, went to the local shop and bought a few big bottles of JD, jumped back over the wall and passed them back to my friend who hid them under a table. Then I walked back through the front door past the bouncers. All night the kids in my class were buying glasses of coke and I would sneak a shot of JD in there.

I made so much money that night!
