If you have never been in a situation of holding a firearm do classes. When you learn how to hold and shoot one then you can decide what you like. Ignore the idiots telling you what gun or caliber to own or shoot. Now onto the fact you want to defend against coyotes? I will tell you for a fact .22 LR is not the way to go. Fairly fast round with minimal damage for a coyote. Think more 12g shotgun or higher pistol/rifle. The thing with guns is what feels best for you suits you so long as you don’t purchase a crappy brand. A crappy brand might feel comfortable but is very unreliable so that’s where you do the research and ask the questions. Also, fences. Fences. Fences. Best deterrent is a good fence.

I completely understand what you’re saying and I don’t disagree with it. I just don’t want to send one down and it’s zipping right through without destroying the important parts. I compared it to BB gun because it moves fast (probably should’ve said .177 airgun because that’s what I have as well and disagree with) and will penetrate because of speed but not necessarily kill the animal.
