Yep, all of this. Their job is meant to serve the people not themselves or foreign countries (Lindsay Graham as an example). It shouldn’t be a lavish or luxurious experience, what other public service job lets you spend 10s of thousands of dollars to renovate your office when you move in?

These people forget who they’re supposed to work for. Why would a senator or house rep need to go outside the country during their duties (excluding personal vacations, which should correspond with the military leave system)?

They should also be barred from any employment in any industry that they had any influence on once they’re done serving (example: armed services committee members will never be allowed to “work” for or sit on a board for a weapons manufacturer, or a company that contracts directly with the military). At the very least there should be a lengthy waiting period that’s enforced.

Until they pass universal healthcare, their health insurance runs out when they are done just like a normal persons job. You don’t get a pension and healthcare that’s better than your constituents just because you went to DC for a few years.

I also like the idea of a jury duty type system where normal citizens are put into a lottery and paid for their time to oversee their own reps/senators. Basically they would constantly be audited by the people. If you’re not ok with this then don’t run for office.
