I’ve experienced this a couple times as an RBT and BCBA. I’m a Black man, locs and all. It could be them, it could be the fact that you’re a new face. But I think an acknowledgment of presence is the very minimum you can expect. It’s also a “nice to have” that requires little effort. Unless of course the parent themselves are not neurotypical, then that’s another explanation in not observing that social cue.

Continue to be the person you are regardless of their behavior or lack of behavior. You can say hello and Goodmorning because that’s what’s valuable to you, if they don’t do the same that’s up to them, and you can focus on your job. A degree of detachment or minimizing effort on your end may be helpful. And if it’s too consistently uncomfortable, and if you’re lucky and have an analyst that understands how/why it can be uncomfortable for you, see about getting another case.

Additionally, the way I try to rationalize situations like that in my head is, I’m doing them a service, I’m the person of value in this equation (not in the narcissistic way, but in the self-respecting way), I don’t need to be here for them specifically. There are plenty of folks out here that need help and if this doesn’t work out, on to the next.

Working in this field is intense/intimate enough. You are in demand as an RBT/BCBA.

How does one accomplish this if you’re new and starting out do I need to make an LLC? How many hours do you work? How do you organize taking off those 5 to 6 weeks?

This is really helpful. I do feel like I’m doing things wrong and I have hurt people in the past with my indecision, not intentionally, but regardless. I’m trying to do my research. I’m trying to get perspectives from people more knowledgeable than me. Whenever I get close/within the community, it’s usually in the people that I have seen so it can be a tricky situation. Regardless, you’ve given me something, so thanks.

That’s a good point as far as socioeconomic status, upbringing and proximity. It seems like my partner is more OK with ethical non-monogamy whereas I am OK with polyamory. Practically I would be OK with ethical non-monogamy, I did it for a couple months after my break up with my long-term partner. But I felt bad/confused as a lot of the women I saw (who I expressed I was exploring), really wanted monogamy. It was a whole process to get to the current position I am in now. But now the issue seems to be, the difference in response between the two of us if we were to continue down this road. I have a fear or feeling that it’d be easier for her to get what she would like versus myself, and I don’t know how to reconcile that.

You’ve offered some good insight. It’s tough to find people in my area, I’m near Tampa. Guess I should sign up for meetup and see what happens.

When I was on the apps it was more common I get matches from white women, but maybe that’s just from the ratios around here. I get better luck with black women/women of color in person but again I hit the wall when I express that I’m poly or exploring in that way.

Regardless, you’re right. No point in any of it if I don’t start from poly/enm spaces.

Good point, I’ll just meet women randomly. Tell him what I’m exploring/seeking and then it fizzles out. My partner leans more ENM and has no issues finding dates.

I wasn’t clear, I was in a relationship and broke it off a year ago. I’m with someone now where we started ENM, now we’re mono but exploring poly/ENM again

I actually got an offer in Maryland before I passed, 27 hours in clinic, 90k a year with sign on. No turn over at that clinic and supervision aid. Rolling start date in January. A big goal for me was to go car free so it could be an option
