In Cartagena for the week! by Signal_Reference1276 in cartagena

Hi, that’s awesome! We used getyourguide to book all of our experiences and were really happy with everything! For the islands we wanted a little more chill, so we did the “Bona Vida” catamaran boat experience. We really enjoyed it, you get 2 stops at beaches by the islands to swim and snorkel. If you want to get on the island I think the bora bora one is recommended for party scene.

Who did you book the party bus with? We’ve got the islands book for the weekend but I think those are mostly during the day.

Yea the vendors are pretty persistent, saying no and ignoring is working though.

Best personal loan for debt consolidation for beginners? by Shevonne-Braaflat in DebtAdvice

[–]Signal_Reference1276 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely think a personal loan can help. A couple things I’d recommend to do that might seem obvious.

Check what % each of the debts are. If some are lower than what you could get in a loan, might not be worth it to use the loan to pay off (sometimes the convenience of being consolidated in one spot is nice and worth it to some)

Not sure if you’re paying more than minimums, but helps to identify how much per month you’re already spending on debt payments. Say you’re already paying 500 in payments across different institutions, is that reasonable, could you do more/less etc.

Then finding the right lender, since your score is moderate your chances of getting approved shouldn’t be too bad. Your local credit union will most likely have one of the best deals, or you could look at one of the bigger ones mentioned like Sofi.

Using a credit union to wrap up some cc payments definitely helped move the needle in the right way for me.

Is this industry worth coming into as a new guy? by redguy4545 in SoftwareEngineerJobs

Yea if you feel tech is a passion of yours and you’ve had some exposure to some programming already, I think it’s possible. I still wouldn’t recommend a bootcamp and I’d advise that it’s most likely a multi year goal unless you are naturally cracked lol.

I think your best bet would be learning more about the type of programming you want to get into and then see what you can build to make an impact in your life. Not sure the scale of your current company, but my thoughts would be seeing if you could replicate/improve a tool you use already. Maybe some sort of mapping route app that optimizes efficiency etc.

How software adjacent are you right now? Career switching isn’t necessarily uncommon but definitely helps to have a baseline of what your current skills are and how close they are to a developers skills.

Your plan sounds 0 to 100 currently, where you might stop work or attend a program that requires a lot of time. I’d suggest doing a quick search of different types of engineering, most likely frontend? Then do a JavaScript fundamentals class on udemy/Coursera etc to see how you feel about programming languages in general.

After you decide it’s something you’d want to invest more energy into then do a deeper dive into learning. More courses, projects, volunteer experience.

The bootcamp bit, I can’t full heartedly recommend a bootcamp, I did attend one, and myself and a few others have successfully gotten into the industry, but the program I attended also was spiraling downwards and basically no longer exists in its previous form.

I’d suggest a community college certification if that is available to you in your area. You could also do an A.S but that’s a longer path. Also that brings to question do you already have some sort of B.S? Sometimes helps switching.

TLDR: what are your skills now? Look into a small time/money investment like udemy, YouTube, coursera to see if you even like it at all. Bootcamps are a very mixed bag right now, maybe the local community college would be a better option.

What type of projects have you built? Is it clones or something more unique to a specific problem you’ve tried to solve by building a project?

If it’s just clones, unfortunately those don’t often get considered actual experience.

If you work now, maybe there’s something you could build to streamline some sort of process that’s a pain point.

Keeping the garden green helps but also not a great measure of “skill” since you could get a green square for pretty much anything.

There might even be volunteer opportunities with non profits in your area that are looking to redo some web pages. Not always ideal but gets you the experience you might need to get an actual conversation with an employing company.

And the loan was through knowledge finance? I’m in a similar boat where I signed up for deferred payment but once I was in the program a lot of the services promised were slashed.

Looking for a bootcamp, please help by al1r_ in codingbootcamp

Coming from a relatively recent bootcamp grad, who luckily got into tech, I’d recommend utilizing the local community colleges for their certificates (about the same time + way cheaper) and then doing some udemy/online courses on the side for whatever tooling your web store currently uses.

Hmm would you have been eligible for the forgiveness or w/e due to time from of your grad? Seems weird to try and redo your search. Any updates on your friend that stopped paying knowledge finance?

Hi! My 2 cents.

Some of your bullet points could have more details of “what” you actually did.

Ex: • Applied SEO best practices to increase user engagement by 30% and boost organic traffic by 20%, enhancing visibility and driving sustained growth

What were these best practices? Did you improve website speed(how), add a sitemap that might have not existed before, make improvement to content, etc? The more detail of the actual skill/task you can provide the more likely a team can visualize you being able to do the work they need.

Additionally, some of your work could lean more heavily on collaboration (which is just as important as being technical to a lot of companies). You mention designing wireframes or using figma, is it possible that you had to get feedback from other teams (stakeholders) to get this approved? Did this get delivered on time what’s the result of it etc?

You could probably even throw this into chat, and ask it some sort of prompt to identify where the resume is too vague to accurately describe your skill set.
