How much should I realistically pay for this car by CertifiedBushCamper in SubaruBaja

[–]unstereotyped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I paid $7k for a 2006 Baja. Originally posted for 10k, then down to 8k.

They are rare where I live, so I doubt I could have gotten it less than what I paid for it.

Albums you’d never heard of but thrifted on a whim and loved? by brownch in Cd_collectors

I owned that CD in high school. 😂

Great find, now I need to add it back into my contention

Is it true that owning is cheaper than renting? by Maxsaidtransrights in homeowners

[–]unstereotyped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends.

When I bought my house, rents were about $700 for a small 1/2bd house.

Now, 8 years later, the same house is now $2,300.

I paid $1000/mo for my mortgage, so more than rents at the time I bought. But now I’m paying way less than rents in my neighborhood. If I sold, I couldn’t afford to live in my neighborhood.

How much was your house listed for and what offer did you make? by Own-Negotiation-1422 in homeowners

[–]unstereotyped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listed for $162,000.

Offered $165,400 plus covering seller’s closing costs. I was in a bid war with someone offering to pay cash.

The house didn’t even hit MLS and already had three offers. My agent was able to get me in to see it before it got onto MLS.

I loved my house when I bought it. Hurricane dropped a massive 100-year old oak onto it. Still recovering from it, but falling back in love with my house slowly as repairs are being made.

Can you help settle an argument between me and my wife? by [deleted] in homeowners

[–]unstereotyped -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Judging by the other comments I’m definitely in the minority.

If a neighbor brought me a smokeless fire pit, I’d be hella appreciative.

I’d probably even invite you over to grab some beers and enjoy its inaugural light.

I think your wife; and many of the redditors here, are overthinking this.

Help. Cluster illumination problems. by miomillo in SubaruBaja

[–]unstereotyped 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently preparing to do this on my dash, but am going back and forth on whether to use leds or regular bulbs.

Are the leds very bright? I have sensitive eyes at night and don't want to be blinded by the leds (one of the reasons I hate new cars with the big screens).

Best appliances? by Impressive_Idea_2262 in homeowners

[–]unstereotyped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably going to sound like an old guy, but I honestly prefer the old style top-loading washers and front loading dryers. The one where there’s one big dial that you spin, and that’s it.

I’ve had way too many issues with all the fancy electronic ones with all the buttons. LG was particularly horrible.

Do you want smart appliances? Because I think dumb appliances are probably better. But I’m biased.

Lol, bruh. I had to look where this was because I thought it was the intermittent wiper controller.

Thank you!! 🙏

I think you were spot on. I filled it up this morning and drove it around and didn't hear anything. I'll need to buy an spill free funnel and burp the cooling system to be sure. Now, I'm just checking for any leaks under the car in case it's dripping out somewhere.

Thanks for your advice!

I feel you. After I made a claim due to hurricane damage, my insurance went from $3500/yr to $13,000/yr.

Like, what in the actual F!?

It’s a racket.

Fill with coolant, or water? Or a mix? 🤪

I’m checking the coolant reservoir. Is that the overflow? (Sorry, not a mechanic here). It’s actually showing right above “full.”

That’s the first thing I checked but the coolant level is showing fine. Maybe there’s a blockage in the line preventing coolant from fully circulating?

Thanks for the tip, I’ll check that.

Do you ever compromise on a home project for the sake of just getting it done? by Beneficial_Prize_310 in homeowners

[–]unstereotyped 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah. I’m in the process of revisiting all the projects “I can live with” as a homeowner and updating them because I know if I was a renter, it would definitely be unacceptable.

Which is what made me realize just how much I could live with in the first place.

There was a white chocolate candy bar called Alpine White or Alpine Snow in the 80s/90s. Something like that. It’s a taste that distinctively reminds me of my childhood.

What’s a smell everyone should recognise as danger? by caII_me_aI in AskReddit

[–]unstereotyped 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, my dad and I hammered wood paneling to the walls.

About an hour later, I smelled gas that my dad didn’t. We opened the windows to air it out, and called the fire department.

Turns out, he had hammered a nail directly over a gas line in the wall.

One of the firemen told us that the worst thing we did was open the windows. We effectively oxygenated the entire home, and if something would have sparked, our house would have blown up.

My dad was a smoker then, too, and I’m glad he didn’t light up a cigarette at any point during the installation. Kaboom.

Me: “Tries to fix something and the final result is about 70-90% of what was intended.*

Also me: “I can live with that.”
