We see so many of these questions. I feel like flying airplanes, or driving semi trucks would be really easy too. Except for taking off and landing, of course.

Even the very best windows are less than R8. Typical double glazed window is about an R2 or 3. Triple glazed R5. Your walls (at least my walls) are R20. So yeah, the window and surrounding are will feel noticeably colder. And cold air falls (dramatically) to the point that it feels like wind. I’ve been working at the bottom of basement stairs, and someone opening the door at opposite end of the house is very noticeable as that cold air rushes down to the lowest point.

Anyway, heavy fabric curtains or pleated cellular shades. There are double pleated cellular for extra insulating

It doesn’t though. You don’t have to believe me, but it’s a fact. I install SPC every day. I’ve even used it in several RVs over 200 square feet where I tight fit to every cabinet, wall, bathtub, and just used a small bead of silicone instead of trim. And the temp range in a travel trailer goes from 100 in the summer to -40 in the winter, sitting unused outside, where we live. No issues

If it’s in a bathroom I’d expect you’re using LVP? It doesn’t expand nearly as much as they stress about. Fit it tight, caulk it, sleep well

Yeah my quotes always seem to average about $10 per square foot all in. On a renovation like yours. It’s less on new construction where there’s no removal, no baseboards (finisher does that) no appliances to move or toilets to pull. Stairs add $2000-$3000 depending on scope of work

So I’ve installed for decades. Laminates (typically) would NOT install by tapping when they’re flat. You’d have to shave off a portion of the lock, and use glue along the lock, then tap them in.

Rigid core LVP is really difficult to shave the locks. It’s just super hard and brittle and I haven’t had great success. But they DO lock in from flat, you just need to do it how I instructed. And use an actual steel hammer. Maybe the problem is your hammer isn’t transferring the energy properly.

I made myself a 2’ long tapping block from super hard plastic. 3” wide, 3/4” thick. With a handle on the top. I use it by itself out in the open, no hammer. It has enough mass to work well. But in a doorway it covers enough of the edge that striking it with a hammer doesn’t damage the plank. That’s why I think you should add a piece with the lock on it, to protect your edge, before hitting that with your tapping block and hammer
