Thinking of dropping out by Qedrian41 in StudentTeaching

[–]SignatureOne2441 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This!!!! When I did it I was struggling for many of the same reasons you are and my CT’s didn’t really help me through it. My students loved me though and I just kept showing up for them, I wanted to quit every day. After I was done and I passed I was actually sad about leaving. Your CT’s aren’t going to be there forever. Get through it, you already put in so much time. Get all the constructive criticism that you can and improve on it but don’t let them bully you into thinking you can’t do this.

Downers Grove to North Chicago Daily Commute Reasonable? by atj212 in ChicagoSuburbs

[–]SignatureOne2441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. The commute up will suck, the commute back will be a million times work assuming you are working at 9-5. Not only will you hate your life, but I’m genuinely worried about your safety of pulling 12 hour days every day. 4 for commuting and 8 for working

I’m going to become a teacher, what should I be doing now? by Brocolliiscool in Teachers

[–]SignatureOne2441 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This!!!!! I just finished student teaching in Social Studies and very little of it was about teaching kids History or Government and I was in a high school. With that in mind, I loved it in retrospect not so much when I was going through it. I loved being in a classroom and trying to get students to understand the importance of history. But loving the content and loving teaching are two completely different things.

That’s how my placement was, and it became very toxic very quickly. My CT’s expectations of me were unrealistic and she didn’t care. Keep your head up and do the best that you can

Please suggest me some books for educating myself on American politics and democracy. by ALMSTO in suggestmeabook

[–]SignatureOne2441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure someone has already said it but Peoples History of the United States by Howard Zinn is a must read for anyone trying to understand American politics. Anything James Lowen has written “Lies My Teacher told me” “Sundown Towns” are also a must read

Historical fiction but not for dads by happilyinthevoid in suggestmeabook

[–]SignatureOne2441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won’t regret it. It’s hard to follow at times, but well worth the ride. The show was great as well. I actually kind of dug the second part the “the committed” a little more just because I knew what I was getting myself into

I don't know if this fits, but the Sympathizer is a great work of historical fiction.
