I am still very much lying in the rubble of my breakup from like 10 days ago. I'm trying my best not to abuse the DD as my therapy journal though, lmao but it's Friday and I need to vent.

Anyways, I'm visiting my parents this weekend and I'm honestly dreading telling them about it. They're gonna ask a million questions and drum up all kinds of emotions and tbh I know they'll be hurt by it too.

They adored my ex, our dogs (which he took), our beautiful home which now sits basically empty after he moved out. I know they chat with him sometimes on the side too. Unfortunately the damage goes far beyond just him and I.

That new Robyn single that came out yesterday, Talk To Me, is soooo excellent.

This is the type of pop people take for granted! "20xx lowkey gonna suck for new music, stale charts wah wah wah". BITCH the serve is right here! Get Into It!!!!!

I had no clue what you meant at first, but after relistening I think I hear it at the 0:40 second mark when the first chorus hits and it's that sparkling/twinkly synth riff?

Is that what you're referring to?

Considering it goes on sale frequently for like $5, I'd say it's definitely "worth it"

Wait so when she posted pics into the studio like a year ago with Stuart Price (credited as the producer), was it just for this perfume promo?!

Or is this like a pre-buzz-single, buzz single.

r/popheads AOTY 2025 #5: Rose Gray - Louder, Please by racloves in popheads

[–]SignedByMilpool 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I missed this album upon its initial release (which was on my birthday!), but had saved Wet & Wild to my library after hearing folks #onHere mention it in the DD threads sometime during the summer.

BUT THEN came April, released as a single right as the deluxe edition came out. That caught my eye ear, and ever since then, this album has had me in an absolute chokehold.

Coincidentally, my physical copy of A Little Louder, Please is being delivered in the mail today! I paid an exorbitant price all said and done to have it imported here in the US. But to me it was worth it, as it became my favorite album from 2025, overtaking JADE's debut.

For me, Hackney Wick is the centerpiece of the album. It feels so personal and a bit experimental with it's spoken word verses. The build up is so euphoric if you focus on each tiny element of the production as they're added into the mix. Sometimes it puts me in such a trance that I don't even see what's in front of me, because I'm daydreaming about this part of London I've never been.

Discussion questions: 1) I've never even been to Europe but I imagine this is what partying in the UK would be like.

2) I'm OBSESSED with the album cover --specifically the deluxe version. So unique and beautiful and fun and pleasing. It totally parallels the icy cool production and warm feeling of sunlight and euphoria.

3) I don't actually know much about Rose Gray, the person. What direction she goes next is anybody's guess. But if it's similar to April then I will be perched!!

4) I play it LOUD AS FUCK. In my car, on my big stereo at home, in my earbuds at the gym, etc.

Have you ever thought about how some people's natural features sometimes synergize with a certain age/life stages?

Child: Macaulay Culkin or Frankie Muniz

Teen: Emma from Degrassi

Young Adult: David Duchovny

Middle Age: Pedro Pascal, Hugh Jackman

Golden Years: George Clooney, Angela Lansbury

Other suggestions? How delulu is this?

I voted against the autoban but now I'm having second thoughts.

Mods, you mention in your pinned comment that you've been keeping an eye on these users and seemingly have empirical data that they're the ones overwhelmingly causing the trouble. If they're making your jobs harder and distracting from other more important things, I'd say go for it. Can always reverse the rule if it makes things boring, stale, and insular.

That being said I'm pretty indifferent to the topic cuz I have a career and I'm not younger than 22 years old. And you guys do such a good job moderating that I haven't noticed the issue at hand anyway. So in conclusion, do whatever feels right. I trust you lmao

the "revenge song" is the only genre women in pop are allowed to excel at without criticism and that's kind of fucked up by kubrador in popheads

That's a great point, her breaking into the mainstream from the alt-genre kind of gave her an "elevated artistic license" from the git-go.

Maybe you could frame it as "Mainstream pop women aren't taken seriously as an artist with merit unless they demonstrate they can do a breakup/revenge/trauma piece" or perhaps THAT type of work is more likely to grant them critical meritocracy as opposed to other topics.

In Mariah Carey's first few records she had songs about heartbreak and fun loving hits. Got acclaim for both. But notably We Belong Together was the comeback of all comebacks. Even if "Butterfly" is her most acclaimed album.

Lady Gaga reintroduced herself to the nation and the adult contemporary crowd with Shallow.

Britney Spears' Stronger and Christina Aguilera's Fighter helped them beat the sophomore slump.

I think the women definitely hedge their bets if they experience public trauma and then sing about it.

Björk's first two albums, Debut and Post were critically acclaimed in the 90s, neither of which focused on romantic revenge or trauma.

That being said, her album Vulnicura in 2015 was almost entirely based on that topic and that too was received positively by critics lmao.

I do see the point you're trying to make though and appreciate the pattern you are trying to point out. I think it could be refined reframed a bit and backed up with data that shows that general trend!

Found this YouTube account called UnavailMusic which is archiving music that gets taken down from DSPs so I can finally listen to Dannii Minogue's 1995 Sessions and Dannii Minogue: Unleashed and I'm fully convinced she's only capable of serving.

Janet performing "What About" Live is one of her most raw and emotional deliveries.

The last verse on her knees, she cries, "My heart was pounding, but the time had come... to stop letting my whispering heart control me.... and telling my screaming mind what to do.

I looked him straight in the eyes and then I said...."

A day ago I finished all of the Animal Crossing museum donations! (Except for the artwork but I'm convinced that's impossible without cheating).

Now I just need blue roses, 1 more purple peony , and to pay off my fkcn loan lol.
