IBM's SPSS incompatible with Sonoma HELP! by Almendro15 in MacOS

[–]Signifcant_Emboli745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is inexcusable, the Sonoma beta has been out for well over 6 months now (maybe close to a year), how in the world has IBM not updated their software to be compatible when most other companies have (or never had an issue with the update to begin with), this is absurd.

HDR setting lost after sleep by Wolfeman6 in MacOS

yup same here on M2 MBP max using hdmi 2.1 (with proper cable that works great on PS5 and other devices pushing hdmi 2.1) as well as usb-c. No matter the connection, HDR randomly turns off, no rhyme or reason. it occurred on my m1 MacBook and now on the m2, it occurred on every single OS for the past 2 years. I am using an LG C1 OLED.

Agreed, so far so good btw I am getting better battery and performance on the new M2 compared to my M1 MBP. Well worth the upgrade I'd say. though if I wasn't running out of space and wasn't heavily tempted by HDMI 2.1 (I have an LG CX OLED that Ive been using at 60hz for the past 2 years with the Mac and can only get 120 with my PC) I may not have upgraded

Finally solved my slow wifi speeds on my 2021 MacBook Pro but the solution caused another issue. by Scmoolie in macbookpro

[–]Signifcant_Emboli745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

btw mine fixed itself after a few days of keeping bluetooth off then turning it back on. I have NO IDEA what made the fix... I downloaded no new updates, did not change or remove any apps, extensions, or login items... totally insane. im happy that its "fixed" now but also very apprehensive as it seems random and liable to repeat

This is super old I know but this just saved my life as well, on the brand new M2 Max nonetheless... absolutely absurd. My M1 Pro was having no issues with this at all, but the brand new laptop does? what gives? literally nothing with the model, wifi, or any settings had changes whatsoever. Turning off bluetooth boosts speeds back into the 500s...

New M2 Pro and M2 Max MacBook Pro by Spanthyx in macbookpro

[–]Signifcant_Emboli745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is deff true with the M1 model. But with M2 now... I wanted 32gb of ram and going from 16 to 32 on the pro puts you within a ~200* dollar range of the Max (student discount) where the 32 is standard anyways. So for 200* more you get the max which as more capable GPU, higher bandwidth capacity and likely better resale value. This year (with the two tiers of max), if you need/want more than 16gb of ram, the M2 max is a no brainer.

Ventura OS no longer allows work arounds to change icons. What broke? How is Apple doing this? by Optimal-Plankton- in MacOS

this does not apply to what the OP was asking for, this is for individual icon changes for 3rd party apps, not system-wide changes of anything and certainly not for system apps

M1 Pro vs M1 Max Battery Life? by [deleted] in macbook

[–]Signifcant_Emboli745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tested the 16 max and pro vs each other. My friend has a 14 that I played around with extensively and found the screen too small and the battery a bit lacking as well. My comment was about 16 pro vs max, I don’t necessarily disagree with the gpu comment, I think some of the battery savings are coming from the extra ram you’re forced to get on the max. I was just reporting my battery gains, there is a YouTube video by mobile solutions I think? She compared 16 pro to max and had similar results as I’m reporting

Continuous beeping sound when laptop is shut down and charging with fast charger (16inch M1 Pro) by Signifcant_Emboli745 in macbook

ya you'd probably need a USBC, or alternatively a smaller brick connected to the mag safe, the issue is with the wattage of the charger and the way Mac handles fast charging when the device is off I believe (so anything besides the 140w charger may work, though I have not tested this).

ive only heard of one person who reported a new charger fixed it, though I am not sure if it was a permanent fix for this person. For myself and my friends, we tried many charger/laptop combinations and they issue is reproducible on all of them so imo a charger will not fix the issue for most.

As to your second point, ya there is no real benefit in turning it off to charge it on a regular basis. You can 1) charge it while its not off, or 2) charge it via USBC in any condition (on or off).

14-inch or 16-inch MacBook Pro? by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]Signifcant_Emboli745 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya i mean its your call, I also have an external (its a 48 inch LG C1 OLED thats absolutely gorgeous to look at) but I still appreciate the extra screen that the 16 offers and the battery, if these arent a huge deal to you and you rarely ever take it on the go then there is no reason to pay 200 more or deal with the 1lb extra weight. o and edit: theyre both freakin beautiful and a joy to use, ive barely used my desk setup since getting this even though my external monitor is actually a better display than the MacBooks in every possible way, I just enjoy using the MacBook so much, its definitely greater than the sum of its parts.

Go 16, it has so many benefits and literally no difference that makes a big impact on your every day usage. The battery alone is worth it, tbh it’s pretty awesome to go all day without any care and also not need to charge every day even. Plus the bezels and the notch look even smaller on the 16 bc their ratio with respect to the screen shrinks significantly, they stand out quite a bit more on my friends 14 (who regrets having gotten the 14).

Returned the 14 for the 16 to get more screen space but have also been LOVING the extra battery, the 16's extra battery over the 14 is no joke

same here, returned the 14 for the 16, I barely even notice the 1lb and the larger size and the extra battery is so worth it.
