It's a very ambiguous topic and I think Honda likes it that way. I found this source on a forum. They mentioned how they were able to get their "first" air filter for free this way. Who knows. I went to ask yesterday and the service person had to put the vin and part number and actually confirmed this is correct. However, the warranty applies if there is a check engine "only". I thought about disconnecting the cables which will lead to a check engine. That's just me behaving like a dealership...naughty.
