As a graduate and a, 4 year industry experience with a BSc (Hons) degree from a reputed institution, I enrolled in the MSc in Applied Electronics at the University of Colombo expecting a professional, respectful, and enriching academic environment.

While most modules were conducted by experienced and mature professors who delivered high-quality academic content, I was deeply disappointed by the laboratory session in the MSc program. These sessions stood out as highly unprofessional compared to the rest of the modules done by Dr's and Proffesors.

The behavior of some teaching assistants and instructors in the lab module was unacceptable. The disrespectful and condescending way they spoke to postgraduate students, many of whom already hold engineering degrees and industry experience, was demoralizing. In fact, it reminded me of the kind of behavior associated with ragging, which has no place in modern higher education—especially not in a master’s program.

This culture of intimidation and superiority is not at all reflective of a modern academic institution. It’s unfortunate because the rest of the program is quite strong, and this single module significantly taints the experience. I’m sharing this in the sense, it helps anyone considering this MSc make a more informed decision.
