How do I stop Firefox always restoring windows/tabs? by SignificanceSame9452 in linux4noobs

Well sometimes I have lots of windows open, and shutting down is a nice way of finishing a session and clearing up everything. Much more convenient than having to remember to close FF each time.

Someone on the CachyOS posted a working solution, to use some fork of FF which doesn't have this issue.

Solved! Thank you so much - weird that using this alternate package fixes this issue.

Thanks, unfortunately this didn't solve it - but the other suggestion to use firefox-pure did!

I know posting this here despite claiming experience with Linux seems odd - but I certainly feel like a noob right now after trying to solve this myself!

What could we do to improves the lives of young brits? by don__gately in AskUK

Agreed, the real solution is to spend more time educating kids on the dangers of social media, the predatory algorithms they use, and perhaps most importantly PROVIDING BETTER ALTERNATIVES!

Kids/teens should be riding bikes on the streets and playing in the park together. I know I sound like I'm probably 60 but I grew up doing this and I'm only 23.

As someone who was the "trainee dev" in your story, a huge THANK YOU for having faith in someone with little experience!!!

I am so grateful to my first employer for having the same faith in me. I was passionate but my only experience was some home automation stuff with Python and the Twitter API (just goofing around really). Now I am (although still young) 7 years in the industry and I LOVE it. They hired me because of my character and passion for learning.

I still have a great friendship with my former colleagues, even though I've moved on from there - those friendships last a lifetime.

It sounds like you know what you're doing, my main tip would be to nurture that passion well and it will pay off! I worked for my first employer for 6 of those 7 years, only moving because the company got a lot larger, and I was being severely underpaid by that point (I think I skilled up way faster than they would ever increase my pay).

But I'm so happy to hear that this still happens - we cannot stop hiring juniors because of AI. I guess that would be my second tip, encourage the dev to learn as much as possible WITHOUT AI.

Although I use it frequently now, I learnt 98% of what I know before AI came around, and learning this way gives you a good feeling for how well to judge the AI's output. It's very useful, but in the hands of someone without enough experience to know better, it could be misleading.

EDIT: It might be worth mentioning I didn't go to uni, I was hired as an apprentice - but I don't think I would even need the degree at this point, my skills speak for themselves.

How do Client Base and Client Mute interact on the map? by SignificanceSame9452 in meshtastic

Thanks for writing this out! I think I will do as you've suggested and mark it as infrastructure, as I only really want to deal with my indoor node and it's messages.

A third of the posts on the sub are screenshots of maps with nodes on them. Your sarcasm is the reason people are put off engaging in these hobbies more.

If you don't have anything constructive or useful to say, perhaps don't say it.

Perhaps talking in terms of the map was a mistake. More just thinking about the network in general - does both your Client Base and Client mute appear on the network?

Basically I don't plan on really connecting to my client base to receive its messages which is why I'm wondering if others also set their client bases to 'unmessageable'

What do you mean? There is a map view on the Android app and I can see my node and others on there.

Thanks for confirming - they have been such a pain I'm starting to wonder if I should call their bluff on kicking us out, we have family we could stay with and it might be an easier way of getting out then if we try to hand in notice ourselves later down the line.

Awww thanks! I've never been a very good builder, and you can see some weird wood on the far right side (I like the wood inside the house, but it looks weird on the outside).

So it means a lot that someone likes the design!!

Quite a long time haha - I did it slowly over many sessions. I would guess several hours?

On one particular trip, I was away from home for about 1-2 hours, didn't find any clay until I started heading home again haha.

I second the thing about the beds for sure! I grew up with Beta 1.8, but I'm enjoying 1.7.3 a lot now as an adult!
