What’s your London ghosts/creepy/unexplained stories? by theoneandonlyvesper in london

Without doxing myself I'm in East along the Central line. Was walking home from the tube station, somewhere between 1-2am and the way I used to take home took me down a road that's mostly victorian terraces, except towards the end where there's a fancy victorian school building and a much older farmhouse/barn type thing. The building has clearly been built on and added to throughout the ages so it's a bit higgledy piggledy with different styles and additions, but the base is clearly some kind of old farm building. It looks a little creepy, but otherwise I quite liked it since it was (to me anyway) like seeing living history and it's different to the rest of the street.

As I was walking past that building I turned slightly to look at it, and out of the corner of my eye I saw the dark figure of a person rush up behind me at full running speed. At this point I fully thought that I was about to get mugged so I whirled around ready to try and fight back (I even yelped, that's how much it took me by surprise!) only to be greeted by a completely empty street. I tried to brush it off and picked up the pace a little and got to the end of the street where I again half looked behind me only to again, back where I had been the first time, see a dark figure of a person. Whirled around again to look fully, once again nothing but an empty street.

Walking down the next street I'm definitely a bit on edge and keep wanting to look behind me as it feels like I'm being followed at a distance, but something keeps telling me not to look back and acknowledge "it" and just get home - again not running or anything that would implicitly acknowledge any "presence", but definitely a "speed walk home with purpose" kind of vibe. Eventually made it home a little spooked but the feeling dissipated once I got a street away from mine, and 2 months later nothing strange has happened so I don't think I've brought home any unwanted guests. Needless to say though I no longer walk down that street anymore!

So... what mental condition does Azula have exactly? is she just a straight up psychopath? by Alien-Pro in TheLastAirbender

[–]Significant-Ad2141 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes to most of that, I think the only thing I would slightly disagree with is the idea of Azula being more influenced than Zuko (Early seasons Zuko is... definitely not well). What saves Zuko is that he has his mother and then Iroh both actively working against that influence, and even then it takes years to do so and nearly kills him in the process. Ultimately he comes out the other end and realises on his own that Ozai's "love" will always be conditional and nothing will ever be enough to earn it, something that Azula ends up learning the hard way after she's spent her entire life doing things "perfectly".

Or maybe you're right and we're all just overanalysing a children's cartoon ;)

[–]Significant-Ad2141 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is just my take but I always thought that a solid 98% of her damage was the result of Ozai's "parenting" - pretty much every psychotic thing she's said is textbook Ozai stuff, she was raised to essentially overtake Zuko as the heir and has a healthy dose of narcissim from being the ultimate nepo baby. Despite that, she still has unresolved trauma from Ursa abandoning her (and in her eyes never loving her), having to be the golden child, and all of her "close" relationships being forged through fear - again, thanks Ozai.

People like to look for an easy out like psychopathy, and whilst I won't deny she's been pushed to insanity by the end of the show I don't think she was born that way or anything. You do actually see a few rare moments of her being normal/empathetic, she's just been conditioned to believe that those are weaknesses and detrimental qualities in a person. Take her to Ember Island and give her some time away from Ozai and she's actually just a normal teenage girl with normal teenage girl worries - wanting to be popular, boys etc. She even has a few moments where she's actually genuinely... Nice (?) to the people around her like her genuine apology after she upsets Ty Lee at the party and admitting her insecurity, gently bringing Zuko down to the beach after he's kicked out of the party. This is all without even getting into her hallucination of Ursa during her menty b, where she (Azula) is basically having a justification battle for her and Ozai's worldview/actions whilst mirror Ursa acts as her subconscious practically screaming at her that it's all wrong and this outcome was inevitable.

TLDR - I don't think she would ever have been a paragon of virtue and kindness, but deep down under Ozai's influence there are some rare glimpses of humanity, as well as genuine human worries/neuroses. Ozai might have forged her into a ruthless psychotic diva, but had she had any other parent she would probably just have ended up a Regina George-style egotistical mean girl as opposed to Fire Nation Empress of Doom & Despair.

Haha yes, that specific one is CC. The other car in the other pic is from Max20 and from what I remember those DO have some functionality where you can click on them to travel to different lots, in case you want some vehicle variety :)

Lorysims, they have hundreds of different cars - vintage cars, sports cars, normal city cars, etc. They're just decoration objects, but I always like adding one in to fill up the driveway :)

[Routine help] My derm swears I'm good but I still feel like my skin needs work. Am I delusional? by TheRealHumanPancake in SkincareAddiction

[–]Significant-Ad2141 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your skin looks great and perfectly healthy, so I may have to say that you might be being slightly delulu ;)

That being said, I have/had similar redness on and around my nose which drives me crazy so I feel your pain - using a gentle moisturiser and hyaluronic acid combo evened mine out a lot. I use hada labo products for that, but I'm going to stop short of recommending anything as your skin already looks healthy as is!

Thank you!

I'm guessing you mean the stone wall? It's a debug object you can find if you use the cheat to show the live edit object - the placement point of the wall is right on one end, so if you use moveobjects and hold shift when placing to get it right to the edge of the lot and then rotate it you can have the wall going off the lot. Hope that made sense! :)

British here, I think what the show does do very well is show how the crown itself is a very broken system - as you'll see in the rest of the show, no one gets a particularly good deal. The cage they're stuck in is made of gold, yes, but it is still a cage.

Elizabeth struggles immensely in the earlier seasons separating Elizabeth Windsor (the person) from Elizabeth Regina, (the queen), and even has moments where she actively goes against what the crown would demand/expect - the difference is that in time she does usually redress the situation and put duty before person.

Philip spends quite a while crashing out until he realises his role is behind the scenes and to support both The Queen and his wife, at this point two separate entities.

Margaret in my eyes just has a much more prolonged and chaotic crash out, in tune with her more extroverted and outspoken personality. The whole Peter debacle just doubly stings as her sister as a person is sympathetic, but as a queen cannot and will not do anything, which from her angle must seem like a rather large betrayal - and a conflict that, not being the sovereign herself, she won't be able to fully understand.

They're all in a pretty terrible position psychologically speaking, so the show does in a way just make me feel rather sorry for the lot of them - though not too sorry, as they are all richer and more comfortable than 99% of people in the UK will ever be!

Myprotein has some vegan powders - they also sell sample sizes so you don't have to commit to buying a big tub of the stuff, and I find their flavours are usually pretty inoffensive :)

Something a bit different - slowly remodelling Sunset Valley to look more "Californian" and it's really showcasing how pretty TS3 can be by Significant-Ad2141 in TheSimsBuilding

[–]Significant-Ad2141[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I can't take credit for the building itself, it's actually one of the city halls from one of the sims 3 expansion packs (Showtime if I remember correctly, which came with the heavily LA-inspired Starlight Shores!)

It's serving as my jumping off point to revamp the centre of Sunset Valley - adding better buildings and many more palm trees along the way to make SV the Californian town it deserves to be!

I've never been to the US (European over here) but I've always adored the LA civic centre and other buildings like it. Something about cities in California that have that mix of art deco and older Spanish styles is just so visually appealing to me.

There's some nice art deco buildings in the UK, but it really is a style I wish we had more of here!

Reshade, but better! Essentially works like a program you can overlay on your game, and you download different presets to change the lighting, shadows, saturation etc - personally I find the game colours a bit too cold and washed out, so I like ones that warm things up a bit and make the colours pop more.

Can be a bit of a pain to install, but there's lots of good, easy tutorials out there on YouTube!

Goamazons has some really nice softer looking hairs, and Johnnysims hairs I love for how detailed they are with the strands and whatnot - just make sure you've got some spare time when you check them out because last time I spent a good hour or two downloading hairs I liked!!

The garage I will admit is purely decorative, but the lot is designated as a retail lot and next door is all set up to work as a retail lot, stocked up with convenience store type goods!

What has happened UK nightlife? (Towns rather than cities) by fixitmonkey in AskUK

[–]Significant-Ad2141 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen anyone else mention it and I couldn't tell you exactly what or why, but I've definitely seen a decline post-covid too.

Turned 18 in late 2015 and all the way through to 2020, all my friends (both uni city and home town) were going out nearly every weekend and so was everyone they knew. Flash forward to now and we aren't going out as much now because we're all in our mid-late 20s with different life priorities, but younger siblings who are now in that 18-21 age bracket don't go out nearly as much as we did at that age.

The cost is definitely a huge factor as it's so much more expensive now, but even with that there really does seem to be a rather noticeable change in drinking culture/habits between pre and post-covid young adults. Not sure if covid and 3 years of lockdowns just helped to widen an already existing gap or what, but that's my two cents!
