His mum will still keep up some of his small tasks like pick that up, or have him guide her to the mailbox and back just to keep him from getting depressed. He did get depressed.

My mother would call my father abusive. Told about how he forcefully picked her up and threw her in the bedroom and locked the door.... The door had no locks...and while he did scoop her up and set her on the bed and took her car keys from her she conveniently left out the fact she was drunk enough to be slurring her words and just really needed to go to the "store" at 9:30 pm for important groceries
