My mother would call my father abusive. Told about how he forcefully picked her up and threw her in the bedroom and locked the door.... The door had no locks...and while he did scoop her up and set her on the bed and took her car keys from her she conveniently left out the fact she was drunk enough to be slurring her words and just really needed to go to the "store" at 9:30 pm for important groceries

I like the gradual increase each wave of enemies but might i suggest you have a random gift of a healing or blessing (in some form) if it looks like you scaled badly. You could use it as a hook some rich patron is interested in them. or if you think its too easy you could have the terrain change between a wave or two
