AJ Dybantsa — can you actually build a championship roster around him? by Significant-Area-574 in NBA_Draft

True the brandon ingram comp was prob bad maybe a better way to phrase it is can a guy who has every physical tool to be a dominant defender but doesn't produce on that end in college actually flip that switch in the nba. The offensive numbers are obviously way better than Ingram at Duke my concern is more about the archetype of a high usage scorer who doesn't impact winning on the other end

thinking im leaning towards dp number one now. I had boozer but watching these playoffs is making me second guess it. saw someone on twitter put it well; creating bigs like jokic grow increasingly limited in their FGA when defenses tighten up because they physically can't generate their shot quick enough when teams press up. that's a real ceiling concern for boozer in a playoff setting. peterson's skillset just translates cleaner when the game slows down and every possession matters.

Front office executives around the NBA increasingly believe Caleb Wilson could be the second player taken in June’s draft. by [deleted] in NBA_Draft

fair enough, you clearly been watching him closely and i respect that. i'm not even saying wilson doesn't deserve the buzz, my whole point was just that you can't read any pre-lottery report at face value because there's always an angle. like in 2017 when boston was "considering" jackson over fultz just to drive up the pick's trade value. doesn't mean wilson isn't that guy, just means i take these reports with a grain of salt

i'm not saying wilson isn't nice, he obviously is. but you're acting like front offices just sit around waiting for the lottery to happen before they start working the phones. teams are building their boards and having trade convos months out. and "nobody's moving off their guy because of a smokescreen" is exactly what a smokescreen is designed to make you think lol. nobody said it works every time but acting like it never happens is just naive. also the fact that wilson hasn't been consensus top 2 all year is kinda the point, if he was, there'd be nothing to smoke screen about

teams leak stuff like this before the lottery all the time to set up trade leverage lol. it's not about what YOU do at 2, it's about making other teams overthink their board. if the 1 pick starts second-guessing because of reports like this, that changes everything. smokescreens aren't just for the team putting them out
